     If you are a gold miner you would already know the answers to these questions. So I am assuming that you are a want to be gold miner. First get your metal. this might require a great deal of capital(MILLIONS) if shaft mining, or a little if dredging or dry blowing. Once you have your ore concentrates (about 80 - 95%) the easiest thing to do is send it to a refiner (eg. Kitco, Perth mint, etc.) they will refine and also buy your gold. .

     There's a recession on so firms are trying to buy gold whilst it's cheap as people need money. The firms know that it will go up in price again in a year or two.

     NO, it would have to go in your safe deposit box. If stolen, you would have to be covered by homeowner's insurance because the bank is not liable..

     well they are paying about 10%-25% of what its worth. Most of the time they're looking to melt it down and either rework it or sell it as bullion.

     just take it to any bank they will cash it in for ya , it must be heavy carrying it around

    How and where do you get the best price for broken gold jewelry?
    I have several broken gold chains, bracelets, dental gold, and mismatched earrings and would like to get cash for the gold. I know I could take it to a pawn broker, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to turn the gold into cash. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
      If you choose to sell your gold as scrap, please do not use one of the outfits that advertise on TV--they will not give you the best price because they are marketing their services to the general public and not to in-the-trade individuals who are more knowledgeable.

      Send your gold to a reputable refiner. There are several who offer refining services to the jewelry, dental, etc. industries and that is where you would get the fairest shake for your scrap.

      I've used David H. Fell & Co. in Los Angeles for years. They are a very reputable company with a good history and a well set-up refining service. See the link below.

      If you sold your scrap gold to a jeweler, they would turn around and submit it to just such a refiner. A reputable jeweler would not reuse your gold because he would not be able to determine that it was within the legal variance limits of the karat value it was represented/hallmarked as. He would instead turn it into a refiner either for money or on account to be reimbursed with newly refined gold. Obviously, the price the jeweler would pay you would be less than what he received from the refiner.

    I found a unique website called www.cashkit4gold.com where they seem to being paying top dollar for all gold and unwanted jewelry. I know Gold futures rose Wednesday for the first time in 3 days.

    It seems like it's a smart time to sell and cash in. Only being the second day in April, Gold is now at 5.80 an ounce. Is now the time to sell? The website cashkit4gold.com states “CashKit4Gold.com will buy all unwanted gold jewelry. Since we only buy scrap gold over the internet, our overhead is very low compared to refineries. Use the CashKit to turn your gold into cash.”

      You are better off finding a gold refiner in your area, thereby eliminating the middleman.

    Having gold coins from anywhere in the world.Would you be able to convert it into US dollars in cash?
    For an example I have 2 pounds of Australian gold coins would I be able to cash it in for ,000USD?

    If so where would i need to go to have that done?i.e some type of bank?

      Every city has businesses that pay cash for gold. Start with the firms that advertise that they buy metals. If the price for gold is 0 per ounce, they will pay you 0 per ounce. Banks seldom offer this..

      Most online gold buyers REFUSE to tell you what they pay per gram for gold. A few will only tell you what they pay for amounts over 10 ounces! 10 ounces is a LOT of gold!
      I did a lot of research and found the Silver and Gold Exchange. Not only do they pay much more than anyone else I could find... online or locally, but they also post the prices they pay for every form of gold and silver on their website via a live chart at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com

    Gaia Online-Question about Gaia Cash and Gaia Gold?
    I want to spend money to buy gaia cash so I can buy items that I can sell for Gaia gold. Specifically, gold gold revolution spins. I heard that if you buy it with paypal, your stuff is refrozen so you can't sell it for 7 days. What's the quickest way to convert cash into gaia gold? Is the freezing thing the same if i buy it with credit card?

      Lol no it doesnt freeze with paypal or credit card, Ive bought gold both ways to do the exact same thing Ive never had a problem. Ive never heard of that happening. Kind of odd. But yeah anyway, best way to go is aquarium things, expecially the blue coral which sells for like 250 gold per cash. or to get the GGR 12 pack, thats a really good deal too. Hope that helped. Oh and cash cards are another great way, you can get them pretty much anywhere now, CVS, Rite-aid, Wal-mart....pretty much everywhere.

      Not as much as you think.

      Do yourself a favor and find a small pawn shop, or jeweler, in your area that advertises that they buy gold.

      Take in gold, get estimate. Be shocked by how little scrap gold is worth.

      Then, if you use a mail it in firm, make sure they do not have lots of complaints at the BBB online, AND make sure there is the option for you to return their check and get your stuff back.

      the diffrence is that gaia gold you can use in any shop but not the gaiacash shop or watever the name is the gaia cash shop has the evolving items and stuff and if you want to order things go to the gaia store and order things thru paypal or credit card and you cant convert gaia gold into gaia cash

      Gaia doesn't have a way to exchange gaia cash yet. Your best bet would be to buy something, such as an evolving item from the cash shop, and sell it on the MP for gold. Make sure to get something that sells for a high enough price.

19. QUESTION:
    What percentage of my portfolio should go into Gold and other precious metals? Gold ETF?
    I want gold in my portfolio but I manage it from my IRA. Is investing in a gold ETF a good option? In this economic climate and with inflationary fears I'd like to move 25%-30% of my IRA into a gold ETF. On the other hand, a Gold ETF is trade-able for nothing but cash in the event of monetary failure? So does this negate the point?

      The sage advise is to own 2%, but not more than 5% in gold.
      Better than gold in the long run is small cap stocks.

20. QUESTION:
    Can you convert Credit into cash using a Money Order?
    I have an American express gold card. I am not familiar with money orders. Is it possible for me to create a money order addressed to my roommate using my American Express Gold card as payment, and then cash the money order at the bank and receive cash back?

    • ANSWER:
      If you find someplace that will sell you a money order using your credit card as payment, I suspect the transaction would be processed as a cash advance and subject to the cash advance fee of 3% to 5%, depending on your card terms. It would also begin to immediately accrue interest at the higher cash rate.

      Instead of going thru all the drama of buying a money order and then cashing it, why not just go to the bank and take a cash advance directly from the credit card. You will end up with the same fees and interest rate.

    Where to sell Silver and Gold coins for CASH money!!?

      My friend sold a bunch of her silver, gold and platinum. I don't know what the best thing to do in your situation is.
      My friend compared of online places, and she found one she really liked. It is a member of the BBB, featured in USA Today, and has a great reputation.       i'll guess they'll give you 1/10 the worth in real gold. but they have to mess with it weighing and analysing, then purifying and marketing. but u get a check for stuff u don't want anymore.

I agree reluctantly so long as its a cockerel 'cos I know someone who is so desperate for a cockerel that he will a give a goat for it. In simple terms you sell assets for cash! It's always been that way

      As long as your retirement funds are earning you more interest then the inflation rate then you have nothing to worry about. Do not worry about the stock market because our economy always had its ups and downs so it will go back up. The only people who need to worry are those who need the money within the next 10 years. This is an awesome time for retirement funds because you can buy stocks on solid companies for cheap.

      The song you are thinking of is simply called "Gold" and is performed by John Stewart and Stevie Nicks. It was recorded in the mid 70's, I believe. The line you are thinking of is "there's people out there turning music into gold."

    Is gold a good thing to invest money into considering the whole situation with one world currency?
    well, you may say it's not gonna happen, but i believe that one world currency is gonna come into play and destroy the US dollar. So is gold a good thing to have as an alternative to cash or digits in the bank?

      If you knew it was gonna happen, why not just convert your dollars to the one world currency??? Gold is at an all time high, so I think it's a bad investment. Buy low & sell high. Not vis-versa. And I say this as someone who has half a dozen (gold) Krugerrands, and 100+ morgan silver dollars in his safety deposit box.

      The Europeans are seeing the problems with one currency. Notice the Brits didn't go to the Euro?? Not a chance in hell of there being one currency. I could go on, but I know you don't want to hear it.

    Has anyone else been scammed from the Cash 4 Gold people?
    We sent them a bag with 16.9 grams of broken gold jewelry and they say they never got it. I find that hard to believe since we took the package into post office ourselves. Just wondering if that has happened to anyone else.

      Even if it is a scam, looks like this one is on you. Always mail anything important with tracking and delivery confirmation/signature.

      I'd take it to a couple local pawn shops to get quotes first.

      You also need to know gold karats and weight. Then call the 'cash for gold' places and ask them for their 'spot purchase price' for gold (how much they will pay per karat.)

      I don't know, but when I checked around, the best place for me to sell was a local coin shop.

      You are close to correct. The "real" ones pay about 10 cents per hour. The others are worse. The entire concept of making money via online jobs and surveys is a myth.

      One hour on a college work-study job would net you more than a month of surveys.

    What should I do with unwanted gold jewelry?
    Including items that are broken or damaged? Is it better to sell the gold for cash or have it fashioned into a new piece of jewelry?

      You certainly could attempt to sell the items to a jeweler and reap some cash back on that transaction. However, I think it would be nice to have the gold melted down and fashioned into a new piece for yourself.. perhaps a nugget charm or a nice signet ring. Depending on what you are having melted, the jeweler can tell you what can be created. Also, since you are providing the gold, the cost of fashioning a new item should be minimal. Be aware though, you should take it to an upstanding jeweler.. perhaps one that your family has used for sometime.

    I HAVE GOLD ROCKS HOW DO I TURN THEM TO CASH?
    I recently lost my property that has been in the family since 1948. My mother and father both were rock collectors. While clearing off the property a friend noticed gold in some of my rocks. I had one assayed and found that that besides gold there was platinum. copper and silver besides gold. So I crushed the rock up and ran a magnet through the crushed rock and I figure what I have left is precious metals. Now my problem is turning it into cash. I live in LasVegas Nevada and as I understand I can not take it to a refinery because I do not have a mining license. Does anyone know what I can do to turn my crushed and magnetized rock into cash?

      The pre-crushed rock would have been perhaps very valuable to rock collectors and dealers, I know there are lots in the Las Vegas area.
      At this point your best best is to take the remains to a rock dealer and hope that there are some fragments that might still be valuable to a collector.
      Once a piece of ore leaves a mining operation, its only place is on a rock collector's shelf.
      ***IMPORTANT: The rest of their collection may also be of interest to a rock dealer. If there are lots of rocks and some nice looking ones, too, then have a dealer take a look at it***

    Are Presidential Gold Coins Worth Buying?
    I've heard that the price of gold is really high now and that owning gold is better than cash. I don't want to buy gold jewlery that I won't wear so i was looking into gold coin collections like presidential coins. Am i thinking right or is jewlery the way to go?

      I disagree. Collecting gold coins will increase in value over time. The united states mint for example has just released a One-Half Ounce Margaret Taylor Gold Proof Coin. This coin is part of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program that honors the wives of the presidents of the united states.

      I am a collector of gold coins and rarities and i guess i do it more for a hobby but want to turn everything over to my grand-kids some day. Think about it.

      Buy Krugerrands for a low frills cost-efficient gold investment. [do you see the future of gold prices escalating drastically, or falling drastically?]

    Is it wise to invest in gold?
    I want to save for my future. I often wonder how much the national currencies tend to fluctuate, and therefore began wondering about gold: Is it a better option than just stuffing cash into the bank? Pros and cons?       I'm not a big fan of gold as an investment. Although it is a "steady" index, as opposed to currency, gold just does not appreciate at the same rate as the S&P, mutual funds, etc.
      That being said, if you STILL want to invest in gold, I would suggest no more than 10 percent of your portfolio contain gold.
      You may hear the old adage "An ounce of gold in 1880 could buy a good man's suit, and in 2007 an ounce of gold can buy a good man's suit." By this logic, the an ounce of gold you buy now, in 40 years, will be able to buy you a ....good suit. Whoo hoo.
      No imagine if you took the money you would have invested in gold and invested it in an S&P 500 index. The historical return on the S&P is great!
      The emerging stock markets, e.g. China and India are going to be the next big players. I'm a betting man, and I'm betting on them to come through for me.

    even though Im not looking to sell to these places Im curious, what do these places do with the gold people sell to them? Is this a franchise that can be bought into?

      Scrap gold eventually winds up getting melted down and use in electronics, jewelry, whatever. Gold conducts electricity well, and is used in circuit boards of computers, transmitters, cell phones, etc.

      Cash for gold is a RIP OFF. So is Pawn Amercica. I had some junk jewelry, and I got dollars where I cashed it in. Pawn America offered me only for the same stuff.

    Is that better than a CD? Is it more recession or depression proof? Will the US dollar become totally worthless, even if a person has millions in cash?

      The people who warn you that you would be buying at the top of the market don't know how high it will go. Do you have a safe at home?
      Safety deposit boxes are fine, but if the bank is closed, or the government decides to confiscate all gold, you are stuck.

      The value of platinum, gold & silver can go up and down, but they will never be as worthless as the dollar.

    Royal Mint - Gold V Cash on the street...what about lost money?
    Hi all
    I know that the amount of money printed is equal to the gold bullion in the banks BUT say for arguments sake 1 million gold = £1million cash printed out on the streets.....does it take into about the amount of money lost over the years? (Eg binned by accident, washed in the machine etc...)

    Also is this just the rule for the UK? I live in the UK but usually have dollars on me due to wherever I travel takes dollars so I never change it back up....so does that mean that the US economy are missing my dollars? (Dont worry America I can never stay away too long!)

      A country's currency is generally regarded as being backed by its gold and foreign currency reserves (FCR). For most countries, gold makes up a very small proportion compared with FCR.

      As for currency in circulation, this is only a small proportion of a country's worth, so the amounts which get lost or never used again form a small part of a small part. Not worth taking into account.

      You can sell your jewelry to Fabrikant Fine Diamonds in New York’s Diamond District. They are fourth generation jewelers with staff trained from Gemological Institute of America. You can even mail your jewelry to them if you can’t visit them in person. And they won’t disappoint you.

    If I found a large raw deposit of precious metals, how do I turn into cash?
    I live in Atlanta and developing a way to find natural elements of earth and wanted to know if I had gold, silver, rhodium or something valued....is there a place that buys raw ore for cash, not jewery, but ore. I'd prefer it near Atlanta, GA.

      A few options I could think of off hand are geological stores that may have some insight; the website SteelSells.com might be able to answer some questions - they also buy and sell direct online; your local Atlanta Chamber of Commerce will have a directory of local chapters interested in this field. Other than that, you could see if the University has a Metallurgist on campus or a Geologist. Then there's always a geologist on site at National Parks, or usually. We have them where I live. The best I would think would be the Chamber of Commerce though. They can give you a great route. You can also try the local Museum. Their curator may help.

    Where to put cash in these turbulent markets?
    So they say to stay out of the stock markets with volatility at all time highs. Subprime has infected everything from mortgage brokers to investment banks, down to the local county bank. Where can one protect their cash in times where you don't even know which financial institution is the next to go under? The FDIC insures up to 0K per bank, but it's not feasible to move money into many different banks. Should I buy something to ensure the safety of my cash (ie T-bills, gold, etc.)? My money is with Citibank, who probably won't go under, but I would still like to reduce my risk during these times if possible. There must be others who sold homes at the peak and are sitting with a few hundred K in cash somewhere. What are you doing to ensure you don't lose it to your bank going under?

      If you would like to truly reduce your risk, the safest thing to do would be to open up single CD's at different banks. It appears that you are much more conservative in that regard, so I would advise spending the leg work to set up those accounts with the various local banks in your area to get the most protection.

      There aren't a lot of financial institutions "going under" as you say. It is true that the subprime market has pinched liquidity and forced a lot of companies out of business, but these our companies that were mostly speculative in that they were borrowing money to run their organizations and couldn't support the monthly nut to begin with. A bank that is not involved in the subprime market will still be affected, but with minimal risk of "going under".

    My real question is where does all the gold in teeth go when dead people are cremated? Does it all just melt down and into the ashes, or do the morticians pull the teeth and cash in on a gold mine?

      The teeth most certainly are NOT removed. A gold mine? I somehow doubt the gold that is in a tooth is that valuable, and not only is that disgusting and unethical, but how much do you REALLY think that gold could be worth? Not enough to warrant the tedious task of actually removing a tooth should one be tempted to do so. Give us a little more credit, for the most part we are all respectable, compassionate people.
      After the cremation (and the gold has indeed melted) a large magnet is swept over the ashes to collect any metal bits. The reason for this is because the body is not reduced simply to ash, there are large bone fragments that remain and must be processed in a pulverizer to make them a uniform consistency. Therefore, the above answer is incorrect, you could NOT sift through and see gold bits, they wouldn't be there in the first place because they would damage the pulverizor.

He started to look for loans and found one company that would loan him a couple million. The return from this gold mine is well into the hundreds of millions. However, the company has not loaned him anything. They responded a year ago saying they would and they have not. What should he do now? Where can he find some loans?

      If the mine is producing gold, then sell forward to finance more production. What data has been obtained? How much gold is in the mine? What are the grades? Have you got a bankable feasability report? I think the world bank will lend money.Where is the mine?

      I have to agree that this could easily turn into a scam. I am a jeweler and constantly ask the same question as you. When I have scrap gold and dust I turn it into a refinery, they melt it down and give me an approximate weight after charging for the services.

      I think that you should weigh your gold, DO remove any stones and functioning locks, those are more expensive than regular gold as all mechanisms in it are made of gold, then ask what their selling price to you per gram would be and what the cost of refining would be. The buying cost of godl right now is around 0, make sure that their price is close to that, within an ounce before the refining cost. If not, it is not worth it and give it to your kids.
