     Example: You bring in a 14karat gold necklace that weighs 11 grams. How much is it "worth" and how much should you get?

     Worth: 11 grams x gram x 58% = 7

     Get: 7 x 70% = 1

     You are never going to get market value for your gold. A lot of people forget that it is a business and there are expenses. About 2% of the gold immediately evaporates upon melting, market price may drop, rent, assay fees, permits, labor, taxes, etc etc. Also market prices are based on 1,000 ounces of bullion (bars, coins etc) on a trading level.

     If you have one ounce of jewelry, and gold is ,000 a ounce you don't get ,000 for that jewelry. Most jewelry is 14k gold and that is only 58.5% pure gold.

     10k- 41.7% Gold
     14k- 58.5% Gold
     18k- 75% Gold
     22k- 91.7% Gold

     Gold (Based on todays price of 3/oz)- 10k- gram, 14k- gram, 18k- gram.

     Silver- 925/Sterling- a ounce.

     This is the absolute least you should get per gram. A lot of place buy it according to pennyweight (DWT) to convert grams to pennyweight just multiply the gram price by 1.55.

     I pay around 6% more than the numbers I listed above for 100 grams of gold OR LESS, if you 100-200 grams I pay 10% more than the prices above, 200 grams or more 12% more than the prices above.

     A few last things. If you have any gold or silver coins or bars (bullion) you should get about 1%-2% below market value if they are pure gold (most are) since they do not need to be melted.

     Also now is NOT the time to sell anything but gold, silver or platinum. If you have diamonds (larger than a 1/2ct), or a high end watch, KEEP THEM IT!! Wait until the economy rebounds a little. You would get half of what you would of got 6 months ago for them!!

     The first is to shop your valuables around town to local jewelers. You can generally price compare them so that you know you are at least getting a competitive bid. The problem is that most jewelers are simply middlemen to a refiner which means you aren't going to get the absolute most for your items.

     The second option is to use a national buyer. I would avoid the suggestion of the poster below who recommended goldintomoney since they are simply a front for Cash4Gold.      f you check around, you will probably find that your local coin shop pays better than any of the places you have access to.. A pawn shop will pay perhaps 50% of the value of the gold (They are in business to loan you money, and what you are pawning is collateral for the loan. If you are selling,a pawn shop is not the place to do it.). Jewelers generally pay a little better, but most coin shops will pay 80 - 90% of the value of the gold. Selling by mail is always a terrible idea. Unless you have several ounces of gold, they pay the least of all, plus since you are not dealing in person, you don't have the option of asking questions.

     Just remember that 14K gold is 14/24 or 58.3% pure gold.

     You might shop around at jewelry stores. Some will buy jewelry. Just be careful though because some of them pay you what the pawn shop will...based on the weight of the gold and nothing else. You might also try putting a classified ad in your local newspaper. Only run it for a week and see if you get any takers. That kind of thing probably wouldn't sell well on Ebay because I think most people would want to see that item in person before purchasing.

A few years ago it was .00 per point on a diamond... Gold in almost any jewelry store will be bought for maybe 60% of the actual gold weight.... not the total weight of ring. Someone's idea of ebay is good, but if this is a high ticket item you should have it appraised by a jewelery appraiser. People are cautious when they can't actually see the piece...       There are two ways to dispose of gold and silver jewelry.

      The first way is to sell them for the precious metal content. Gold is currently flirting with ,400 per troy ounce, and and silver is fluctuating at about / per troy ounce. A 14 karat piece of gold jewelry is 58.5% gold by weight. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver by weight. If you are selling your jewelry for its metal content, you take it to a gold or bullion dealer or coin exchange shop. They will take the jewelry and pay you cash for it. Ultimately it will be melted down for the value of the metal.

      Remember that the price you get will be less than the mathematical price of the precious metal content, in order to cover the cost of assaying, the cost to the melter, etc. If you are going to sell your jewelry only for its metal weight, don't take it to a jeweler, as you will tend to get a worse price.

      The second way to sell jewelry is for its artistic value. Fine pieces of jewelry may have a value that is much greater than the cost of the precious metal alone. In this case, you would want to sell NOT to a gold and silver dealer (who will only pay you for the metal content) but to a *jeweler* who will buy the piece with the intent of reselling it as jewelry.

      The best plan of action is to take the jewelry to a jeweler or pawn shop first, and ask them to appraise it independently. Once you have the appraisal value of the jewelry, you will know how to proceed, and who to sell it to: a precious metals dealer, or a jeweler. Be sure to shop around for the best price!

      P.S. A "troy ounce" (used in weighing precious metals) is equal to 1.0971 regular (avoirdupois) ounces.

I did a great deal of research, online and offline, and learned a lot about this business. I checked pawn shops, jewelers, "gold parties", hotel "buying events as well as the online buyers, including the "as seen on tv" guys. I found that the Silver and Gold Exchange paid more than anyone else I could find.       All the companies will only pay you for the scrap value.
      Take your gold to three pawn shops and dealers.
      You must tell them you need an estimate good for 48 hours and that you will compare other jewelers and pawn shops.
      Don't be a pushover and let them think they will be the only place...

I have seen common silver dollars bring WAY too much money at these auctions by people who do not know what the value should be. This only works on inexpensive coins though. To decide this, of course, you need to know approximate worth. To do that, take them to a reputable dealer, or find out where the local coin club meets and ask their opinions. One thing coin collectors like to do is look at and talk about coins!

      Contact local real estate professionals, they will probably have a handful of buyers looking for just what you have. Another idea is to contact the local engineers/surveyors, they always know who the developers are in the area. The local municipality would also be able to give you some sort of direction.       1. It depends on the type of jewelry you are selling. Antique pieces you're better off selling to jewelers and antique dealers. Scrap gold (stuff that's broken or you don't want) you're better off selling to a pawn shop or refiner.

      2. Yes. White gold is an alloy but it still has gold in it.

      It is a very nice diamond, just being under 1 carat will lower its value. I can not tell you what you can sell it for but I can look up how much the diamond would cost.

But what makes them different from the other cash for gold places is that they will call you and give you an appraisal before they send you the monet. So if you dont like the amount of money they will send your jewelry back. No harm no foul.
