What is a decent price for 116 gramms of scrap 9ct gold?
ive just been offered an amount and havent a clue if thats about right, ho wmuch could i get for 116 gramms of 9ct gold, it is wearble if that makes any difference-
ANSWER:
If it is 9/24 pure, the scrap value is -12 per gram for 9 karat gold. At .40 per gram x 116 grams = ,323. That's a lot of gold, if it truly weighs that much in grams!

QUESTION:
Which company currently pays the best price per gram for 9ct gold (scrap or otherwise)?
I have a 2.84g 18ct gold chain and want to find the best price before I send it off. I currently have found £10.60 per gram (£21.20 for 18carat).-
ANSWER:
Looking around £10.60 seems to be fair value, but shop around and go on to the high street and ask a few jewellers.

QUESTION:
How does a Pawnborker work out the price he/she will give for a solid gold chain?
I recently pawned a 9ct gold chain on a buy-back contract and they give me a generous price for a gold chain I thought was only worth £100 max. To my suprise I was given much more, so I am now curious about the way they value an item.-
ANSWER:
It's quite straightforward really. 9-carat gold is 37.5% gold and 62.5% mainly copper alloy with a tiny bit of zinc. As gold is currently £326.61 per Troy ounce, then one Troy ounce of 9-carat gold is worth 37.5% of £326.61.To save you working it out, that comes to £122.48. So, if your chain weighed one Troy ounce, it would have a 'melt' value of £122.48. It costs a little bit to melt the gold and refine it back, plus the pawnbroker has to turn a profit, so he would likely offer you £80 or so. If you come back for the chain, you pay the £80 plus the weekly/monthly interest charge.
If you don't go back for it then the pawnbroker sells it and reclaims his charges.
By the way, there are only 14 Troy ounces in a pound as opposed to 16 Avoirdupois ounces in a pound. This means that a troy ounce is actually heavier than the ounce you use to weigh sweets!
Unless you know the exact weight of your chain in Troy ounces, then we will never know whether you had a bargain payout or not. If the chain weighed 1.5 Troy then it was worth £183.72. It's highly unlikely that you were overpaid by a pawnbroker!
I hope this explains everything.

QUESTION:
What is the difference between 9ct gold to 18 ct gold?
I am very intreagued with knowing the difference as I have a ring that is 18ct gold with diamonds in it, and the other ring is 3 types of gold. Rose gold, White gold and 9ct gold. Is there much of a difference besides price?-
ANSWER:
ok, so, all it means is that it is different densitys. they have to mix the gold because pure gold is very ductille and malleuble. it is very soft, the higher the number, the softer. like 24 ct is 99.9% pure gold. they cant call it 100% cuz it could have like one micro spec of dirt, but its pretty much pure. it has nothing to do w/ size at all, like another previous answer says. now, a 1kt diomond has to do w/ size. its a different story though. i hope this clears things up for u!

QUESTION:
why is there such a difference in price between silver and gold?
they are both precious metals yet when you look at even scrap value 9ct which is only 37.5% gold is £8-£9 per gram yet sterling silver which is 92.5% silver is only 25p-28p per gramwhy is there such a big difference
-
ANSWER:
Each metal is priced as per its availability and cost of mining. More rare a metal more precious it will be. Take iron, available in abundance see the price and than move on to Platinum, Uranium they gets costlier simply because of low availability and enhanced cost of finding them and mining them.RainMaker

QUESTION:
What is the value of a 22 carat gold half sovereign?
I want to sell some Royal Mint jewellery (unwanted gifts) to a scrap gold/ second hand jewellery merchant but I don't know what it is worth. I have the following:
A 9ct gold chain & cross bar (with 10 small diamonds) & a 22ct half sovereign pendant from 2003 - limited edition of 5000. Also a pair of 9ct gold earrings in a cross design with a small emerald in the centre & very small diamonds. Finally a sterling silver fine chain with pendant & 3 small sapphires. Can anyone help? What is the minimum I should take? I had a look on www.royalmint.com & the jewellery on there isn't cheap, but if you are selling it on second hand what sort of price can you expect to get?-
ANSWER:
You would be well advised to take them to a reputable jewellery store or two, or a reputable pawnbroker, they also buy scrap gold and will give you a fair price.Obviously you wont get full values as they need a margin for profit. If i were you i would also consider a reputable auction house as you might get a better price there, but get a valuation first and put a reserve on at 70% of full value.
Good Luck.

-
ANSWER:
The price of gold has increased a lot in the last few years, but I agree that is too much.It is a nice looking bracelet but I think it would be overpriced even if it were a higher gold content.
I don't buy anything that is only 9 ct gold. Pure gold is 24 ct, 12 ct is one half gold and one half other metals. 9 ct is only 37.5% gold and 62.5 other metals.

QUESTION:
Really thin white gold necklace price?
Hi , im buying a white gold neckalce in Australia , 2 of them , ones going to be about 30 inches and the other ones a bit longerI wanted them white gold and really really thin ....like 1mm thick...does anyone know what i should be paying?
Is it better / cheaper to buy in 0z or Uk?
I think ill be going for around the 9ct - 18 ct mark
Thanks
-
ANSWER:
Platinum is quite expensive but the price for a 9 carat 30 inch long necklace would probably be about 00 Australian dollars and 18 carat maybe around 2500 mark. I would suggest buying in Australia as I went to UK once and jewellery is often more expensive there.

QUESTION:
9ct or 18ct white gold --- really confused?
can anyone please help me. i have been looking into wedding/engagement rings for ages and was lead to believe that 9ct was harder wearing as it was mixed with other metals. now i've been told this is a total myth and that 18ct is in fact harder wearing and doesn't yellow as quick.
what do i believe? at the end of the day is there that much difference, apart from the price?
i really appreciate any help as i really don't know what to do
thanks-
ANSWER:
9Kt is not sold in US the lowest % gold we sell is 10k.
Karat is for gold, carat is for diamonds, carrot is for rabbits24K is the purest gold 9 k is the least pure. 24k is very soft and not generally used for rings.
Many people feel that using the term "quality" in describing wholesale 18k gold jewelry is not justified. But the "karat code" or caratage, you know that this is only one of the factors that should be used in determining its market value. The word "karat" means "bean seed" has its origins in Arabic, because they were used in the measurement of gold.
It is worth noting that only 24 kt is considered to be "pure gold", because gold is a naturally soft metal, it must be alloyed or "cut" with another metal in order for 18, 14 or 10 kt gold jewelry to be made. This means when you buy wholesale 22k gold jewelry, the gold has an alloy content of about 9 percent of one or more metals. The difference is that wholesale 18 carat gold jewelry has about 6 percent more alloy content, relatively 25 percent.
In the past, wholesale 18 and 22 k gold jewelry was alloyed with silver, palladium, copper, iridium and rhodium for years. But now there is a growing new trend towards using nickel, also known as "German silver", as an alloy.

QUESTION:
Any gold experts out????
Hope someone who has expertise in gold can give me detailed info. A million thanks in advance. What is the difference between rose gold, white gold n yellow gold? What is the difference between 14k, 24k, 18k, 9ct, 10ct etc? how much are their current value? For example, how much is a exquisite 14k rose gold pendant (approx 2cm long) really worth (Quote the currency)? I see very great difference in pricing for rose gold chain on ebay for example? Why is that so? Are they much cheaper than those in retail stores? Gold filled/gold plated/gold bonded means that metal cast with a layer of gold right? Why are they so cheap? I bought one previously and the gold layer (seller claimed 'double-coated with 14k gold) wore off after one day(I perspire easily though not profusely)?-
ANSWER:
ok the price per ounce of 24k is 9.00 as of 11:55 pst 7/17/07 price changes every minute. the purity of 14k yellow gold is 41.2%. so you need to find out if the chain is solid gold filled or plated then you need to weigh the chain, 1 troy oune is 31.1g price per gram is about .51.
so 1 gram of 14k gold is about .86 if the item is solid 14k take the gram weight and multiply it by .86 this will give you the apprx. gold value.

Rose gold???
Hope someone who has expertise in gold can give me detailed info. A million thanks in advance. What is the difference between rose gold, white gold n yellow gold? ANSWER:
Rose gold has a pink hew to it. White gold looks like silver/platinum, and yellow is the well-know colour of gold. 24k has more "gold" than 14k. A ring would be made of say nickel or some other metal with gold added to it. The more karats, the more $$$, and the more delicate. Pure gold is soft, thats why they use other metals. If you want prices just go to any local jeweller and they can show you all kinds of stuff. Some people react to gold, well more like the gold reacts to you. Your skin is more acidic than the average person. This just mean you have to get your ring plated on the inside with platinum or some other metal to stop this from happening. Sweat has nothing to do with it. Just mention that to the jewellers when you go. There are a lot of people that cant where certain metals.

QUESTION:
if a ring is in a jewelers shop for £900. what is the real value ?
whats the mark up on rings and watches in a high street jewellers ? i saw a accurist watch with a 9ct gold case and strap that was origianlly £900 it was down to £450 in a closing down sale, just wondered if it was still worth it or are they still making a fat profit on that price-
ANSWER:
How long is a piece of string. Jewellers tend to have a very high mark-up on items due to supply, demand and implied value. They will probably still be making a fair profit on this item.To get a fair value perform internet research on what you would pay from other sources and second hand!

QUESTION:
3 Broken Engagement Rings?
I got engaged in April this year & my fiance proposed to me with a 9ct white gold ring.
This one snapped 6 weeks later at the bottom of the ring where the resizing was done, was inspected by a jeweler & was considered faulty.6 weeks after getting a replacement of the same ring, that snapped also.
My fiance & I had enough, got our money back & went else where to buy a new ring.
I got a new ring 11 days ago, this is an 18k white gold ring with a platinum coating... & today i noticed this one has also snapped!
=(This one is double the gold carat & cost 6 times the price as the one before & still snapped.
I never wore it to work, took it off when I showered, took it off when I cleaned etc. & was always extra careful & gentle & when it came off it went back into it's original box for safe keeping.
My mothers engagement & wedding bands are also 18k white gold, 27 years old & still perfect & she NEVER takes them off, not for anything.
So, how can 3 different rings break like that in the same spot in such a small amount of time?
What causes white gold to snap like that?
How could it snap?
Is 18ct supposed to more durable than 9ct?Anything you can tell me will be great.
Sorry, this is so long...
I'm not normally superstitious but I am getting the feeling that maybe we should wait closer to our wedding date to buy a bridal set. Our dates not for 3 years.I also think that maybe this jeweler & the one i went to before has their jewelry made by the same manufacturer.
& Sunny : No. My "daddy" can not advise me. He couldn't tell the difference between white gold or Aluminium Foil.
-
ANSWER:
I am positive that 9ct gold is more durable that 18ct as I had this discussion with my jeweller and opted for 9ct engagement ring and wedding band. I don't know what would cause it to snap. You're having bad luck though. Maybe its an omen? I'm not superstitious either but thats just weird. BTW the reason 9ct gold is more durable is because the 18ct is a softer gold. This is what I was told anyway.

QUESTION:
Which necklace and why?
Hey, so, I brought my girlfriend a necklace today for her christmas present, and, at first i thought it was pretty good. It's a 9ct white gold curb chain, with a heart pendant. When i first saw it i thought to my self, 9 ct white gold? cant be bad. so i bought it. anyways, got it home, looked at it, and, well, yeah i liked it. The chain is reaaallly nice, very fine and delicate, looked really good. But, the heart pendant itself, not so good. it looked like it was just a piece of plastic painted silver. i mean, it looked okay, but if you looked at it closely, (Which my girlfriend would) you could tell it was quite cheaply made.
So i took a look on t'internet, to see what i could find, and for the same price, (inface, slightly cheaper) i found a 9ct white gold neckalce with diamond summet or other, white gold heart pendant. I saw this in the shop too, but wasnt sure whether as to buy it cause it was cheaper. Anyways, It has a 'trace' chain, as appose to a 'curb' chain, which means nothing to me, so could someone perhaps enlighten me on which ones better? Well, anyways, i'll just give you the links to the two neckalces, and you can tell me what you think

QUESTION:
Would you consider this dodgy?
I bought a bangle (9ct) which weighed 16 grams for 5. I was happy to get it so cheap but when it arrived it smelled ever so slightly of metal and I noticed that the 375 stamped on it looked black as opposed to being gold and barely visible like they normally are. I am not very trusting because these people sell a load of jewellery for very good prices and I am thinking it must be a scam. They claim to only sell solid gold. I have recently bought another bangle (quite wide) rose gold and I am not sure whether I want to pay for it or not as it only cost me and that just seems silly that they would sell solid gold for such a low price, why would they keep selling on this site if they are losing money?? I don't trust them because I run an internet business too and I rarely if EVER will sell something below cost, I wont take the risk once let alone repeatedly. What you reckon? Could they be dodgily stamping their jewellery as 9ct?-
