     No. The reason being is that these opportunities are always arbitraged out of the market almost the instant after they appear. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Barclays, and almost every large bank have a desk devoted to finding price discrepancies in markets and cash in on them as soon as they find them. Supply and demand will quickly correct themselves and you will essentially never be able to buy a commodity here for cheap and sell it at a premium in India.
     The large banks also have the advantage of working with huge amounts of capital, so even if you found an opportunity for arbitrage, you would probably only get a return on the order of a fraction of a percent. Any profit you would see would get gobbled up by trading costs. You would need millions of dollars to realize much profit, and you would need to be able to spot the opportunities before the big players do.

     It's in your best interest to not bother yourself with arbitrage. It is exceedingly rare these days for private investors to ever make any money using it.

     Any gold store will tell you if it is real 24 K gold and if you want to know whether it is a good price, the best thing to do is find out what gold is selling for and compare the weight and price proportionally to that. This does require math skills and some people do not like math. However, I love math.

     22 carat gold is that bit harder, and I recommend that as the highest carat for jewellery, especially chains. 24 carat is too soft unless it's very thick.

     18 carat is most popular in the West, or in the UK even 9 carat is popular.

     www.goldpalace.com is a good place to see some 22 carat stuff. Big Indian population in the UK too that all choose 22carat.

     Personally I only have 22 carat except for one 24 carat ring that is thick and custom made, and it scratches and dents really easil but I like the 'patina' it has gained from wear. It wouldn't at all be a good idea on a chain with such small components.

     You might want to consider Palladium because that's becoming increasingly valuable lately!!! just remember, Platinum started off the same way until it became popular in jewellery.

      24 k gold leaf is pure gold already, so there is no need for refining it.
      But with a melting point of 1068 C, this is not something that you can easily melt down (true story: while in high school, in chemistry class, a fried of mine and I extracted gold from a compound and then tried to melt the resulting dust to form a small chip. It took several hours days before we managed to get the refractory electric oven of the lab to a high enough temperature -- we tried for 3 days, in the end, the oven was the first thing he turned on when arriving at school).

      That said, gold leaves would tend to 'stick' to themselves, so you could fold and clump them up and then beat them down to turn them into some sort of ingot; no melting necessary.

      Of you could, best try to avoid any gold plated jewellery cos it will eventually fade. Put some money instead into a 918 gold jewellery. If that is out of your budget then take an 18k gold jewellery cos it won't tanished like 23k gold plated jewellery. Hope this helps.

      The overhead on small quantity bullion is enormous so it certainly won't be an investment as there would have to be a tremendous gain to overcome the overhead. Plus it's only about even at the spot rate. I would say it's a waste of money. Hopefully, your gold chip is attractively packaged.

      if amazon says it is 24K gold then it is because amazon is a world renowned authentic source. it is rather hard to work with 24K gold and normally silver is added to make it malleable but it retains its 24k quality.

      Are you sure that it is 24k, and not 22k or 23k(24k is rarely used in jewelery because it is too soft), the factor determining the value is the price of gold per oz , or gram. 0 will be about 1/3 of an oz of 24k chain. it would have a greater value to someone as an item of jewelery.

      If you bought the chain at retail value 8 years ago you might only have 6 grams so you will only get about 0 now.

      It would have been nice to know the weight of your chain.

      Its fine, it's easier to keep to keep clean and the least reactive metal you can use for piercings. It is also distinctly different in color from gold- silver alloys.

      The only possible problem is that pure gold is very soft. It will easily be deformed by pressure and the surface can be scratched easily. SO you have to consciously protect it. ANd because it is so soft you should not try to remove it often.

      The price is .03/gram. I know of no place that sells grams of gold. The most common way to buy gold in the U.S. is coins. Several coins are available and easy to buy and sell. The most popular ones are the U.S. Double Eagle, the Canadian Maple leaf and the South African Krugerrand. All of those coins run about ,000. My only warning to you would be find a trustworthy dealer that will sell you a coin(any dealer will sell you a coin) and buy it back(some won't) without problems. Many rare coin dealers handle bullion type coins. I would try to find a local dealer that has a shop you can walk into.

      If you are looking for a smooth, plated look, there is not a paint in the world that will do that despite what the Diva says, you cant get a plated look with paint.
      If you are ok with cheesy metallic that looks like paint go for it, but you can take it to a plating shop and have it electroplated with brass or a gold colored chromium.

      If you're selling for the gold value only, than it goes by weight. If you're selling for the aesthetics of the jewelery, than it can go much higher than the cost of the gold, just as it did years ago when you bought it.

      Ebay or other such site would be your best bet. Ebay has the best reputation, and I highly suggest you open a Paypal account and use that as the only method of acceptable payment. This is the safest method of money transfer on ebay for both buyer and seller.

      For a starting/reserve price to list the jewelry at, you could pay the cost of an appraisal, but that probably won't be cost effective for such a small piece. You could, if you wish, consult two or three pawn shops. This should give you an idea of the minimum value at least. Some mom & pop jewelry stores may give you a rough estimate without charging appraisal fees. It couldn't hurt to ask.

      I suggest that instead of going for physical why don't you check out Gold ETFs like Gold BeES – a gold exchange traded fund by Benchmark mutual fund, its listed and traded on the stock exchange with real time NAV throughout the market hrs., the price of one unit is equal to approximate one gram of gold.

      Also remember that you will need to rollover your contract every time it expires. The rollover can happen at a premium or discount. If you are a long term holder, then rolling over your futures at a premium every month will add up to a huge expense. It’s better to buy Gold BeES then as you can just hold it perpetually without any rollover tension. Also, there is tendency that because you pay just 15% margin you end up taking leverage which mean in the same Rs.100/- that you have you can take 6 times exposure. Taking leverage is good as long as you make money but if the trade goes against you the loss can be huge so be careful of not taking leverage.

      Also, remember in every market there is a cash & a derivatives market in which you need to pay just margin. Both trade good volumes for their own reasons.

      The only value of a gold or silver bar is its meltdown value. It doesn't matter whether it's dirty or dented or scratched, meltdown value is the same.

      I can manufacture any package you want to "prove" the purity. The dealer doesn't care about the package.

      I would always be cautious, but probably not. I buy a lot of jewelry from one pawnshop I have been dealing with for over 30 years, so I get good prices and good advice from them too. Find a pawnshop that you can ask a lot of questions about the gold and diamond rings. If they give you good advice, I would tend to work with that person more of the time. Right now gold is about .00 to .00 a gram, depending on the carats, item and wear on the item itself. I get charged .00 a gram most of the time and a lot of the time even less, I buy a lot of jewelry for my daughters dowelry. Most shops will always way overprice their lightweight gold jewelry, so do some leg work for a few months before investing in gold jewelry.       Your best bet is to buy from a reputable (in business a long time) local coin dealer. This way, you can see and feel the weight of the coins before you buy. Also, it's probably best to buy coins issued by a sovereign government and not the 1 oz. bullion (or 10 oz.) that are out there. In some cases, the bullion would need to be assayed or tested (with acid or shaving) to check that it is real (unless it's encapsulated by a the issuing company in a tamper-evident case) whereas if you purchase an American Eagle or Buffalo or Canadian Maple Leaf or other foreign government issue, there's no question of it's gold content. If you do buy gold, understand that it is a very long-term proposition since once you have it, it doesn't do much - it doesn't pay interest or dividends but I would think that it is nice to take out and look at from time to time. You will likely lose money in the short term until inflation increases it's value over a long period of time. The recommended allocation that I've heard is no more than 5% of your total portfolio's value should be in precious metals. Also, when you're at the dealer, you should not be charged any more than around 10% over the spot value of the metal. Below is a link you can check to see the daily spot value. Keep the coins, or bullion, encased in protective plastic Air-Tites since condition (in the distant future) may be important when selling.       It really depends on what your portfolio looks like and how long until you retire. Diversification is important as is an asset allocation based upon your age and future expectations. Gold is a long term investment which will not provide a substantial return for several years. Actually I would say decades. Remember the saying.....buy low sell high. Well, right now it is really high.

      If you do decide to invest in gold you may consider gold shares in a mining company or Gold SPDR shares. Physical gold does not pay dividends while your shares would. Also keep in mind the gold market is extremely volatile. It's not for the weak stomached investor.

      Without knowing your age, current investments, and value of your portfolio it's really hard to say yes or no if this is a good idea. If you are young with a portfolio less than 0,000 I would consider ETF's and skip your thoughts of gold. ETF's are diversified and can provide a substantial rate of return. You will have ups and downs but if you pick the right one, it can payoff. In case you already haven't, I would suggest contacting a investment agency for additional details.

    and what is white metal? if you were to buy jewelry with white metal would it ware off?

      white gold IS gold. they add something to it to get the color. i prefer yellow gold though.

      24k is pure gold. The less the k, the less the amount of gold in it.
      14k is less gold than 24k or18k.
      rose gold is gold with a bit more copper in it.
      pure gold is kind of soft, so other metals are added to make it harder.

    Is gold cheaper in Europe?
    Some guy on Skype told me he is buying 18-24k Gold from Italy at a gram. He is having it shipped here and selling 0 worth of gold for 00. I called bullshit but he seems to be telling the truth. He is not asking me to give him money or buy anything so hes not trying to scam me. He wont tell me his source but he told me it is possible.

    Does anyone know anything about this? Could it actually be true?
