Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Best Place To Sell Gold Jewelry

Old jewelry like a necklace or a ring can bring in a lot of extra cash, and learning how to sell a broken gold necklace properly will help you get the most money. Even though, many consumers do not know how to sell broken gold, it is a straightforward process that anyone can become acquainted with.

How To Sell a Gold Necklace

Knowing how to sell old gold, like a broken necklace or ring, will allow you to select the best company which will offer you the best deal. You will first need to know the market rate for gold to determine what the fair price for your gold should be. Gold is a precious metal that can fluctuate in price from one day to the next, and you will need to be aware of these changes so that you can get the best deal.

Once you have collected all of your broken gold, you will need to find out how many karats it has. Jewelry that has a 10 karat stamp will bring in the least amount of money, while those stamped with a 24 karat insignia will bring in the most. Twenty-four karat gold is considered to be the purest form of gold.

The Best Gold Buyers

A reputable company is the best type to sell your broken gold to. Many of them will offer a satisfaction guarantee to ease any of your worries. A company's reputation can be searched out online at review sites that contain customer experiences. You can also search for any complaints on the Better Business Bureau website.

There are a few places that you can sell your gold, such as a pawn shop, jewelry store or online buyer. Physical stores tend to take too much time and offer the lowest amount of money, which makes online buyers so appealing. By using an online buyer, you can get the highest quotes and have a quick turnaround time.

Broken gold can be put to better use. Knowing how to sell a broken gold necklace or ring will help you obtain the most extra cash that you can get from your unused and unwanted gold.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Best place to sell unwanted gold jewelry?
I need to sell a lot of unwanted scrap gold jewelry (earrings, watches and necklaces). What is the safest and highest paying gold refiner?
I'm looking to sell gold in my city if possible.

    • ANSWER:
You can not sell your gold directly to a refiner unless you are a jewelry or dealer and have proper licences. I am a refiner who buys from jewelers and dealers as well as the public. I do not pay the public as much as jewelers and dealers for these two reasons.

      1) When buying from the public the law states that I must hold all items for 15 days before selling/melting them. In those 15 days gold, or silver has the potential to drop ALOT! Additionally, my money gets tied up for 15 days when buying from the public. When I buy gold or silver from dealers or jewelers I can melt it that same day, thus there is no risk of losing profit from gold or silver dropping since it is melted the same day it is bought.

      2) Unless you have a large amount of gold or silver it isn't profitable for us to buy from you. We don't mind making .25 cents profit per gram if you have 1,000 grams of gold but it doesn't pay to make 25 cents profit per gram if you are selling 100 grams of gold. That is only profit from laying out 00. There are expenses and lots of them, most people don't realize it's a business and we need to make money too.

On the other hand there are plenty of places ripping people off. With gold at 3 per ounce you should take no less than a gram for 10k, a gram for 14k and a gram for 18k.

I buy from people all over America. I can buy it from you if you know the exact weight of your gold and silver. I can pay you via paypal even before you ship it out.

DO NOT USE CASH4GOLD.COM, GOLDKIT.COM, GOLDPAQ.COM OR ANY OF THOSE COMMERCIAL TYPE SITES!!!!!!! THEY ARE A HUGGGGE SCAM!!!!

Call me if you want to sell your items to my company. The number is 877-487-1386.

  2. QUESTION:
Where is the best place to sell broken gold jewelry?
I have a broken gold necklace and want to sell it. However, I have seen in many news stories that those gold buyers in the mall, and on TV, are scammers and only give you a fraction of the gold's actual worth. Who should I look to sell to? Jewelry store?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, do not go to one of the places that pay you a portion of what ever gold is selling for via the stock market. The "Cash for Gold" places will scam you for as little as 30% of what the true price of gold is that day.

Every city has one place in town that pays what ever the stock market (or very very close to what the stock market is that day) is at that day. So if you have an ounce of gold, and gold is at 1,100, they will give you 1,100. They then sell sell it to a guy who melts it down and makes it into rings, and triples the price and resales it at places like Kay Jewelers (huge scam btw).

So what you need to do is call around to each place in town that buys gold and ask them how much they pay. Usually the best one is just called "Gold and Silver" and is not a pawn shop. A pawn shop will give you about 40-60% on gold. Make some calls. And do not look on Craigslist for a private buyer, they pay about 80% of the true price--all they do is run to the gold shop and make 20% off what you just sold.

      Hope this helps.

where is the best place to sell gold jewelry? Im in chicago?

If you're selling scrap gold and jewelry... like things you don't wear anymore, then your best bet is to sell it to an refiner online. You ship off your gold and they'll send you a check very quickly. http://www.goldintomoney.com has more information. Avoid pawn shops because they skim a bit off the top, and your gold ends up in the same place anyway

If it's a rare piece or antique, then you're better off shopping it around to a few jewelry stores.

  17. QUESTION:
Where should I sell my gold jewelry?
I hear that the best places to sell gold jewelry are brokerage firms or estate jewelry houses. Where should I sell my gold to get the best price? And what are any tips for negotiating the best price when I am selling? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It all depends on what you have. If your jewelry is in nice shape and at least 14kt or 18kt gold, many estate jewelry buyers will express interest and pay a bit better.

If the jewelry is damaged, or common pieces you still see in chain stores, you might as well sell it for gold weight...and in that case watch the gold markets for a nice gold spike because gold is paid on closing price.

Also, look into some private jewelry stores. Sometimes they do consignment for a percentage and you could maximize your dollar out of that.

      Hope that helps...

Best place to sell old jewelry?
I have a lot of gold and gemstone jewelry that I no longer wear. Mostly from ex-boyfriends. Where is the best place to sell to get the most $$? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Actually, with so much competition between wholesalers and retailers on Ebay, it is not the best venue if you are looking for the most $$$ from what you have. My suggestion, contact some private jewelry stores in your area ( not the chains like Zales or Sterling ), ask about consignment. Most stores that work in consignment usually take 25%-30%. This way, you can set your price of what you want to get out of it. Suggestion though, research your items first and see what the average price of what you have is.

    Best place to sell gold?
I have several gold jewelry pieces I want to sell and am looking for the highest $. I live in the south Georgia north Florida area. I'm trying to stay out of pawn shops. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
The worst possible options are the mail-in deals and mall kiosks. They're looking to pay just a tiny fraction of the gold content.

Pawn shops would be a middle option.

Jewelry stores or coin dealers (some do a side business in jewelry, gold chains) would likely be best.

Jewelry has a huge retail markup, so do not expect to get anything like what you paid.

    • ANSWER:
haha don't bother with cash converters or the shop kiosks, unless you like getting ripped off.
I shopped around for hours online trying to find the highest bidder for my gold. Half these dodgy companies wouldn't even tell me what price i'd receive for my gold.

  35. QUESTION:
Where is the best place to sell estate jewelry and coins for the best return?
Of course we all know that gold is over 00 per ounce, but if you go to a pawn shop you are only to get half of that if you are lucky. Where would you go to get the best return for the estate? Coins and jewelry both.

    • ANSWER:
Pawn shops use your gold as collateral against money paid to you, which you must return and then you get your gold back. Jewelry shops will give you hardly anything for it. I would suggest you use reputable estate jewelry buyers. If you are in or around NY, try Fabrikant Fine Diamonds - ask them for an assessment first. If the price is agreeable to you, then you can move forward with the deal. Hope you get a good price!

  36. QUESTION:
Where's the best place to sell gold items?
Gold's about to go up in prices again. But pawn shops hardly make it worth your while. Anyone out there have any tips for venues that buy gold items at reasonable prices? -I'm referring to jewelry items.
-I reside in New York City.
P.S. You can google them and find websites, but I'm hoping to find a REPUTABLE company. Thanks...

  39. QUESTION:
Best Place to Sell Gold Online?
My girlfriend has a bunch of old jewelry laying around that she wants to cash in "to one of those gold sites" as she says. My concern is that I hear that some of these cash for gold places are actually scams and try to rip people off.

Do any of you have experience with any sites in particular that we might try out? We are in California but want to ship to the place where we will get the highest dollar value for our materials which is why local pawn shops are out of the question.

After we get some guidance we will send in our materials and let you all know how it goes. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Forget it. You will lose big. Take it to three or more jewelry stores, or shops that advertise 'we buy gold and silver'. They need to make money and will pay less than 'spot market' price, but most of them are pretty fair with you. These online places are a joke.

  40. QUESTION:
I have some unwanted Gold rings. Where is the best place to sell them?
I understand there is a Global recession at the moment (credit crunch) so the price I will get will reflect this.
Can I ask if I take them to somewhere like Ramsdens jewellers (They buy and sell 2nd hand jewelry) will they just offer me pennies for them
    Thank you for your answers.

    • ANSWER:
Whatever you do, PLEASE don't use one of these rip-off websites that so generously send you a pre-paid envelope to send them your gold. Go to a few different jewellers and take the best offer.

  41. QUESTION:
Jewelry selling question..where would be the best place to sell some jewelry?
I have some jewelry to sell..some of it fine, some of it costume and some of it in between. Any suggestions on where the best place to go would be? I don't trust all those commercials for mailing your things in and then they pay you, so please don't suggest that. And I would hate to take all this jewelry to a pawn shop..that is my last resort.

Do jewelry stores buy jewelry from regular people? I would like the most value I can get out of it, as I said some it was not cheap at all. It's a mix of: gold, white gold, bronze, silver, diamonds, other stones (emerald, ruby, etc), watches, necklaces, bracelets, Avon jewelry, rings, pins, broaches.

Any real answers are appreciated, thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Around here, jewelry shops only sell, they don't buy and if they do buy, they only pay scrap value since they don't sell second hand.

You need to find a second hand shop, but they won't pay you much because they want to earn bucks selling your jewelry on to someone else.

I would try and sell in on an online auction site like ebay or rubylane or etsy. But you wont ever get more than half of what you paid for it, probably even less.

      Good luck.

  42. QUESTION:
Best place to sell jewelry to get a decent price?
I got a wedding ring with 1.5k diamond and 14k gold and a silver necklace with big cheriote stone. As partial payment for a loan I know 00 was paid or the ring on clearance and 0 was paid for the necklace I was given reciepts with them. Pawnshops are worthless I'd be lucky to get 0-0 for them. I'm not trying to get full price or anything for them but I don't want to get ripped off. What might they be worth? And where is the best place to sell them? They are on craigslist now but I don't really know what they are worth to price them properly

    • ANSWER:
You can watch the daily prices for gold and silver on websites like coingallery.com ( i don't work for them and it is free). Click on Buy/Sell Prices. You will see that gold is apx ,500 and silver . That is for pure metal and most jewelry is not pure. So you get less.

Try for 50% of the original price of the items. Then lower the price every week. Don't repost more than every 48 hours on Craigslist.

Also, is this a good time to sell gold?

I have some old Gold Jewelry to sell and I don’t know how much I should expect to get for it?
I live in Charlotte and I'm not sure of the best place to go

    • ANSWER:
Google some local Jewelry Appraisers in your area(I found quite a few just now) and go to a couple of them. Make sure you go to a few, so you know the real value and don't run into someone trying to rip you off.

Whatever you do, do NOT send your gold to "cash4gold" or any place like that. They give you pennies on the dollar, and you should be able to get much more than they'll give you.

I have had a good clear out and have found quite a few watches that are broken and would be ideal for spares or repairs and also some old costume jewellery which unfortunately I do not know much about. I have taken all the gold out and cashed that in and ebay prices aren't really what I was looking for so does anyone know what kind of shop I would take them to to get looked at? Your help would be very much appreciated, Camilla
