Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Best Way To Sell Gold Jewelry

Many people are getting cash for gold jewelry. Still some people are still wondering, aHow can I get cash for gold jewelry?a The answer to this question is actually quite simple.

Cash for Gold Jewelry

Before you can sell your jewelry, you will need to find out what types of gold you have. You will want to know if you have 10, 14, 18 or 24 karat gold. You will be able to locate the karat stamp on the posts of earrings, on the inner part of a ring and the clasp of bracelets and necklaces. These markings indicate the quality of the gold contained in the item, with 24kt gold being the highest quality.

If you jewelry contains any gemstones, you may want to consider having a jeweler remove those stones from the settings, as you normally will not be compensated for their value. Gold buyers are paying you for the gold and not the stones. By leaving the stones in place, you will actually be giving them away for free.

Read Cash for Gold Reviews

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Best way to sell gold jewelry?
I have a lot of gold jewelry, some of which is damaged but suspect that it is worth more melted down than in its current form. Where does one go to sell gold like this without being ripped off? If your advice is to use Cash4Gold, then please don't bother responding.

    • ANSWER:
You are never going to get market value for your gold. A lot of people forget that it is a business and there are expenses. About 2% of the gold immediately evaporates upon melting, market price may drop, rent, assay fees, permits, labor, taxes, etc etc. Also market prices are based on 1,000 ounces of bullion (bars, coins etc) on a trading level.

If you have one ounce of jewelry, and gold is ,000 a ounce you don't get ,000 for that jewelry. Most jewelry is 14k gold and that is only 58.5% pure gold.

      10k- 41.7% Gold
      14k- 58.5% Gold
      18k- 75% Gold
      22k- 91.7% Gold

I am a refiner and diamond buyer in Florida, and will give you the information you need to sell your items without getting ripped off.

Gold (Based on todays price of 3/oz)- 10k- gram, 14k- gram, 18k- gram.

      Silver- 925/Sterling- a ounce.

This is the absolute least you should get per gram. A lot of place buy it according to pennyweight (DWT) to convert grams to pennyweight just multiply the gram price by 1.55.

I pay around 6% more than the numbers I listed above for 100 grams of gold OR LESS, if you 100-200 grams I pay 10% more than the prices above, 200 grams or more 12% more than the prices above.

I buy from jewelers, dealers, pawn shops, and the public all over the country. If you know the approx weight and karat of the gold I will pay you PRIOR to you shipping your items using paypal. If you dont have a scale I send them to customers FREE OF CHARGE! If that sounds like something you would be interested in doing call me anytime. My number is tollfree. (877) 487-1386. Either way I hope you get a fair price no matter who you sell it too. Just Do YOUR RESEARCH!!!

A few last things. If you have any gold or silver coins or bars (bullion) you should get about 1%-2% below market value if they are pure gold (most are) since they do not need to be melted.

Also now is NOT the time to sell anything but gold, silver or platinum. If you have diamonds (larger than a 1/2ct), or a high end watch, KEEP THEM IT!! Wait until the economy rebounds a little. You would get half of what you would of got 6 months ago for them!!

      Hope this helped.

  2. QUESTION:
What's the best way to sell your gold plated jewelry with swarovski crystals?
I have a few really nice pieces of gold plated jewelry, mainly necklaces with pendants and some earrings/bracelets.. A couple have a beautiful heart shaped swarovski crystal. I am looking to sell it and not sure where to advertise/ how to let others know about the product. The pieces are beautiful, won't tarnish and look expensive. I am willing to sell them for a very reasonable price, any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
      ebay or cash for gold

  3. QUESTION:
what is the best way to sell gold?
I have 14 karat gold jewelry to sell.

    • ANSWER:
f you check around, you will probably find that your local coin shop pays better than any of the places you have access to.. A pawn shop will pay perhaps 50% of the value of the gold (They are in business to loan you money, and what you are pawning is collateral for the loan. If you are selling,a pawn shop is not the place to do it.). Jewelers generally pay a little better, but most coin shops will pay 80 - 90% of the value of the gold. Selling by mail is always a terrible idea. Unless you have several ounces of gold, they pay the least of all, plus since you are not dealing in person, you don't have the option of asking questions.

Just remember that 14K gold is 14/24 or 58.3% pure gold.

  4. QUESTION:
What's the best way to sell gold and know we're not getting ripped off?
My grandma called my mom today and told her she has a bunch of old gold jewelry she doesn't want anymore and wants us to sell it to use for our bills and such. How do we know if were getting a good deal or not when selling this gold? Does it go by ounce for jewelry as well?

    • ANSWER:
You should be able to get 70% of its value from a reputable jeweler. The value is easy:

Gold per ounce = ,400. There are 31 grams per ounce (Troy), so...
      Gold per gram = .

      24 karat = 100% gold.
      14 karat = 58% gold.
      18 karat = 75% gold.

Example: You bring in a 14karat gold necklace that weighs 11 grams. How much is it "worth" and how much should you get?

      Worth: 11 grams x gram x 58% = 7

      Get: 7 x 70% = 1

What is the best way to get top dollar when selling antique jewelry (gold, diamond, silver, items)?
Tips for selling jewelry from an estate.

    • ANSWER:
There are auction houses that deal mainly with deceased estates. Firstly, you need to have the jewellery valued so as you can present documentation to the auctioneer. A Little money spent on valuation now can bring you big dollars or not. If you go to a normal jeweller, make sure that you stay with the goods, some shonky jewellers replace real stones with paste. Good selling - Kay!

  8. QUESTION:
How can I get the best yeild from selling old gold jewelry?
I have several pieces of mostly 14K gold that was given to me by a family member (for the purpose of selling). What is the best way to go about getting actual (or close to) value for these?

    • ANSWER:
You need to find out what the value of the pieces are from an appraiser if you want to keep the jewelry intact. If you want to separate the gold from the other metals that make up the jewelry, then you need to do some chemistry work. Gold will dissolve in either Aquia Regia, which is a combination of acids, from which the gold can be extracted in it's pure form. Gold can also be changed into Gold Chloride by dissolving it in a solution of water, calcium chloride, and some acid, such as sulfuric acid. The gold can then be selectively precipitated out of solution. It all depends on how you want to sell the jewelry, as is, for what somebody would pay for it, or as separate metal for the market value of the gold itself.

      1. It depends on the type of jewelry you are selling. Antique pieces you're better off selling to jewelers and antique dealers. Scrap gold (stuff that's broken or you don't want) you're better off selling to a pawn shop or refiner.

Best way to sell used jewelry?
I have two high quality pieces of jewelry I need to sell- one a platinum ring (recently purchased for 00) and a white gold heart pendant with stones (not sure what kind- or the amount it was purchased for)

  14. QUESTION:
What is the best way to sell nice jewelry as I would rather have the cash?
It is rings with gold and diamonds, necklaces, gold chains, etc. I am in no hurry and would like to get what I paid for it if possible.

    • ANSWER:
It is highly unlikely that you would ever get back what you paid for jewellery - new jewellery will always sell for more than second hand jewellery, just like every other thing out there. The exception will be extremely high quality/rare gems and sometimes being made by a famous jewellery house will increase the reselling price.

You may be best to find an "estate jeweller". These jewellers deal in second hand and vintage jewellery. They will be able to give you a price as to what they would take it for and you can decide if you want to sell it or not. Chains etc., that have no gems are often just sold for the gold value - so it will be weighed and a price per gram applied.

Otherwise, try and sell it privately, you could place an advertisement in your local paper or trading/selling journal perhaps?

  15. QUESTION:
    Where/How to Sell Gold Jewellery?
What is the best way to sell gold jewelery in India or in the US without taking a big discount ? I know that taking them to a shop would mean that you will have to sell it a very low price, but I need a good rate since I need to take care of some loans. It would be great if some one has any clever ideas to tackle this. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
I would strongly suggest checking out the Silver and Gold Exchange before selling gold or silver to ANYONE. I did a great deal of research, online and offline, and learned a lot about this business. I checked pawn shops, jewelers, "gold parties", hotel "buying events as well as the online buyers, including the "as seen on tv" guys. I found that the Silver and Gold Exchange paid more than anyone else I could find. I liked the fact that they post the prices they pay per gram (beware of the places that quote in pennyweight/DWT) on a live price chart at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com I also checked out their Better Business Bureau report and found they have never had a single complaint as opposed to HUNDREDS of complaints some other companies have! I recommend them 100%

  16. QUESTION:
How is the best way to sell used gold?
    and silver jewelry?

    • ANSWER:
There are two ways to dispose of gold and silver jewelry.

The first way is to sell them for the precious metal content. Gold is currently flirting with ,400 per troy ounce, and and silver is fluctuating at about / per troy ounce. A 14 karat piece of gold jewelry is 58.5% gold by weight. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver by weight. If you are selling your jewelry for its metal content, you take it to a gold or bullion dealer or coin exchange shop. They will take the jewelry and pay you cash for it. Ultimately it will be melted down for the value of the metal.

Remember that the price you get will be less than the mathematical price of the precious metal content, in order to cover the cost of assaying, the cost to the melter, etc. If you are going to sell your jewelry only for its metal weight, don't take it to a jeweler, as you will tend to get a worse price.

The second way to sell jewelry is for its artistic value. Fine pieces of jewelry may have a value that is much greater than the cost of the precious metal alone. In this case, you would want to sell NOT to a gold and silver dealer (who will only pay you for the metal content) but to a *jeweler* who will buy the piece with the intent of reselling it as jewelry.

The best plan of action is to take the jewelry to a jeweler or pawn shop first, and ask them to appraise it independently. Once you have the appraisal value of the jewelry, you will know how to proceed, and who to sell it to: a precious metals dealer, or a jeweler. Be sure to shop around for the best price!

P.S. A "troy ounce" (used in weighing precious metals) is equal to 1.0971 regular (avoirdupois) ounces.

I have some jewelry and would like to sell it. I went to a high dollar jewelry store and had it weighed and the girl gave me the price.
    I had
    2 14 kt rings ( each)
1 platinum setting w/Cz stone and real diamonds on the sides (0)

  21. QUESTION:
What would be the best way to determine type of gold and diamond specs on a ring?
we want to sell on Ebay? Would Jewelry stores do it for a free or a small fee? Or is there somewhere else to go?

It's not a superexpensive ring but if one is going to sell it on ebay specs would be best.

Oh, and pawnshops suck for specs, so don't say that please.

    • ANSWER:
Best thing is to go to a jewelry store to get the ring appraised. They will probably charge you a little to get it appraised, but it is the best way to do it. That way you have a paper to back up what you are selling. Always good to have the paperwork.

  22. QUESTION:
what is the best way to ship jewelry?
i have a gold herringbone necklace i sold and i need to ship it but don't know how to safely.

    • ANSWER:
I have shipped jewelry in the past. Some very expensive pieces. Number one take it to a reputable shipping Co. USPS, FED EX, or any number of other shippers. Be sure to get documentation and especially photos of the shipment to be delivered. It is also better if you take the photos at the time of the shipment to document the actual shipment from that facility. If the shipping Co. is on the level they shouldn't have a problem with this. Always get a tracking number. This allows you to trace your shipment and verify any loss. ALWAYS take out delivery insurance for the value of the package just in case anything should go wrong. If you let them package it, that is even better still as you can verify that. It's not hard, just deal with the right people!!!! As the saying goes, you get what you pay for!

  23. QUESTION:
What's the best way to sell silver items and jewellery?
I have inherited various things I don't want and wonder what is the best way to sell them. I'm in Sydney. I have two silver tea-sets (cream, sugar, tea-pot, coffee-pot), lots of assorted silver cutlery but some damaged and no complete sets, silver napkin rings, silver cups and goblets, silver cocktail shakers and ashtray, a gold cigarette case (bit squashed), a gold jewel-encrusted ladies' pocket watch, a silver and diamond cross pendant, two gold and gem brooches. I have tried the auction houses for the jewellery but they are not big/valuable enough for them and can't find anything useful on ebay. Any advice on dealers or websites of use would be much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
Ebay ends up costing you on both ends..to post the item..then a percentage after it sells..go to craigslist.org..sign up for a free account..then select your country..then your state or commonwealth..and post it there ALL TOTALLY FREE!!

  24. QUESTION:
How do I determine at what weight my gold jewelry would be paid at?
I know the weight. I have a very heavy gold chain and bracelet- together they weigh 2.5 oz, or 72 grams.
I know that currently gold is at about 1K per ounce, but obviously, I am not getting ,500?
They are estate pieces that would currently sell for much more than that in a jewelry store, if you could even find anything that heavy.

After some research on-line I see that unbroken or nice items like mine are often purchased by places like estate.com BUT..

What I want to know is how they determine the actual weight at which they pay since it is 14K gold not pure 24 KT gold. ehow.com has an article that just says to weigh it yourself, which I did as I have a digital scale, but they don't explain how to know you aren't getting ripped off or how they buyer determines how much gold is in your 2.5 ounces of 14KT gold. They say 14KT gold is something like 58% pure gold and the rest some sort of alloy for strength. So, do they take 42% off the weight to determine ounces they will pay at, or the actual weight of the gold item/ chains.

What would my 2.5 ounces of gold be worth if sold and best way to sell?

    • ANSWER:
You know, that price in the newspaper is for gold futures.
That's the price one pays for taking delivery on a quantity like maybe 100 ounces (I'm sure some futures trader could give you exact figures) but anyway, nobody, not even jewelers can buy fresh gold for spot prices.

Your jewelry isn't "fresh". It's been alloyed and God only knows how many times.

Your 17 grams equals 10.93 dwt (pennyweights).
Gold is measured by professionals by the Troy ounce.
      14k gold is 58.3% gold
So you have 6.37 dwt of fine (24k) gold after refining.

There are 20 dwt's in an ounce so your gold, at today's spot price is worth
      3.12

It's doubtful anyone will offer you that much for your gold.
You'd do well to get 75% of spot (2.34)

Of course if your piece is nice you might find a jeweler willing to take it on consignment and sell it for you. That often takes quite a long time though...

  30. QUESTION:
How would I go about selling my jewelry?
I know it seems simple enough, but I feel like I'm going to get ripped off no matter what I do. I have a white gold chain and pendant with diamonds in it which I paid 00 for. Basically what I'm looking for is some tips/advice on the best way to go about selling it, and getting fair value in return. There's nothing wrong with it, I just feel like I'm a little too old to be wearing a chain anymore.

    • ANSWER:
For something that valuable I would go see a jeweler. You could use ebay or trademe, but I would suggest that you go and get it valued with a certificate to authenticate its value. It may cost you a little but would more likely insure you get what its worth. At the end of the day, be prepared to not get what you paid for it.

  31. QUESTION:
    Selling Handcrafted jewelry?
I have been making handmade silver, gold, beaded jewelry for 3 months now. I am ready to start selling my merchandise.

What is the best way to go about selling one of a kind pieces? All pieces reflect what I think of at the time of creation. No piece will be the same. Are there benefits to selling one of a kind? Or disadvantages?

I just need advice on selling pieces that will only be created once.

Not interested in selling on Ebay or Etsy! Would like my own internet boutique or other suggested ways of selling.

    • ANSWER:
This is a pretty difficult area to break into. I would suggest some grass roots marketing on this one. Go to Fairs and flea markets and see what people like and what is selling good.

If you would like to sell over the internet, i would suggest your own website. But as the other person stated , that is going to take some creative marketing. Start with partners and there websites, think about advertising and there fees. The cost of building the site and all that jazz.

My suggestion would be to stay local on this one.

  32. QUESTION:
    Gold Processing and Selling?
    Question 1:

Please could someone give me a "comprehensive but simple to understand" way of processing gold dust into bars(at home or at a goldsmith). I heard to sell the gold, it must be certified... is this true and who certifies it?

    Question 2:
I need information on how to sell the gold bar after I have done everything right from the first question at close to MARKET PRICE as possible. For example: Do I sell the bar to jewelry stores or are there gold dealers that buy the gold close to MARKET PRICE? Also where is the best country to easily sell your gold. I heard Dubai, how true is that...

Please need clear, easy to understand answers. Thanks a million everyone.

    • ANSWER:
Put the gold dust into a metal pot and heat (according to melting point of gold which you can find on internet). Make a mold in the shape of a rough bar (doesn't really matter). You should be able to get some release medium to line the mold. You need to take the bar/s to an assayer to be assayed as to it's purity.
I think they are some jewellers who are authorised to do this. (Hatton Garden in UK) or someone like Johnson Matthey.
It might be best to identify your buyers first so they can tell you in what weight or form they would prefer to buy.

The value of gold per square ounce in 1984 was approx 0. Today, it pushes 00. I purchase a .54 carot diamond - wholesale - in 1984 for 4. According to this local jeweler...the 'gems' were inconsequential to the value of the turn in. Sounds like I should remove the diamonds?

Please give me your best suggestion.
I need the cash to get a down payment on a home.

    Thanks for your time!

PS - The lady in the jewelry store claimed that all I had was 10k gold. That is a downright L*I*E because I can't wear 10k; all was 14'k.
Another reason why I flew out of there!
I'm going to hold on for a while and will probably have the items professionally appraised. Then I will decide what to do from there.

    • ANSWER:
It is the economy everyone is selling off there excess gold at higher prices (so they think) You have to have your gold rubbed on a touch stone and compaired to the standards to find out what carrot it actually is. Then weighed on a properly calibrated scales. If you can stand to keep that jewelry in lock up for a few more years do so. Diamonds and gold diamonds and platinium even better. Beware of the places that advertize you may do better after you find out exactly what carrot gold you have and the total gold weight and how many carrots of stones.

  34. QUESTION:
What is the best way to go about selling a piece of not antique but not new either jewellery?
On my 18th birthday my grandmother bought me a ring. It's yellow gold with one oval ruby and two small diamonds. This is ten years ago, as you can tell from the description this is by no means an exclusive or antique piece. It cost about 500 pounds back then and I don't expect to get a great deal for it. However it's a difficult thing for me to do and I'm only looking to sell it as my boyfriends inability to repay money to me - we live together so I don't consider myself to have a choice, if he fails to pay his bills I have to - leaves me feeling with no other option. So if I must do it, what is the best way to go about it?

    • ANSWER:
Go to a jewellery shop, an independent small one where they value jewellery and also buy, get a few estimates. Either that or eBay but you might not get the full value for it. Oh and btw dump your bf!!!

  36. QUESTION:
What's the best way to have an Estate sale?
I held one today and some people think things should almost be free or given away, how do I avoid that? I have lots of jewelry (Silver, semi-precious stones, fine jwlry) and it's priced but I tell everyone is 50% off the price.

Some think it is not cheap enough, ((example, beautiful heart silver pendant, very fine with cubic zirconia, very good size, medium to big) it looks like real white gold, very high quality, sold it for $ 10.00 and people still think it's too much,
all these items are brand new,

What kind of techniques can I use in so I don't give my stuff away, as I do need the money.
    Thanks!!

    • ANSWER:
Disguise it as a mere rummage sale; people will pay more than it's worth, often as not,or at least a fair price. They certainly won't expect you to give it away. The upscale items, sell to an antique dealer.

  37. QUESTION:
    One of a kind jewelry?
I have been making handmade silver, gold, beaded jewelry for 3 months now. I am ready to start selling my merchandise.

What is the best way to go about selling one of a kind pieces? All pieces reflect what I think of at the time of creation. No piece will be the same. Are there benefits to selling one of a kind? Or disadvantages?

I just need advice on selling pieces that will only be created once.

Not interested in selling on Ebay or Etsy! Would like my own internet boutique or other suggested ways of selling.

    • ANSWER:
One of a kind pieces always have more value, however the problem is that you will not be making a lot more for custom jewelry unless you sell it directly (in person or on the Internet).

The disadvantage is that you will be spending a lot of time and effort on creating a product that you could mass produce at a lower cost and less time. If you create many of the same kind you can save on materials and tools, thus reducing costs and increasing profits.

One of kind products have added value because they are unique, however there's always the question why the buyer should pay extra if they don't have any guarantees that they are indeed unique. I doubt it's worth the extra effort at first.

Perhaps you should manufacture a few lines first, and then create some unique pieces to showcase your skills. Attract the buyers with the unique products and let them choose their price level.

    • ANSWER:
There are definitely advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that the customer knows that they are getting something special, it adds value to the piece. Knowing that they are the only one to have something like that is a big plus for people. However, you will probably run into people who will ask if you can duplicate something they see. So, just be prepared to field those questions and possibly lose a sale. You may want to offer the ability to do custom orders as well.

Which ever way you go about selling your pieces, the biggest thing is just to promote promote promote! Set up a blog, join social networking groups for crafters, promote off line as well. Good luck!!

  40. QUESTION:
Best way to get a good price on a ring?
Hello-I need some cash and want to sell my engagement ring from my first marriage. It's a small but nice diamond in a gold setting. I am not looking for a huge payday, but how can I make sure I don't get ripped off? There is a place nearby that buys jewelry and I have heard they are good, but do I trust their appraisal? Do I ask a jeweler for one (and how much does that cost?)? I really know nothing about jewelry to even guess if this is like a half carat or what. Any input would be awesome.

    • ANSWER:
Take it to a jeweler-a top-notch trusted jeweler and ask them. They may charge, but you would KNOW.
You would probably get your best price from the paper or craigslist, since anybody else is going to want his cut.

  41. QUESTION:
Best way to convert 0 Amazon to 0 cash?
I was thinking of buying jewellery but I've noticed that a gold chain I purchased for 0 was fetching 0 from a jeweller when I went to sell it, so I'm afraid a product of 0 might fetch much lesser when I go to sell it. So what should I consider buying from Amazon which would fetch me the same money when I sell it? Need to do this ASAP.
@rtfm : I've already applied the gift card to my account so I MUST buy something now

    • ANSWER:
Short form: You BUY at retail, and SELL at wholesale. No matter how you buy or sell, you WILL sell for less than you buy.

Perhaps you could buy a gift cards and sell it to someone. You will STILL take a loss, but it may be smaller.

  42. QUESTION:
Should I run away or should I continue trying and have hope?
Hello Everyone.I'd like to share my story with u coz I'm really tired of thinking and of misery.I'm a 21 year old girl who loves a guy who doesn't love me.He’s supposed to be my friend. He knows things about me that no one else knows. He’s funny, hansome, gentle, everything I could ever want. At the begining, I began to have feelings for him but I knew that he was already in love with another girl so I decided to keep my feelings for me. I kept it a secret and I started to be friends with his girlfriend and treat him like a brother. I decided to protect him and care for him as a sister. But, his girl turned out to be a bad one, and we both doubted her and it was me who opened his eyes. We, then, decided that we'd be forever brother and sister and that we'll always be there for each other. But,inside me, my feelings for him grew bigger and bigger, but I never wanted to tell him coz i didn't want to lose him as I know he doesn’t have feelings for me.He became an essential part in my life. Oneday, he told me that he feels that I'm keeping a secret from him.I told him no, no and no many times but he never believed me.So,I thought he felt that he's not just a brother to me and that I've feelings for him so, I confessed my love to him and I told him that I can't lose you for that.He promised me that he'd forget about that and that we r forever brother and sister and that I'll never lose him.By time, I asked him what I represent to him and he answered me that I'm his best friend and even more and I asked him whether he'd feelings for me or not and he answered that yes, he has a small tiny feeling for me but he does not want a relationship now. I had hope that he might fall in love with me.I did all what I can to show him how much I care about him, how much I respect him and how much I love him in an indirect way. I tried to do the things he likes. Then , oneday he told me before going to the army to promise him that if I saw photos of him kissing others or if he put himself in a relationship with a girl that I won't blame him or lose him.I broke down,at once, and then he told me that he’ll close this subject the next day.The next day he sent me an e-mail telling me that he adores me and that he’d very much like to be with me but for the moment he can't coz he was leaving to another country far away from mine and that if I was next to him he'd have definitely been with me. He told me he'd be happy if I wait for him but that I must think very well before taking this decision of waiting and that from this moment on, I'm his sister and not more.I reacted calmly to this e-mail and we continued chatting through msn after he's left for the new country and everything was fine and then I told him that I deserve that he waits for me.I told him kiss whoever u want do whatever u want but don't put urself in a serious relationship till we meet again and he told me that he'd do his best to make his heart wait for me.Since then we've been talking like very good friends but of course for me he isn’t just a good friend.I think of him every single moment,I think of what I can do to impress him.I even got him a very expensive gift that he wanted,I sold some of my gold jewellery to have the money to buy it for him and ship it for him through FedEx.I'm doing the best I can but, unfortunately, there is no progress at all. It's always me who is seeking to talk with him,it's always me who need him,if I don't tell him to get online,he won't get online.I even told him that sometimes i feel that I'm heavy on him but he told me no not at all and that he's sorry to give me this impression. But,I know he doesn't care like I do,there r things u feel but u can't explain.Last time he told me he gotta go sleep &I told him to wait an extra 10 minutes and he told me that’s ok but it makes him nervous. So,I told him that I don't want him to be nervous so goodnight,he continued and told me that he feels that he is not being himself with me because of the expensive gift I bought him and that he feels he owes me something and that he wants to return it to me as he feels guilty that I spent all this money and that he feels like that he can't refuse a thing to me coz of this gift.He told me this, although he does not know that I sold some of my gold to buy it to him and I’ve never mentioned anything that makes him feel guilty about it.I told him that I sent him this gift coz I wanted him to be happy & coz I appreciate him but if that gift gonna make him sad,I told him to break it.I'm really sick of it,I feel he talks with me just coz he's obliged not coz he likes talking with me, last time,I asked him a question and he told me why do i ask this question and that he doesn't like it.I feel that things r gettin' worse and I don't know what else can i do to make him happy from me.Sometimes I think I should run a
other times I say no,I should have hope and continue.I'm madly in love with him I can serve him with my eyes.I know I'm not beautiful like the girls he knows and that he is very beautiful but I can offer him everything he wants.I love him a true big love. I’m really confused not knowing what to do and I’m really sick of the fact that despite all what I do to make him happy from me and like me, there isn’t any progress. What do you guys think?

  44. QUESTION:
Should i pawn jewelry he gave me?
recently i broke it off with this guy i was seeing. He really hurt me. I plan on selling these diamond encrusted earrings and a gold anklet. I could use the money for books cus i go back in the fall, technically its mine. My Best Friend told me not too she says its not right. I dont see why not, theres no way i'm going back to him. should i pawn it anyways so i can buy a book for school?

    • ANSWER:
Take the items to a jewelry store to see if they're really diamonds and real gold. It could be that they're fake and you wouldn't get enough to buy a book. Or take them to the pawn shop to see what you could get for them. Since they were a gift they are yours, you can do with them what you want.

  45. QUESTION:
are there any females (or males) that really hate jewellry like me?
so far, im the only girl i know that can't stand all of that stupid gold and silver jewelry that is sold for 100's and 1000's of dollars in jewellry shops, i can't stand it, i think it looks un attractive and doesn't go with anything, maybe im just a loser who wants to have a rant but is there any other people out there that feel the same way as me? and god dammit NO!!!! diamonds ARE NOT a girls best friend! 46. QUESTION:
This diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore...so how do I get rid of it?
I have a wedding ring that means nothing to me anymore. It makes me feel bad to even see it so I am willing to sell it, but want to get as much as possible for it, and have no idea how to do it.

The center stone is a round cut "hearts and arrows", and is described as "near flawless" and is .74 Ct in size. There are two round cut side stones described as "flawless," each .25 Ct in size. There are also six channel set stones on either side, all smaller. It is set in 14K white gold.

I have the official appraisal papers, but they are put away for safekeeping and aren't right at hand this minute. I do know, however, that the clarity rating was high, and that the total value when it was purchased 4 1/2 years ago was just under 00.

I basically want to know what I should expect to hear from a jeweler when I approach them about buying the ring. Is that the best way to do it? I have never sold my jewelry before. Any recommendations on what to say? I know to bring the papers with, and I thought the best place to start would be with the jeweler it was purchased from.

    Thanks for the expertise.
You call me pathetic for divorcing an alcoholic, physically abusive cheater? Go ahead. I have lived through worse. This ring is going to help me move on - emotionally and financially. Don't be so quick to judge.

    • ANSWER:
Sad to say, don't plan on doing much more than filling your gas tank when you sell it!
Retail market jewelry is sold at triple keystone at the minimum...which means, the jewelry store pays 00 for a ring-then sells it for 00.
Some 'chains' across the nation mark them up for quad keystone or higher- so a 00 cost ring would sell for 00.00.
How do you think they can run huge 'sales' for '50% off retail price and 25% off the sale price...blah blah blah'...it's because the markup is so high.
Doesn't matter how highly recommended the jewelry store is...this is why they are in business!
Now, when they BUY 'used' or 'estate' jewelry-they are not going to pay more than scrap value for the ring (gold, platinum, etc.) because they have to plan on melting it down if they can't sell it 'complete'.
So, how much gold is in your ring? Sitting down? About , even at today's prices! And the diamonds? GOING RATE, when I got out of the business, for a 'used' quarter carat diamond IN THE RING SETTING was .00. And gold was selling for over 0 at the time.
So, without seeing it and checking the diamond with a scope, looking for cracks, breaks, (and YES, diamonds can chip just like glass!) I would guess the best you could hope for might be a couple hundred dollars...even at the store you bought it from. THEY probably paid like I said, 00 or even less for it...and now that it is USED, it is worth a quarter of what they paid for it at the most!

selling a hand made diamond/topaz ring in the uk?
I have a ring which I had specially made by a jewellery designer in pennsylvania USA. It was a gift for a girl friend but we have since split up and i got the ring back. It 18c gold with a silver band as well, 2 small diamonds either side of a topaz, its very unusual, and when she wore it, quite often got comments on it. I payed 00 for it. I realise i wont get what i payed back for it, but i was just wondering if anyone knows the best way to sell this in the UK, anyone know of a jeweller who is willing to do commission sales? it would have to be someone who deals in this kind of jewellery though. I dont want to put it on ebay because it would just get lost amongst all the junk that seems to be on there. Ive added some links to pictures of the actual ring.

  49. QUESTION:
Do you need to be a genius to get into Duham University?
PLEASE IGNORE ANY SPELLING ERRORS! MY COMPUER KEEPS CHANGING MY SPELLING FOR NO REASON

Hi! I am an American 10th grader and Durham University seems to be my dream college. I would love to go there to be am archaeologist. Currently, I think have a 3.4 GPA which is a 90% if I did the calculations right. I'm in girl scouts and have my bronze and silver award and am getting my gold award, in band and choir, I'm the sound effects person for stage crew, I am in a club that helps freshmen get used to the high school and i will have at least 3 ap classes by 12 grade with at least 4s on the tests. I sm also in a science research class in which we read official research articles, get a mentor, design and conduct an experiment, write a research paper and compeat in county, state and Nationwide competitions in 12 grade. I play soccer outside of school and make and sell my own jewelry at a local craft store. I will be getting a job at either a supermarket or restaurant this summer and I hope to have my pilots licence by 12 grade if I have time in my schedule. I also hope to make national honor society.

Would all this be enough to make me stand out and be accepted or is the only way to get in to be super smart. on the web site it says I need a 3.3 GPA (like I said I have a 3.4, it should be higher when I get my spanish grade up, currently a 74. I will be taking intro to german next year if it counts as a forigen language credit instead of Spanish) but I am not convinced.

If I could get exepted I would love to live inthe University college (the castle) I have looked at all of them and it is the one I like best.

    Thank you!!!!
I mean Durham university, uk. As for being interested in archaeology I am OBSESIVE. I will be going on an archaeology dig with a local college this summer, I applied to Earthwatch to go to England to go on a dig, my topic in my science research class is archaeology and I am acumulating a small library of archaeology and history books.

    • ANSWER:
You don't need to be a "genius", you said yourself you need a 3.3 GPA and you already have a 3.4. Universities in the UK care just as much about your interest and previous experience or research into the subject. They'll almost certainly expect you to be studying history, and in your personal statement when you apply you'll need to show that you've researched archaeology and can explain why you want to study it. The personal statement part of applying to university is incredibly important and while you have plenty of things you can put on there, you need to think more specifically to the subject you want rather than saying you have a pilot license, which doesn't really help them at all.

It is incredibly competitive to get into university in the UK at all right now, because they're just about to increase fees, and because there are less jobs so a lot of adults are returning to university. So it will be a little harder than previous years, and you should be aware of this before you apply and perhaps get disappointed.

  50. QUESTION:
Value and rarity of 1926 St. Gaudens Double Eagle gold coin?
My wife's grandfather gave us a golden coin as a wedding gift a couple of years back. The wedding was in Poland and the story is that the grandfather bought the coin years ago under communism through the black market as an investment. I know nothing about coins but through a little research on the web, think I may have something of significant value. From what I can tell, it is a 1926 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle. Please excuse my ignorance but I will try my best to describe it. It is a very shiney golden and heavy. It has no blemishes or tarnishes that I can see. If you were to look at it with a very scrupulous eye, I guess it has some minor scratches on the flat surfaces but I don't know if they would be considered scratches or not, but its definitely in great to exceptional condition. I'm just wondering the rarity and value of this coin. I wouldn't consider selling it, and would love to have a family heirloom on my hands. Additionally, how should I store it? I just have it wrapped in a paper towel right now, inside a jewellery box. Any information would be appreciated.

As an additional aside, it was very entertaining to bring it back from Poland. I left Poland immediately after the wedding, as my wife stayed an additional 2 weeks. I kept the coin in my wallet, and really set the metal detector off in the Warsaw airport. I took my wallet out, and sent it through the x-ray machine and saw on the screen, it lit up like a giant glowing ball. They let me through security to the gate. Then about 15 mins. later two guards came walking around looking and eventually approached me. They said in broken english, "We need to see your billfold". They pulled coin out and looked at it puzzled. I wasn't sure of the legality or tax consequences of carrying the coin so I said nervously "It's my lucky coin". The guards looked at it, tossed in the air, one made a comment about how heavy it was, literally tossed it about 2 feet to the other guard, who gave it back to me and sent me on my way.

    • ANSWER:
MOST Gaudens are bought these days for their GOLD value not their numismatic value.

Most likely current value ,500 or less*.

*It is AT LEAST the value of the gold (melting value) ...so that value is depending on the ounce content.

If the coin is one ounce and gold is ,100 an ounce then THAT is the value. Gold prices fluctuate.

This site shows 1926 Gauldens from ,356 (to ,000)...depending on where it was minted, condition, etc.

If you cannot find the mint mark, remember that the coin may have been minted at Philadelphia and there will not be any.
Otherwise d for Denver mint or s for San Francisco mint.

      http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/prices/20stgd/pricesgd.shtml

According to this link...only those after 1926 are usually rare...some more so than others.

      http://www.americangoldcoinshop.com/american-gold-coins/saint-gaudens-20-double-eagle-mintage.php

I would advise you hold onto it..it is a great value in a tiny package..and as you noted easily carried about.

Gold coins are usually store in a plastic container. but any container will do. It is not a big deal.
protecting it from scratches and handling on edge only is smart.
