     That's the theoretical value. You will get less than that, profit, refinery fees, etc.

     Best bet is to try a local coin shop. You will not get spot price as the shop cannot resell immediately at spot. My guess is that .50 under spot is about the best you can expect.

     After shipping and insurance cost, I doubt that you would do better on ebay (or elsewhere). Better to get paid right away if you like today's price.

     While all the answers so far are good (with the possible exception of Steve Erkel, hopefully), you should definitely make a trip to all of them and see who is giving the best price. Also look for people who make custom jewelry. They may give a slightly higher price than someone who is going to buy it and sell it for a profit to someone else who is hoping to make a profit. Remember that most coins are not the 99.99% silver ones, and the extra non-silver component is not generally paid for.

     If you can melt them and make silver bullets, maybe there is a market for that...

      Go onto Ebay and look other spoons of the same grade and age and see what they are selling for, or go to a dealer you feel you can trust and ask for a valuation. Rember the cost of silver is rising like gold, so don't be talked into parting with them until you're absolutely sure you're getting the best deal.

      My friend compared of online places, and she found one she really liked. It is a member of the BBB, featured in USA Today, and has a great reputation.     No experience selling silver bullion, I want to sell but how much to ask?
    I've run into some money problems and I've collected Silver Bullion for times like these. I've decided to sell 60 silver rounds and I want to sell them to someone local (a dealer maybe), I called one dealer and he asked me "how much do you want to sell them for?" I told him I'd like Spot (market) price. He said he'd buy them for market price. I was wondering if anyone with more experience selling silver bullion knows if I made a mistake saying market price? should I have said a premium say of a dollar over market price? I have no experience selling silver.

      you sell for spot and he resells at a premium because of the designs on the things or he buys at spot, holds it, and then resells at spot.

    Where can you SELL silver at actual spot price? Coin dealers will sell but when the price goes up (say 4xs) ?
    coin dealers are willing to sell you Silver Eagles at when spot is but if spot goes to 0 where are you going to sell them? i overheard the coin dealer offering to buy a Eagle at when spot was .       Large dealers are brokers. They turn a profit by trading, just like a stockbroker. They will buy at spot less commission to have inventory to sell at spot plus commission. No inventory, no commission. ALWAYS take possession yourself of your coins and use your own vault, safe deposit box, etc. Years ago a bullion broker charged to store the gold for people and sold it in a ponzi type scheme. People lost everything.

      Once you go through these pieces, you can put a price on the items you have individually, and then add them up, once added up, reduce 10 to 20 % off it and put the price on ebay.

    How is profit made on selling silver tableware to a refinery treated for tax purposes?
    Purchased silver flatware and holloware (mostly dented) for the purpose of reselling to a refinery as scrap silver to make a profit.

    Most of the pieces were purchased 1-2 years ago; a few within the last year. However, it was refined in one batch with one payout.

    Would that profit be treated as ordinary income or capital gain? What are the tax rates?

    If capital gain, how would I separate the profit (payout minus basis) into long term and short term gain since it was refined in one big batch with one payout?

      How much money are we talking here? Is this a profitable endeavor

      Capital gain. the items you purchased more than a year before selllng are long term. and those that you bought less than a year before selling are short term.
      you will enter your purchase date and $ paid for it. Then you enter sales date, which will be same for all entries since you sold all at one time. Do you know the weights of each purchase? You would prorate the total price recieved in the sale by the % of weight that each purchase represents.

      but considering its 3rd gen i'd say start the bidding at around - unless its 4gb of memory then start the bidding and around people that want it will bid higher

      You can get a type of 'sticker' that is just like a mirror. you could stick that up all over it.

      In general it will be more than 150 bucks. Let’s say you sell each game for 10 bucks, 20 games will be for 200 bucks. In addition, the movie for 20 bucks and you will have 220 bucks. The PlayStation itself should be for 100 bucks and up. Your friend should give you more than 150 bucks because you will lose lot of money.

      You can sell your bars at any time. All you have to do is either take them into a dealer or send them to an online dealer. But you are missing the point of silver and gold buying. Silver and gold are not investments.

      Gold and silver is money and a store of value. It is the "Currency of last resort" as Greenspan has stated many times through the years. Gold doesnt pay interest, dividends, doesnt restate earnings, has no lawyers, accountants, CEOs or CFOs lying to you on television. Gold doesnt ask for bailouts, doesnt go Bankrupt and cannot cook its books. Gold cant be debased or printed at the will of a company or governmetnt and holds its purchasing power.

      Gold sits there as a store of value, is labor intensive, and a one ounce coin will not split into a bunch of half ounce coins at the direction of the "Pin Striped Bandits" on Wall Street. Also Gold is the ONLY asset class in the last ten years to increase in value and retain every dollar of its purchasing power.

      Can gold go down? Yes. However that would mean that all essential goods and services must fall as well. Gold is and acts more like an insurance policy.       Then go to a online music store like wwbw.com and see what the price is for a new one. Then reduce the price based on age.

      With this knowledge go to a local music store and see if they'll buy it or sell it on consignment. It's like a used car, if your not trading it in they won't give you much. So, it would be better to sell it on consignment. At least you'll get a good idea what it's worth. You can also take this information and advertise it in your local paper, send a flyer to local school band directors, or ebay.

      If you can't find a comp for it on ebay, just decide how much you will take for it and sell it that way. The market will decide the price for you, if you get no hits on it then your price is too high.

      Coin dealers are not paying a reasonable price? The ones around here (San Diego) pay about 90% of spot price. Since they usually sell for .00 or so over spot, that isn't that much of a profit margin. I don't think you will do much better unless you are selling to a private party.

      Depending on it's condition I'd say anywhere from (if it's in bad condition) up to 0 (if it's almost new). As for the games, I would sell each anywhere from -. And you can mix up games with the DS for like a combo but you'll wanna make a deal with the customer on the price.

      It's very doubtful that the games will ALL sell if the DS is taken. You'll wanna do your best to sell them all together to one person if you can.

      The L 5 millennium coin can be worth more than its scrap value if its in demand. Honestly the best way to start is to go to ebay and see if you can find one for sale. follow the sale and see what the final price is. Do that five or six times and take an average of the price and that will be a good estimate. A good coin collector store should also be able to give you an estimate of the market value, they however pay less because they need to turn around and sell it at market in order to make money. The best price comes from selling it directly to a collector.

    I am getting into investing into silver bullion/rounds. Today silver closed at .01. I saw today APMEX.com was selling 1oz silver rounds for .66. A mere $.65 cents over SPOT. While browsing products I noticed that they were also selling silver coins for: .17 per 1oz.. because there were "Off Quality, Cull, Damaged, Cleaned, Polished, etc!". Regardless of this, they're sill 1oz of pure silver. How is it they sell these for .84 cents cheaper than the price of silver?? no matter what the quality, isn't it sill silver?? I don't understand this. If anyone chould shed some light, I'd be more than thrilled to know why.

      The price of silver is only an indication of a component of value beyond the face denomination. You need to see a coin dealer (or more) or perhaps try an online auction like ebay.

      Besides, if I gave you the market price it will have changed before the information is posted at my source. The markets are an ongoing thing and prices flop all over the place.

      Easiest thing is to find a local coin dealer, and ask what they're paying for "junk" silver. They'll probably tell you something like "22 times face value". Then, all you have to do is figure the face value of the silver, multiply by (in this case) 22, and you know how much you'll get for the silver. However, if you have some better priced coins, you'll want to sell those separately from the junk silver.

      The Buffs and any non silver are a little harder to figure, because their value is going to depend on the year, the condition, and where they were minted. As a rule with the Buffaloes, if the date is worn off (a common problem) a dealer will probably give you $.15 to $.20 each for them.

      Really, the easiest way is to sell them to a dealer. No fees, and no waiting for your money. Walk in with coins, walk out with cash.

    I have a silver morgan one dollar coin. I was wondering how much I could get from it at a pawn shop? Its in good condition (from what I see) it has a golden shine to it.
    It's a 1921. I have no clue about the tarnish or whatever. I found it when I was cleaning my father's house after he passed. Did some research and found out it was a morgan silver dollar.
    It also has a VERY small "S" beneath the wreath on the back. Not sure if that means anything or not.

      Most Morgans are very common and are often worth little more than the silver melt value if they are in average shape. Your 1921 S is worth -20, maybe a bit more if condition is outstanding, i.e lots of luster, extremely minor wear, etc. But of course it would be worth more if it was in high uncirculated condition, say MS-60 or above. The S mint mark means it was coined in San Francisco

    They are in pretty good shape and there are many different kinds like trays, candleholders, plates, and many more. So if I wanted to sell them at a yard sale what should the price be?

      Are they just silver toned, or are they silver plated? Either way, you should be able to get more than each for them if they are in good condition. If they are silver plated, then you should be able to get quite a bit more. It really depends on what people are willing to pay where you live. You can always stick a price on there a little higher than what you think you may get, and then tell anyone who looks at the items to make you an offer if they think the price is too high. That way, it's up to you to accept the offer or not.

      The answer depends on what you have.

      Coins or bars - coin dealer. Local for small amounts. Consider a company like Apmex for larger amounts.

      Jewelry - jewelry shop. Jewelry has such huge price markups that it is could be worth more as jewelry than for silver content alone.

      silverware, candlesticks, etc. - Ebay, pawn shop, some coin dealers will trade in this.

    Does anyone know a good way to clean copper??
    I know there is a product on the market that sells silver polish etc. in small tins and I have one of those for copper and it works when its new but by the time I need it again it's either too old or impossible to shake up. Is there something else that I could use? I know that toothpaste is pretty good for small silver items.but how about copper? Thanks

    Is It Better To Buy The Actual Silver Bullion or Silver Stocks on the Stock Market?
    Hi,...
    I'm very New to all of this but the last time that I tried to buy Stocks in anything the people that I called wanted me to invest at the least ,500 on up to ,000 at one time and at that time I didnt have that kind of money to take that kind of risk with.

    I dont know how it works today with you being able to buy Stocks over the internet as easily as you can and from my research I dont think that you can buy "Silver" as it is and that you have to invest in to a company that deals with Silver if I understood that correctly.

    So is it better to just go out and search for who ever is selling Silver Bullion the Cheapest and Buy as much as you can afford to at that time and have the Silver Bullion directly in your hands or is it better to try and find a company that deals with Silver and Invest in to that company?

    What about the cost of having to deal with a Broker or Fee's that you have to deal with when your dealing with Stocks?

    If there is someone out that that can help me and get me pointed in the right direction and possibly help me understand some of the things that I dont understand as far as actually buying Silver Stock,... I would very much appreciate your help friend.

      Buying silver through a brokerage firm has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, you can sell it really quickly, if you need to. And you don't have to worry that thieves will break in and steal your silver. However, your brokerage firm is required by law to report trading activity to the IRS, so if silver goes up 2500% and you sell it, the IRS is going to know exactly how much money you made. And you do not know what the capital gains tax will be in the future. So, it's a gamble. LOL

      If you buy the actual metal silver, the IRS has no idea how much you made on the silver trade. But the disadvantage of buying silver is that someone might break into your house to steal your safe. You have to guard your house. When you buy actual silver coins, you are paying a little bit more, that's true. Coins are ALWAYS more expensive than raw silver--regardless of whether you're trying to buy them or sell them. Of course, the coin traders will make a little commission both when you buy and when you sell it back to them. The commission usually depends on how much you buy. If you buy or sell a larger quantity at one time, you'll pay SMALLER commission! The IRS works the opposite way: When you sell a lot of silver and you make a huge profit, you may find yourself in a higher tax bracket, and you'll pay more $$$ to Uncle Sam. If you sell little silver at small profit, you'll pay less.

      I myself have bought actual silver coins. And you'll have to shop around, because I have found that silver traders charge very different commissions. Some traders are trying to make a lot of money on each sale, and some of them only make a little.

      If there would be chaos and the value of dollars would go down to virtually zero, we might be able to use the coins to buy stuff. So, I think, it's a good idea to stock up on coins.

      Having said that, there are new funds that play with options to give you twice the return of the metal silver! So, if you open a brokerage account, you could buy AGQ, which is the double silver fund. When silver goes up 1%, AGQ goes up 2%. I do not know how long this fund is going to be around, but it is a very good thing.

      Also, GOLD has a double ETF as well -- DGP. So, if the price of gold goes up 1%, DGP goes up 2%. If you happen to buy these high performance funds at the wrong time, your money will fall at a much faster rate than if you had bought GLD or SLV. So, be careful.

      A reputable local pawn shop would be your best bet.
      A call to the police station might get you a name.
      Also local coin dealers. You might check the Better Business Bureau before contacting either of them.

      eBay is filled with sellers who haven't researched the item they're selling so they either over-price the item or, of course, under-price the item.

      check out the vendors at www.tias.com or www.rubylane.com. Www.goantiques.com is good too, to get a better idea of what your collection is worth.

      Check out the reference books in some of the brick/mortar stores in your area (they are behind the counter in most cases).
