QUESTION:
Where's the best place to buy cheap or scrap silver?
I want to start making small investments in sterling or other silver. Looking at new Chinese exports on ebay US, but weight isn't mentioned - some pieces on there starting at 1c including freight, so I made a few bids, but really looking for ounces rather than grams.Any advice welcome.
-
ANSWER:
The price of silver and of gold is the same all over the world. Silver currently trades at about .50 per ounce, but does go up or down every day. So, you pay the same for silver in London, as you would in New York or Peking (Beijing), China.Someone who has scrap silver sells it to a dealer who melts it down for reuse, and the seller gets pretty much its value of the world silver price minus a processing charge. So there is very little chance for you to get a good bargain.
Be careful with auctions, especially if you have to pay the freight from a foreign country, especially China. Is what they are selling really 100% silver (.9999 fine)? I frequently bid on eBay auctions and thereby avoid the sometimes outrageous markups of dealers, but I would only buy it from my own country to avoid the high shipping charges.

QUESTION:
What Can I Get For Scrap Silver Jewelry?
Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if scrap silver jewelry is worth anything. Don't laugh, I weighed it on a food scale, and it reads 480 grams or 1.09 ounces. Does that mean anything to anyone? Sorry, but I do not know much about jewelry stats. So, if I brought it to a place that says they buy gold/silver/etc....would I get anything for it do you think? Thanks in advance, everyone.-
ANSWER:
I have sold my gold to a couple of online gold buyers and a few local shops. I got the best payout from Captain Cash For Gold- http://www.captaincashforgold.com/. QUESTION:
Why is the price of pure Silver Coins so much higher than its scrap value?
I was looking at buying silver coins as an investment. I did some research and found that the price of the coins (like the eagle coin) is often more than double the price of its scrap value.
Does anyone know why this is ?
Thank you to Mark, very insightful answer
and also thank you to the others,
I will look into it some more-
ANSWER:
The simple answer is supply and demand. It's not so simple, however, because all silver coins are not created equally. When you start looking at silver coins, you're not looking at just the metal in them. There is a whole 'nother thing called numismatic value, or the value to a coin collector. In many cases, this value far exceeds the value of the silver alone. In others, there is absolutely no collector value, and if you know where to look and how to buy it, you can buy these coins for less than the spot market price. I do it constantly.
Let me give you a few examples. Let's take the silver Eagles. There are two kinds, the bullion investment coins and the proof collector coins. Proof Eagles are not silver bullion coins. You can buy them directly from the US Mint, and for significant premiums over the value of the silver. Why? Well, for starters, you can't sell something for cost. The Mint has to buy the silver at market prices, and produce, package and market the collector coins. The bullion coins are sold by the Mint to authorized distributors only, the average person cannot get them except from dealers who get them from the distributors. The Mint sells these coins for a small premium over metal cost to cover production costs and the distributors tack on their mark-up to dealers, who tack on their mark-up to you. So you will not find even the bullion coins without paying some premium.
There is another factor as well, the quantity produced. Proofs are made in smaller numbers than bullion coins. And in some years, the numbers are smaller than others. The proof coins from these years will easily bring prices double or more than the average proof. The most famous example is the 1995 West Point proof Eagle. There were only 30,125 made (as opposed to many hundreds of thousands for other dates). This coin sells in the neighborhood of ,000. The average proof Eagle sells for - . Rare coins have nothing to do with the value of the metal in them, and everything to do with how rare they are and what the demand is. There are coins that are much more rare then the 1995 W Eagle that sell for less money, because fewer collectors are interested, while the Eagles are very, very popular and in demand.
Now, as for examples of how you can buy silver for investment for near, or in some cases, below spot silver. To do this, you need to know exactly how much silver is in any given coin. This can be researched. You want to know the actual silver weight (ASW) in a coin. Just knowing that a coin is 90% silver, 40% silver, sterling (92.5%) or whatever %, is not enough. You need to know the exact amount of pure silver in a coin to be able to figure out its spot market or 'melt' value. Very often, the people selling these things, especially on eBay, do not know the right numbers, or intentionally overstate it to mislead the unknowing. If you know, you can make smart buying decisions, and in the case of those who don't know what they have, you can get great deals.
A lot of people are into buying the silver ETF. I'm not. I do not trust paper investments. If something big happens and people decide they want their silver, these paper-pushers do NOT have the physical silver to deliver. It will be like the run on the banks at the start of the Great Depression. Many banks were wiped out and so were those who had their money in these banks. ETFs are not insured. I want the silver in my hands.
I buy US and foreign silver coins, only when I can get them below spot, and I buy private-issue silver medals like Franklin Mint and others. A lot of times people aren't sure what they have and what's in them and I get good deals. You can, too, but first you have to read and research, and teach yourself.

QUESTION:
Anyone bought sterling junk silver (mainly jewelry) on eBay?
Just saw some eBay listings for scrap silver, looks like a lot of jewelry on some of these listings, and I was wondering if any of you had had any experience buying scrap silver online on eBay or elsewhere in jewelry form. Coins are a bit easier to identify as the real thing, but I'm curious if any of you have had any experience with any of this. I'd be tempted to buy for the value of the silver:http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=scrap+sterling+jewelry
I'm not at all interested in gold just because since it's worth so much more, there'd be a lot more people trying to pass off fakes.
-
ANSWER:
Well, if you are going to buy then make sure the seller has a high feedback rating and has been a member of Ebay for a long time. By the way, if you want to know a way to get money back every time you buy something on Ebay, then send me an email.

QUESTION:
Buying and melting silver scraps..help!?
Im looking to start collecting and buying silver scraps and jewelry to smelt them down into bars (not for resale, just for me personally as an investment). Ive seen vids on youtube and read articles on the web but i still have some questions. This is what i know so far:
*I need a silver acid test to determine if the object is real silver and also determine the purity.
*I can also look for stampings such as ".925 sterling silver/halmark, mint or pure .999" on bullions, bars, coins, jewelry and silverware but that can be forged.
*A scale to weigh the silver.
*Molds/casts, butane tank and torch, and other melting supplies to smelt silver. My questions are:
*If i decide to buy any jewelry or scraps from individuals, how much should i pay them? (i.e. is there a calculation/formula)
*In one video i saw on youtube on smelting silver, a guy added grains of pure silver in the melting silver so that the purity was + .925, how many grains would i need for each 1oz bars? do i really need to add them? and also how can i make my silver bars .999?
*Should i melt and mold my own silver bars, so i can cut cost of bringing them to a refinery?Any other information would be helpful, thank you!
-
ANSWER:
Don't even attempt it. It's a fool's mission. Making your own silver bars is not an investment. When you go to sell them, they'll be treated as scrap and you'll have done all that work only to be paid the discounted price for stuff that goes to the refiner. Why? Because no one's ever heard of you and will not trust that your bars are anything like trusted names like Engelhard or Johnson Matthey.I know you said they are not for resale, just as a personal investment. But stop and think for a moment. What IS an investment, any investment, but something you buy to eventually sell or exchange for greater value? Your bars that you make for yourself will do you no good.

QUESTION:
Scrap Sterling Silver, 550 Grams of .925, If an ounce is about today, how much should I expect to receive?
I have 550 grams of .925 sterling silver and I am planning to bring it to a scrap dealer. I understand the spot price fluctuates, but if the "value" of the metal is about 5 for the 550 grams, how much should I expect to receive if I bring it to a "we buy gold/silver" store? Thanks!
Spot price today was about . I ended up selling the 550 grams of scrap sterling for more than 0
Those "we buy gold/silver" places are SUCH A RIP OFF! -
ANSWER:
0-6. Spot is but you never get that per ounce. You get apx 63% of spot for .90 silver. Some of the We Buy Gold/Silver places pay 1/2 of that amount. Each one is looking for something different. Some want coins; some want jewelry.

QUESTION:
Where do I go to have my gold and silver scrapped?
I don't want to be ripped off by a pawn shop and I need the money before tuesday. Do I have to go through a fine jeweler or are there local companies that buy your scrap gold?-
ANSWER:
Yes nearly every jewelery store especially the private ones can help you out, dont get jipped, check out the current price of gold that day before you go out to get some offers, btw gold recently has been hovering around at an all time high of 1000.00 per ounce, of course the jewler wont really give you quite that much (they need to make money too here...), but you should be ok at any jewlery shop thats reputable.

QUESTION:
how much should I pay for crap silver ?
I would like to buy scrap gold and silver as a venture-
ANSWER:
Scrap Value" If you see this check it your self.
Three easy stepsYou must KNOW EXACTLY what you are bidding on. Auctions listing Precious Metals for sale as "SCRAP" will include the weight 99% of the time. They list most weights in grams. But you will also see listings in ounces (oz), postal ounces, pounds (lb.), or even grains.
1. You need to convert this to an amount that easy for you to calculate the ACTUAL Scrap Value.
2. You need to know the ACTUAL % of content of Precious Metals.
3. You need the current spot of value of the precious metal.
I like to convert all of my weights to "TROY" ounces because the "Spot" amount on Precious Metals is based on weight in troy ounces. If an auction lists a weight in ounces ALWAYS assume it is NOT troy ounces. If you search ebay for scrap silver you will see many listings with weights in ounces. If you assume it is troy you will come up short by about 9%. It is an advantage to the seller that you will think that this is the amount of silver or gold that they have for sale. They boost the perceived value by 9% when they list it this way.
To convert from the listed weights use the following formulas;Make sure the items that are listed do NOT have any extra non-silver or gold weight, like stones. Large stones can add a lot of weight to gold.
Ounces, oz, or postal ounces. Take the listed amount and multiply by .91 to convert to TROY Ounces (t.oz.) 11 ounces x .91 = 10.01 troy ounces
Grams. Take the listed weight and divide by 31.103 to convert to TROY ounces (t.oz) 111 grams / 31.103 = 3.569 troy ounces.
Grains. Take the listed weight and divide by 480 to convert to TROY ounces (t.oz) 444 grains / 480 = .925 troy ounces.
Pounds (lb.). Take the listed weight and multiply by 16 to convert to ounces (t.oz) 11 pounds x 16 = 176 ounces. Now convert this to troy ounces by multiply by .91 176 x .91 = 160.16 TROY Ounces
Precious Metals %'s of ContentSilver. Most silver for sale on Ebay is STERLING (.925) 92.5%, 925/1000. There are others such as "Coin" silver 90% (US pre 65 silver coins), 800 or 80%, 835, or 83.5% and a very few items that are PURE SILVER .999 or 99.9%. Just so you understand PURE silver is always listed as .999
Gold. The most common gold is the USA is 14k. PURE Gold is 24k. Gold content is measured in "k". To get 14k they mix 14 parts of PURE gold with 10 parts other metals, as copper.
9k. 37.5% pure gold (Typically found in Europe)
10k. 41.66% pure gold
12k. Probably only gold plated. .001% or less gold
14k. 58.33% pure gold
16k. 66.66% Pure gold (Old Dental Gold, always treat this gold as 14k)
18k. 75% pure gold
22k. 91.66% Pure gold (Asian and Middle Eastern) Some of this 22k gold is marked .999 but will not test as 24k.
24k. 100% Pure gold (Only in certified) if not certified do not buy as 24k.

QUESTION:
Selling sterling silver for scrap question.?
I have found a thrift store where I can buy sterling silverware that looks either antique or vintage. Many are monogrammed. Each peice is only 99 cents. Would this be good to buy and sell for scrap. I am wondering if I'd make a profit or not.-
ANSWER:
If it really is sterling silver, then yes, it would be. Right now, silver is trading at about .50/ounce, and sterling silver is 92.5% silver.A lot of "sterling" silverware is only silver plated, in which case, it would be useless as scrap. You'd have to look at each piece to determine which it is. It should be marked if is sterling, or silver plated.

QUESTION:
how do you invest in gold or silver?
I was wondering where you buy the gold and then where would you sell the gold for a good price?is it mostly just scrap gold and silver that is bough and sold?
-
ANSWER:
There are several ways to invest. No, it is not mostly scrap gold and silver that is bought and sold. Forget the TV ads. Most people buy and sell using an investment company (either a stock broker type or a precious metals company). The types of investment are the following:
1. Collectible coins. - It is best not to try this without knowledge of the subject. Use a reputable dealer as listed below for bullion coins.
2. Bullion Coins - You can buy these by mail from a reputable dealer. (Blanchard, Investment Rarities, etc.) I shy away from the ones that advertise on TV. The better companies advertise in financial magazines.
3. Stock or mutual funds dealing with bullion production or mining. Check out stock symbol: ABX & UXG for gold HL for silver. (HL has not performed well in the past 2 months.)
4. Stock in a reputable company that buys and maintains gold and silver in their vault. Example : CEF
CAUTION: Gold and silver are volatile and you will see the price go up and down. Mining stocks are even more volatile. Start with an amount that you could risk loosing 25% of its value without hurting yourself.
I invest in gold stock and mutual funds and make good profits. But I do not use the buy and hold strategy. Some people do.
My strategy is pretty basic but it works for me. I try to buy after prices have fallen some and sell when I can make 10% to 15%. I recently made a little over 25 % on a mining stock. I have also sold at a 30% loss before I learned to sell quick to take my profits and cut losses.
Start slowly. Go with the price trends. Sell quick to cut your losses and take advantage of profits.
Use Yahoo Finance to do your research. I like to watch the 3 month graph of the price of a stock.
I also do all my gold and silver trading from an IRA to keep the profits from being eaten up by taxes and to simplify record keeping. If you want to buy and sell stock or mutual funds, I recommend Charles Schwab, eTrade or other discount broker.
Good luck.

QUESTION:
Trying to get out of debt, when is the best time to sell our scrap gold and silver?
My husband and I are trying to get out of debt, paying off credit cards, student loans, etc. We have made quite a dent in the past two years considering we have a six year old, four year old, and one year old. We have a decent amount of scrap gold and silver we would like to sell to pay off debt or invest in my husbands business (he needs cash for a buying trip as we sell items online). We have a friend that does this and will give us a fair price for it. Do we hold onto it and hope that the prices continue to climb, or go ahead and sell it and pay towards our debt or invest in the business now? When do you think it will reach it's peak price?-
ANSWER:
Unfortunately, it is not clear when gold and silver will "peak", but it looks like some point in the indefinite future. It could be next month, it could be years down the road. Gold and silver have appreciated nicely over the past 5 years, but I don't think anyone can tell you when the best time to sell would be.Grandpa

QUESTION:
Is scrapping out old TVs for copper worth the effort?
I've probably disassembled 10 TVs. I find then on craigs list for free. I noticed that there is a fair amount of copper in them i.e. transformer, around the picture tube ect. Plus there is aluminum and other metals. But i'v also noticed that the insulated wires inside the TV are silver in color and if you scrape them you see a copper color. I've also noticed that some of the copper has a red or different color coating on them. So basically I've got these questions.
1. Will scrap yards by coated copper (I'm not talking about wire insulation)
2. What other metals in a TV are worth scrapping and how do I tell the difference.
3. Will scrap yard buy silver colored wires in a TV?-
ANSWER:
The TVs are not worth as much as Computer monitors. They have a very similar set up to TVs except they have more metal and less glass. I have a detailed write up on those here: http://scrappingmetal.blogspot.com/2010/11/copper-in-crts-follow-up.htmlThe value of the metal inside of a TV depends on the type of TV and the size.
1.) Yes, the scrap yards will buy enamel coated copper. It is classified as Copper #2
2.) There is a yoke at the top of the tube which I think you accidentally called a transformer. On the small "low grade board" there are some transformers and possible a little bit of aluminum, but usually very little. Your Scrap yard may buy the low grade boards separate as something other then mixed metal
3.) The silver colored wire you are talking about is actually tinned copper. It is copper mesh wire with a thin coating of tin applied to its surface. They will also buy this as copper #2
The more experience you get with taking them apart, the more you may find it to be too much of a hassle. There is more in a computer monitor in my opinion.
I have a list of things I have written about how to scrap apart here: http://scrappingmetal.blogspot.com/p/how-tos.html
Good Luck Scrapping!!!

QUESTION:
How much is the price of gold today 7/12/2008 closing on 7/11/2008?
I am looking to see gold as scrap, gold in new pieces, and silver as scrap and new pieces.I am going to different jewelers that buy gold to see what the best price is,I just want to know what I am up against and the real prices versus what they will pay.Any feedback to help me not get ripped off or sold for alot less than I should. Thanks-
ANSWER:
Prices change constantly, you can monitor them online:http://www.kitco.com
Dealers will charge you a small percentage over "spot", or pay you a small percentage under "spot", for items valued primarily for their gold or silver content. Rare items or finely worked jewely goes for even more. If you just want to buy and sell gold or silver, you might check coin dealers as well.

QUESTION:
Scrap booking, photo book question?
Ok this isn't technically about scrap booking, but I thought the scrapbookers would know the answers to this question.I'm wanting to get a photo book from shutterfly for my upcoming wedding guest book. We want to do a title page with our pic and such & then leave the rest of the pages blank, but we wanted to use black paper.
I've never bought any kind of photo book before so I don't have a clue about what kind of paper to expect.
So we want to do a photobook with black pages & use those metallic white, silver & pink pens for our guests to write their happy wishes to us. My mom & sisters are saying that those metallic pens will bleed through to the other pages. They are telling me I should just buy a scrapbook & scrapbook black paper & use those pens on the scrapbook instead of doing the photobook.
Does anyone have any advice on this? I really don't know what to do I'm confused, lol. But whatever I do i need to do it ASAP, I'm getting married in one month!!

QUESTION:
I need some advice deciding which car to buy, the decision will deeply affect the car's initial owners.?
Heya, I'm just finishing my GCSEs in UK, and my dad's agreed to buy me my first car. Happily, we went around looking for a car, out of the many I saw, I like two of them. Both of them were in my budget. Now as my dad is a very caring father, and does not want to spoil me, he said I could only buy one. I'm completely fine with that. But here lies the problem... Both these car's owners are desperate for money, and they need it... and BAD.
The first car I saw, was a RR Silver Spur, antique car, truely beautiful and very rare as well, but its owner, this old man was selling it for a mere 4500 pounds, which is quite a lot, but nothing compared to its original value. He needs this money for his leg operation, to take care of his retired wife, and also his grand children. Its not that the car is scrap, it works perfectly well, we went and saw it, the old man is just desperate for the money. And I liked the car, and the idea that if I bought it, I would be helping him, his wife and his grand children. The second car I saw, was this Ford Fiesta, won many magazine front covers, it had massive speakers, Lamborghini doors, two seater with touchscreen TV's all over the roof, the dash... what esle can I say... I even took a test drive in this car, it was RAW. He showed me reciepts for all the modifications he had done, it had over 30 grand spent over it. But, he was selling it for 4000 pounds, and he was trying very hard to try and make me like it, which I did. We visited his house, he didn't even have a door in his toilet, his wife wanted a back garden, he couldn't afford to pay builder for it, and he was building it himself, told me he was building it for quite some time. He even had two kid's to put through school....
Both these car's are nice, I LIKE THEM. The price of each is not very different from the other. And they are also great value for money, INFACT they're a bargain for me... One is beautifully exquisite and prestigious, other is just beautifully savage and rough...
It's not this that bother's me, it is what may happen two both these seller's families, if I don't buy from one of them. The old man, might not be able to have his leg operation, may not be able to provide for his wife, and his grand child... OR the other man, may not be able to pay for his children schooling, his FAMILY and may continue to live in shame, he could not even afford a door for his bathroom. =[

QUESTION:
What laptop should I buy among these models?
i'm a college student and i want to buy a laptop for educational purposes. (and maybe a bit of facebook here and there,
)I'm not a gamer. I just want a laptop that can multitask like I can. I click things fast, and I expect it to work as fast as I do. I hate slow PCs.
A large memory will be very much needed also. I remember when I was in highschool, I had 3GB worth of pics, documents all for one year. The things I saved were'nt scrap at all, I used all of it. School stuff.
I live in a dorm in the school where i go to. My favourite place is the library and i would want to bring my future HP laptop with me a LOT of times.
I'm female and you can definitely say im sort of nerdy. (I don't look nerdy, mind you)
And last but not least: Budget. I have a 500 pound budget (GBP). I'm going back to school in less than 2 wks and i havent chosen anything yet. (except for a sony vaio CS series one, which is wayyy out of the budget)
So to sum it up:
*Not for gaming
*a lot of multitasking
*large memory
*portable (i dont really mind the weight, just as long as i dont have to drag it from place to place)
*BUDGET: 500 British pounds
*Color: Black, white, silver
*sexy designI have a computer technician and he says these are the top brands:
-Sony
-Asus
-Hp
-Toshiba
*not in orderI would of course appreciate it if you would give me more than one model to choose from.
I wouldn't quite mind if you gave me a model form another brand. Just make sure it's a good one.
I live in the Philippines. Somewhere near CEBU CITY. Its a large international city. (as what i've been told)
Please and thank you.

ANSWER:
I'm not familiar with Asus so I can't say on that one. Sony oddly enough aren't as good at computers as their other electronics although they are good, they aren't best. HP and Toshiba are both excellent. Multitasking means a duo or duel core processor. Today's standard of 3 to 4 GB of RAM should be enough. Also today's standard of 250 to 500 GB hard drive should keep you going for years. REMEMBER sooner or later all computers, external hard drives and other devices will die not to mention crash. Always backup your stuff. DVDs last 20 years or more.

QUESTION:
Who buys silverware, How do you sell silverware?
My father gives me a small box of random silverware. Says "Here sell this maybe it's worth something for the silver." Nothing matches, It's all old, but it is all solid silver and not plated. Most scrap yards i have called won't take it. How can i sell this? Is there any market?-
ANSWER:
Yes! Try a jeweler, a pawn shop, a coin dealer, or any place that advertises that they buy old gold and silver. These pieces may not have a great collector value, but they are worth at least the going rate for silver. Places will be glad to buy it.

QUESTION:
rosin for soldering?
i've been remelting some of my old scrap lead/silver solder so i could re-use them. the problem is that it doesn't have any rosin with it anymore, so it's hard to make sure i absolutely have the perfect electrical contact.so, instead of buying those overpriced rosin flux liquids, i was thinking of using cheap old generic ones usually used for bowed string instruments like these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Flux-Violin-Viola-Cello-Bow-New-Amber-Rosin-/170562204004
by "lead/silver" i mean solder from
1) lead based solder lead/tin, etc, etc...
2) and silver based ones antimony/copper/silver etc, etca mix of all this (and possibly my addition of a tiny bit of aluminum) makes quite a fast flowing and low melting alloy, unlike the most silver based ones... unfortunately i don't can't precisely measure it myself..
-
ANSWER:
Are you sure the solder is LEAD + SILVER ??
Silver solder has very high melting point, more than 1000 C. And it need a special flux contains Fluorides.
Perhaps your solder is LEAD+TIN. You may buy one small size flux from home-depot for copper
pipe soldering. Cost .

QUESTION:
Handling stolen goods?? ?
Hi all. Im a scrap metal dealer of gold and silver. Iv just bought some scales and started buying non ferrous metals. I work in the town and advertise for the metal. I got arrested and am out on bail to attend at the end of the month. Heres the question. Basicly i have been hoodwinked to an address and am now being tryed for handling stilen goods. I payed full price and traded on certified scales in broad daylight. Granted i didnt give a waste transpher note, if im to be found guilty what will the outcome for a first offence be? Very worried. QUESTION:
spray painting car door help ?
hi, recently someone reversed into my front passenger side door on my 4 door on my almera...
i bought a new door from the scrap yard - it's a silver one where as my car is tornado green... i can mix the paint from halfords
but i asked some guy at a workshop he said i need to paint the back door and the front wing as well? is this true and why? or what do i do??-
ANSWER:
The method this guy is on about is called blending. basically he is right in saying that the other door and wing will need painting so the car looks as if it has never been painted. If you just paint the one door it will stand out as the paint on that door is new and the rest of the paint on the car is old. Also paint in spray cans are ideal for little spot repairs and touch ups. Painting a whole panel with these will look flat and inconsistant.
Get a quote from a body shop, it could be cheaper than you think. Especially if you pay out for all the items in halfords* to have to then pay a bodyshop to do the job again.
*sand paper, primer, bascoat, clearcoat, pre paint, tac rag, wet and dry paper, polish etc

QUESTION:
Me buying my car will deeply affect its previous owners?
Please Help
-
ANSWER:
WARNING! This sounds like you are about to get robbed. If someone doesn't have a door on his toilet but can spend 30K on a car, then there is something very wrong here. He is lying to you about something. And buy an antique RR Silver Spur for someone your age is quite unreasonable. Think of the cost of maintenance, reliability, getting parts, etc. Also I get the feeling the old man is trying to fool you with stories of trouble, just to get you to buy something that is probably on its last legs, and he desperately needs to dump it while he can.Keep looking. Run away from those two.

QUESTION:
Audi A6 1998 - Engine Blown?
Silver 1998 A6, front wheel drive, blue interior. Engine blew an oil seal and lost all oil and ruined engine. Car has 140,000 highway miles. Until engine blew car was running great, AC, transmission, etc all good. I got a few quotes on replacing engine, around ,000 parts and labor.
At this point I am inclined to sell it as scrap and if I can afford it just buy another car at some point.
1. Any opinions on that?
2. What is the car worth for scrap, rims are good, all body panels good, water pump, alternator, dashboard displays, etc all good.
3. What is the best way to sell it.-
ANSWER:
Here's one way to look at it. You can pay the 00, and you'll have an Audi which will be a nice car, have a new engine and lots of life left in it. Or you can sell it and buy another car for the same price, and have another used car with potential big problems, won't have a new engine, and you're opening up a can of worms with the unknown. If you plan to keep it for some time, a new engine may not be the worst investment.

QUESTION:
Spacious Pushchair For 2 Year Old?
i just wondered if anyone knows of a spacious pushchiar that would be ideal for my daughter, the wheel fell off her last one and we're looking to buy her a new stroller( less than £100) her last one was a silver cross pop vogue and she looked with a winter coat very squashed she's only 21 months but is a very big girl she's in 2-3 year clothes and weughs about 2stone. Anyone know what that is in kgs?
We would just scrap it all together but as i don't drive i do far too much walking for my daughters legs.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks-
ANSWER:
Well I used the Mothercare Atlan travel system for my daughter, which converted from a backward facing pram to a forward facing pushchair. She's now 2 yrs 4 months and is able to walk for miles, so give your little one a chance to stretch her legs - you'd be surprised how far they can walk. Anyway the Atlan is very spacious.Edit- they don't do the Atlan anymore, but here's the closest version:

QUESTION:
BM's slow to order shawls!?
I'm getting married in Feb of next year. I thought it would be neat to have outdoor photos taken in the snow. My mom is completely against the idea, and refuses to order a shawl stating that she "just can't afford it."My other two BM's are onboard with the idea, but one is also having money problems and the other one hasn't got back to me yet.
I thought about buying them all a shawl, but I can't even afford it, and the colors don't even go with my scheme. (violet and silver.)
What do I do? Should I just scrap the whole outdoor picture thing? (The photographer suggested the local botanical center for photos if the weather was bad...but I just thought it would be weird having my wedding in winter and having photos with greenery in the background)....at the same time if it's as windy as it was when we had our engagment photos done then I don't want outdoors bc a lot of our engagement photos are bad because of my hair in my face or in my fiance's face.
HELP!
I am getting some fantastic answers! You are all right.-
ANSWER:
A few outdoors action shots with just you and your husband would be cute (think throwing snowballs at each other or pretending to build a snowman together), but I will be honest the whole bridal party lined up in the snow would look a little odd to me, like why are you all just standing there in the snow?I have seen a few brides wear cute fur (or faux) shrugs with their gowns and it was very elegant looking but I find shawls to kind of just hang there and not really add anything to the dresses (and sometimes take away from the dress as it hides the beadwork, details, etc).

QUESTION:
Insurance company lied to us!!!!!?
We had a stunning BMW in silver which was the best car we have ever had by far!!
My partner was driving to work and some idiot was driving on the wrong side of the road and crashed into him!We went to a garage they said it was a complete write off (it was only cosmetic damage) and the insurance company said that they are taking the car to be scrapped but if we wanted the car back we would have to buy it back with ALL the insurance money we received (£800) which ment we had to pay over £1000 to get it fixed we clearly couldn't afford that so they kept the car and said it would be scrapped asap NOW the thing is....
we seen the exact same car today same number plate and everything!
I am so angry!! we loved that car and it was taken off our hands by someone driving like an idiot!! The other driver had everything paid for and it was an older model then ours was! the police said it wasn't anyones fault just an accident!
(what when he was on the other side of the road!?!)What can we do about this? We want that car back so bad!
I doubt the other owners are going to give that car up
-
ANSWER:
When a car is a total loss - the insurance company buys it from you. They pay you the fair market value and in return - you give them the car.Once the insurance company takes possession of the car - they sell it at a salvage auction to try and get back some of the money they paid you. That's why you don't get to keep the car and get the full market value. You would not go to the grocery store - pay for a gallon of milk and then tell the store - they can keep the milk. Same principle - the insurance company is not going to buy the car from you then tell you to keep the car.
At the salvage auction - It is very common for "re-builders" to purchase the wrecked car and repair it. For a re-builder - the only cost to repair the car is the parts. They have the skills and equipment to do the work themselves. Then they turn around and sell the repaired car to make a small profit.
Can you get the car back? Maybe - make the current owner an offer they can't refuse. IE....pay way more than the car is actually worth. However, if it gets wrecked again - you will only get the fair market value less a very large deduction for the rebuilt salvage history on the car. In short - you'd take a bath on it. Sentimental value may be worth a lot to you - but it has no value in the market place.
My suggestion - is to take your time and keep looking -find another car to fall in love with.
Good Luck.

If you have ANY ideas, no matter how many, put them down, cause even if it's not the greatest idea, I might have a way to make it work. Thanks for all your help!
