Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Cash For Old Gold

I'm sure now you have seen all the gold for cash commercials on TV and probably wondering yourself if they are a scam or can you really get good cash for your old jewelry? There are a handful of companies nationwide including Cash4Gold and Dollars for Gold, just to name a few that claim you can get good money for your old broken jewelry, watches, and other type of gold and even silver in some cases.

Our Gold for Cash Review:
The process of getting rid of your old unwanted jewelry is fairly simple, at least that's what each company advertises on their television commercial. The basic process is that you fill out a simple form on the companies website and they will in turn send you a safe mailer where you will put your unwanted jewelry in the pre-paid envelope. Some companies will insure the envelope up to 0, so you have to make sure that you read each companies full policies to know for sure what the insurance amount is.

Once you mail your jewelry, they will send you a check in return on average a couple of weeks from after you mail it in. How do you know if you are getting a fair deal for your gold? That's one of the many reasons people are wondering if the cash for gold companies scam individuals by only giving a minimal amount for their jewelry.

You will want to weed out the bad Cash for Gold refining companies and only use the ones that pay you top dollar for your gold.

  3. QUESTION:
Has anyone had any experience with the companies that buy your old gold or silver for cash?
I see several advertised on TV. Are they the best way to convert unwanted or broken jewelry into cash, or would a person be better off going to a local business? I recognize the price is tied to the current price of whatever the precious metal is, but what method would give the biggest cut of that price to the owner?

    • ANSWER:
Most online gold buyers REFUSE to tell you what they pay per gram for gold. A few will only tell you what they pay for amounts over 10 ounces! 10 ounces is a LOT of gold!
I did a lot of research and found the Silver and Gold Exchange. Not only do they pay much more than anyone else I could find... online or locally, but they also post the prices they pay for every form of gold and silver on their website via a live chart at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com
      Hope this helps.

  4. QUESTION:
Cash for my old gold.. do not want to mail it!!?
Would like to know where to get cash for my gold & silver broken or old jewlery. In Illinois, Wheaton, Naperville, Glen Ellyn area?? Any ideas..

    • ANSWER:
Call your local jewellry stores. Many will accept and pay by weight according to Karat. 24 Karat gold is pure gold, which is going for about 0 ounce today. As the Karat quality goes down, more copper, zinc and other metals are added. That's why pure gold is a very rich golden yellow color, and 18, 14, 12 and 8 Karat is paler.

  6. QUESTION:

  7. QUESTION:
I would like to cash in for my old gold chains.?
how much should i be selling it for ..in grams and euros please.

    • ANSWER:
      01/25/07 6 Troy Ounce (24K)
      14K is 58% gold 42% alloy
      do the math: 24 / 14 = 58
on retail chain of 00.00 you would receive not 58% of 00, 0.00, but an amount solely in the deterimation of the buyer, assuming your selling to a retail jeweler, could be as little as about 1/3 of the 0.00.
the reason: 1.it's not new merchandise and can't be inturn sold as such under nearly all governing laws.
      2. the jewelery store buyer doesn't need any more gold bought at wholesale prices...they have all they need already.
      3. the governing principle is "pay as little as possible"
      4. the buyer would (if honest about not selling used as new) would sell your gold chains to a refiner.
There are a number of sites that give the market price of gold Hoover & Strong is a seller of new gold to jewelers.
The price will, again, be set by the buyer, and my best advise is sell to a friend number one, a retail jeweler number 2, pawn number 3.
You were a retail customer buying your chains I assume so your buyer should be a retail customer (friend).
The exception to the above is if the items have historical signifgance, or are of such craftmanship as to make them truely "one of a kind".
It's doubtful that at the current almost 0 and oz price there is much gold buying being done at this level today as well.
      Good luck!

Those 'cash for gold 'by mail companies- are they a fraud? Has anyone used 'Cash4gold'?

    • ANSWER:
Many of them are pawn shops just posing as gold buyers.. you won't get maximum return. Cash4Gold and Goldkit are both legitimate gold and metal refiners, so no, they are not scams.

Where can i sell my old gold/diamonds??
does anyone know where i can sell my old gold/diamonds for cash? preferably in brampton, ontario? if not, then missisauga or toronto as my last resort??

    • ANSWER:
The Pawn shop! In all states they have one, if there isn't one in your state, that'd be weird. You can give them your gold/diamonds and they give you you're money and put it in their shop so other people can buy it! Also, you can give them anything else and they'll exchange it for money. For example, my local Pawn shop has everything from lawn mowers to TV sets to game systems! It's cool, but for most Pawn Shops, you have to be at least 18 to exchange your item for cash:P

  26. QUESTION:
Are old gold coins worth anything?
My boyfriend has a friend who gave him some old coins from the 1870's through 1908, five through twenty dollar gold coins are they worth anything? or what does someone suggest he does, we are trying to get the most cash for them, they have only been sitting in a box. And are wheat pennies worth keeping?

    • ANSWER:
The gold coins are worth at least their gold value. gold coins have just under an ounce of gold (at today's price, figure about 00), while gold coins have about 1/4 that amount. Depending on the date, mintmark, and condition, they could be worth much more, but someone like a coin dealer would need to take a look at them to tell you.

As for the wheat cents, they're worth at least three cents each for the copper in them. As a rule, anything from about the mid 40's on is only going to be worth the copper value if the coin has any wear on it at all.

  30. QUESTION:
Has anyone used one of these Cash for Gold places and got a good price?
I recently had a go at using cashmygold.com i have 3oz of 9kt Gold (Old bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, etc) according to the current market 9kt gold is £7.65 a gram. I sent this gold off recorded delivery and received a cheque for £42.65 which i was appalled with! I know they take charges and commission etc and i never expected to get a massive amount of gold but that was unreal! Two of the bracelets in there were equal to £280 retail! I know they give you the price based on weight but i thought it would be a better price than that. Has anyone used a similar company and got a pretty good price? Im keen to get as much cash for this gold as possible. I thought about a pawn broker but wasn't sure. Can anyone give any advice. Please no unhelpful answers or suggestions on what you do in America. British Citizens only who have had experience of this. Many thanks.
I recieved my gold back 21 days later by normal post in a jiffy bag, there was no fragile stamp or handle with care on the package! If it had gone missing it wouldn't have been insured, i read the small print of this company and they said if it went missing while technically in their possession you would not be re-imbursed and they can't be sued as you are liable for the gold! They're advert said if your not happy with the amount we give you. we'll send them back imediately?? I called them when they sent the cheque and said i wanted my gold back and they tried to coax me into taking the money by telling me my gold wasn't worth anything and that was the best price i would get.

Where can I sell my gold?
I have some old gold laying around the house and want some extra cash for it, but I don't want to send it in to some of the ones I see on TV because I hear there are a lot of them that scam people. Are there any safe ones out there?

    • ANSWER:
Don't send it in to Cash4gold, or goldkit, or goldpaq, or goldfellow, or any of those companies. I have been reading online and hear a bunch of stories about people getting scammed from all of the major ones. I found this new company that seems the most legitimate. It's called freegoldscale. they send you a free scale, they have an online calculator so you know what your gold is worth, and they ship with FedEx and insure it. I sent my gold into them, and it was a great experience. They also paid more than those other companies. They actually show their prices unlike some other companies. The ones that do show their prices, freegoldscale paid more. It was a great experience. I recommend them.

  40. QUESTION:
"Cash for Gold" How much should we be getting for...?
My mom and I are going to take some of our old jewelry into one of those cash for gold things. We just wanted to know roughly how much we should get for this stuff so we don't get screwed. We also have three gold dental fillings which are quite heavy. I know this isn't very specific but if someone could give us a guesstimation it would help :)
    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Not as much as you think.

Do yourself a favor and find a small pawn shop, or jeweler, in your area that advertises that they buy gold.

Take in gold, get estimate. Be shocked by how little scrap gold is worth.

Then, if you use a mail it in firm, make sure they do not have lots of complaints at the BBB online, AND make sure there is the option for you to return their check and get your stuff back.

      Good luck.

(personally, the little money that scrap gold will get you, most of us would be better off keeping it in case our monetary system collapses, but that is me)

  41. QUESTION:
How to sell scrap gold in Highlands Ranch Colorado?
I live in Highlands Ranch Colorado, 20 miles south of Denver and Littleton. I have a few old gold rings and some broken 14kt gold necklaces that I would like to sell. I have tried craig's list but only seem to get weird people calling me from pawn shops that want me to take my gold down to Denver to sell it for half of melt value. I was thinking about sending the scrap gold to that CASH 4 GOLD business that I saw on late night TV but when I read the on line reviews NO one had any thing nice to say about their business. Other refiners seem to have a ounce or two minimum for shipping and still charge 10% and send you a check in about two weeks. There is a Hotel Gold Buyer in town this week end and they have bad on-line review as well. Is there a local jewelry shop that would pay cash on the spot and not charge me 50% commission. What is a fair commission when I sell my gold? Please respond with usual percent of commissions or refining charge. Or if you know of a trusted gold refiner if I have to mail my GOLD, Thanks for your responses.

    • ANSWER:
I have checked into the Cash4Gold and it look like a big scam! The local pawn shop is only a good place to sell your gold if you need cash today and you don't mind getting 50% of value. I have sold a few things on Craig's list but people want you to give way your gold and jewelry because they think you are desperate for cash. found https://sites.google.com/site/goldsilverplatinumcoppermetals/ website looking for some one to by my gold coin because I don't want to pawn it or go to some crap hotel and get offered half of what it is worth. Check out that link and see if that guy is willing to give you a fair deal. Sound like he is Highlands Ranch Colorado just south of Littleton and Centennial I think it is very honest he explains his commission.

    • ANSWER:
You're asking for your account to get screwed over.

It depends on what game stop you go to. I got a good amount of money for my trade-ins. If you don't use the games anymore they it would be a good idea to just trade them in or if you think you could get more, try selling them on ebay or to your friends.

  44. QUESTION:
Where is a reputable place to turn in used gold?
I have many assorted bits and pieces of old jewlery, gold teeth, etc that I would like to turn in for cash. Thank you for any information.

    • ANSWER:
Check with pawn shops. Another option would be to check with some metal fabrication companies, like Hoover and Strong or Rio Grande. I'm not sure if they'll take stuff like what you have, but I know they take scrap precious metals (even metal dust!), so it would definitely be worth a try.
Sorry I don't know how to do links, but here are their sites:
      www.hooverandstrong.com
www.riogrande.com (you can also reach them by phone 1-800-545-6566)

  45. QUESTION:
how old do i have to be to get cash for gold?
im 19 and i also want to know if i can take it to any jewlery store

    • ANSWER:
If you are an adult (depending on your local laws), then you can make any legal transaction. Most jewelry stores will buy gold, but at a reduced price since they are in the business to make a profit from the transaction. You may do better selling it privately, but that means a lot of work finding the right person, and staying safe. Ask at a few shops, see if you get what you want for it.

  46. QUESTION:
is there any way you can sell old coins by mail like you can sell gold for example cash 4 gold?

    • ANSWER:
No, a coins value is determined by its grade as well as rarity so the coin has to be seen. A scan or photo can be deceiving. It is also not wise to send in gold without knowing the value, before sending it. One can no longer takes a persons word for it.

  47. QUESTION:
    This is tricky, someone help!?
Okay about a year or so ago my aunt gave me her old gold because she didn't want it anymore. I told her I don't really want it but she said take it. She is a hard core drunk. I took the old gold to cash for gold and sold those items she gave me. She moved into an apartment about the same time I did with my mom. She drinks so much she never unpack still to this day she hasn't unpacked. Anyways she has a few things missing in which she gave me that I sold when she said it was okay. On top of that the other stuff missing I don't know what happen since when she drinks she throws her stuff everywhere and doesn't remember a thing the next day. We got into a fight and now she wants everything back but she knew I sold it. What can happen? This story is a mess lol.
Thank you !! Yeah she thinks I took it. Shes just a drunk but I didn't know if she can call the police or what not but she gave me the items so I didn't know

"Cash for Gold?" How much cash?
My mom and I are going to take some of our old jewelry into one of those cash for gold things. We just wanted to know roughly how much we should get for this stuff so we don't get screwed. We also have three gold dental fillings which are quite heavy. I know this isn't very specific but if someone could give us a guesstimation it would help :)
    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
i'll guess they'll give you 1/10 the worth in real gold. but they have to mess with it weighing and analysing, then purifying and marketing. but u get a check for stuff u don't want anymore.

  50. QUESTION:
TAG HEUER WATCH can I get some money for it ?
Hi I have a TAG watch its about 10 years old and needs a new Battery. It is stainless steel with a white face and it looks almost new. Is it worth anything if I bring it to a Jeweler to buy ? I really need some cash and I forgot I had this while gathering old gold. Thanks for your help.

    • ANSWER:
I don't know what cash4gold will pay. I do know from my past experience, that I sent them a scrap jewelry ring and they paid me .26. I rejected the offer and they returned my ring promptly. I then found another company, www.captaincashforgold.com that paid me 3 for the same ring!! and they enclosed a track able Fedex pack along with 0 insurance as opposed to some crappy envelope from cash4gold that you cant even track.
