Is cash for Gold Real or is it a scam?
The cash for gold industry is booming. You heard about it, it's all over the TV, the radio, the news paper; people are even having gold buying parties. Now it's even on the internet!
You know how it works, right?
You gather up your jewelry that you no longer have a use for, broken jewelry, missing the matching piece or jewelry that you just don't plan on ever wearing again and you take it to a gold buyer and they determine the value and offer you cash for your gold.
Most of the gold buyers have free information kits that will instruct you about how the process works and what steps you need to take to accomplish a deal. You can get a free kit at http://www.goldusainc.com
The kit will be sent to your home and it will include a protective bag for you to ship your jewelry off for an appraisal.
Once the appraisal is complete, someone will send you a check for your gold.
At this point you need to decide whether to accept the offer or turn the offer down and have your jewelry returned to you. If you accept the offer the company will send you out your cash. If you decline the offer the company will return your jewelry, and a good company will cover the cost of shipping it back to you.
So even if you are just curious to see what a piece of jewelry you own is worth there really is no risk in sending it off for an evaluation and appraisal, you might be pleasantly surprised.
In conclusion I'd like to point out one important point about this business. There are scams out there so you need to educate yourself. I found a gold buyer online that has lengthy of information about the scams, the gold buying process, and they answered all my questions. If you are looking to get some cash for gold then I would recommend you check out the website of http://goldusainc.com. They will take good care of you.

QUESTION:
Is cash for gold a scam? Are we really getting the truth?
The value of the american dollar WILL dramatically decrease. The only people left that will be able to survive buying food and other things will be those who have accumilated gold and silver. IF this is the truth, doesn't it make sense that the company cash4gold will willingly spend money to buy gold and silvers off of you?-
ANSWER:
It's not necessarily a scam, but more of a complete rip-off. I agree with some of the other contributors about the limited payout to you in order for the gold buyer to then sell for a considerable profit. I would not trust selling gold or jewelry online - it's always best to have it appraised and then sold at separate venues.Check out cashforgoldscams.com for more information on this specific type of 'scam'. Also, check out GetPayback.com for recent claims that consumers have posted to help warn the public about other scammers and rip-offs. If you have a scam to report you should file a free claim with them and warn the public and get payback against malicious companies or businesses.
good luck!

QUESTION:
Is the "Cash for Gold" thing a scam?
I see those commercials for "Cash 4 Gold" all the time, and I'm curious as to whether or not it's a scam. Anybody know?-
ANSWER:
It's not a rip off, they will send you a check, but it won't be any more money than one of your local pawn shops, and probably a little less. Your best bet is to take it to 3 seperate buyers and see who offers you the most money. There was a difference on the same jewelry on the same day when I sold some extra I had.

QUESTION:
Is Cash for Gold really a scam?
Ok, I hear so many people talking about how much of a rip off Cash for Gold is, and I understand how anyone can jump to that conclusion. But think for a moment of how much somebody’s UNWANTED gold is worth just sitting in a dresser somewhere. I mean, if you have some gold chains that you bought back in the early 80s that you haven’t worn in over a decade, why is leaving them in your drawer worth more than cashing them in for a quick ? No, you won’t be getting the full value of the gold, but you would be getting more than you would if it was still sitting in your drawer. I think the key word is “unwanted”, because I cashed in about 40 of my old PS2 and PS3 games that cost me about 0 - 0 during a span of about 15 years, but I think the 5 I got in the trade off was a good deal cause I wasn’t playing any of those games anymore and they were just collecting dust. Just curious to know what people think about this.-
ANSWER:
Cash for Gold isn't really a scam, but you won't ever get the true value. The same goes for your PS3 games, you can probably get 15%-20% more than what they will pay you at GameStop. This is why when you trade in a game for , they will sell it for -. This is because it will cost them some form of money to complete the transaction.
The same for gold. Because you probably don't have a full ounce of gold (0+ now), they will give you a price less than what your gold is worth. This is because they will take your gold and melt it with others. They will then form an ounce and sell it at market.
It all comes down to accessibility. Since you probably don't have time to market the gold, they expect you to sell it at a loss.
Not a scam, but not worth it in my opinion. Gold is finite and therefore its value will continue to go up.

QUESTION:
Cash 4 Gold is a scam, isn't it?
I keep seeing commercials for it, and it seems a little too easy. Like, if it was really that easy and great, wouldn't more people be talking about it? Have you ever used it, or know anyone who's used it?-
ANSWER:
I would be concerned because how do you know they are giving you the actual value of your metals. You just have to trust they will be honest. Some jewelry has different metals in them and a percentage of gold or silver. How do you know the correct percentage of gold and silver if you don't work in that industry? I wouldn't trust them to give the full value.

QUESTION:
Where to trade gold for cash?
I know that the cash 4 gold on tv is a scam. I know jewelry places take gold jewelry for cash. but i dont have jewelry. I dont trust pawn shops so where can i take my gold thats scam-free-
ANSWER:
You can go into just about any jewelry store and sell your gold jewelry.Yesterday on The Today Show they did a piece on this very topic. The show attempted to sell a gold bracelet purchased out of the JC Penney catalog for .00.
There was roughly worth of gold in the bracelet. The best offer was and change. The worst offer was and change.
Do not expect a huge windfall of cash. But if you shop around you will learn how much you can get for your jewelry.

QUESTION:
Where to sell gold jewelry?
I have a couple of class rings and a gold necklace I'd like to sell, but I'm afraid of being ripped off by one of the cash for gold scams. Where can I sell my gold for the most money?-
ANSWER:
I would recommend the Silver and Gold Exchange. Besides paying more than other places, they will contact you with their offer FIRSt, before sending a check. If you arent happy, they will send your rings right back. They also pay for trackable, Priority Mail shipping and 00 insurance, while other places use untraceable business reply mail and only 0 insurance. They are Better Business Bureau Accredited and what I liked best was that they published the prices they pay on a live price chart on their website at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com

QUESTION:
Is "cash for gold" the real deal or a rip-off?
Just wondering if those commercials for 'cash for gold' are true or are they some kind of scam where they'll give me per item or nothing at all.Has anybody tried it?
-
ANSWER:
Sadly, Cash for Gold is preying on people who are in bad situations during hard times. It's unfortuate to see/read about this, but it's out there. Beware and if you can avoid it, keep your gold. Sometimes it's family heirlooms that are priceless and you shouldn't be misled by scams like this. You will ALWAYS get less money than your gold is worth, or else they wouldn't be in business. Who do you think they profit off of? Who keeps them in business? Unsuspecting people.

QUESTION:
Isn't investing in gold the dumbest thing you can do?
Not only is it dumb to invest in something when the price is already high, but by having your overpriced, minute, intangible, undetectable speck of an "investment" you are helping the banking interests become ever more powerful as the value of "their" (which includes the "cash for gold" scam where the banks, through the government, confiscated all the people's gold during the last Great Depression/financial crisis) assets climb to unprecedented heights. Then after becoming even wealthier and even more larger monopolies thanks to the gullible, they will pull out before the balloon deflates and like morons all hapless wannabe investors will have is an empty account and a perhaps piece of paper as their "investments" disappear.-

Gold is too high right now but i have to tell you, I wouldn't have minded buying a few ounces 15 years ago for 300.00 an oz.How much is that dollar bill worth again? We'll see.

dagny......agreed. The point: PAPER money IS NOT going to be of any use to anybody.-
ANSWER:
Mostly junk gold. I purchase bullion and won't give it up for fiat currency that starts losing value the moment I receive it.By the way, some of those companies that are purchasing gold are paying less than 0.00 an ounce for 24 carat gold. Some of these people are real suckers.

QUESTION:
cash for gold direct NOT "cash4gold"!?
Before asking this question, I first did a search on this topic and found a lot of previous questions, but they were specifically about "cash4gold.com". There is a new competitor out there doing the same thing, called "cashforgolddirect.com". For the previous questions, everyone had nothing but bad stuff to say, like it's definitely a scam, or a ripoff, or seemed otherwise risky to send gold through the mail to a strange unknown company. I have always thought the same thing which is what made me skeptical all this time and I have never done it.But when I heard about this latest one, plus that they were offering free Walmart gift cards along with it (depending on how big their check was to you), it at least made me want to look in to it. The envelope is prepaid so you don't spend ANY money whatsoever. They have a money back guarantee so if you are not happy with your check, you can return it and ask for your items back within a short period and they will return it. They have a tracking number on your package which is very organized and more serious to me and they say that after they get it, they do their appraisal and cut checks within 24 hours.
They also collect tons of stuff: chains, charms, rings, earrings, cuff links, dental work, watches, bracelets. AND it can be gold or silver or platinum or diamonds. They also collect broken stuff (like broken chains).
I found literally a TON of all these things in my old drawers and jewelry boxes that I have been sitting on for like 10+ years so my thing was, since I haven't looked at any of that stuff for that long, how worse off could I be in the event I sent it to them and it never came back? Also, I wouldn't have done it if I had like SERIOUS gold items like the super expensive kinds - I would have gone to a pawn shop. But I had a TON of stuff, but stuff that was probably not 14Karat at all, very old, shabby, etc., so I gave it a try. I just sent it yesterday, so no updates yet, but has anyone had any experiences with cashforgolddirect.com, good or bad?
-
ANSWER:
You're better off going to a local pawn shop.

QUESTION:
Best Place to Sell Gold Online?
My girlfriend has a bunch of old jewelry laying around that she wants to cash in "to one of those gold sites" as she says. My concern is that I hear that some of these cash for gold places are actually scams and try to rip people off.Do any of you have experience with any sites in particular that we might try out? We are in California but want to ship to the place where we will get the highest dollar value for our materials which is why local pawn shops are out of the question.
After we get some guidance we will send in our materials and let you all know how it goes. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Forget it. You will lose big. Take it to three or more jewelry stores, or shops that advertise 'we buy gold and silver'. They need to make money and will pay less than 'spot market' price, but most of them are pretty fair with you. These online places are a joke.

QUESTION:
Where should I sell gold?
Gold keeps going up & I heard that 1 ounce of gold is over 1,000 bucks now. But if you got cash 4 gold they'll give you like 15 to 30 bucks & they sell it for more. That's such a scam. Where do I sell my gold? Thanks so much.-
ANSWER:
You can estimate how much Silver Gold Buyers will pay for your gold if you know the weight and karat of your items. Just go to the estimator page at:http://www.silvergoldbuyers.com/sell-my-silver-gold-platinum-price-payment-estimator.php

QUESTION:
,000 CASH GIVEAWAY! scam or what?
ok well we submitted one of those tickets you fill out at the mall to win ,000 or a car.
well recently we received a letter saying:
",000 CASH or a NEW MERCEDES, BMW OR PORSCHE, value ,000; or a ,5000 Shopping Spree; or a 5-day/4night Exotic Island Adventure - 6 value; or 0 cash!
blah, blah, blah"they talk about hearing their presentation for 90 minutes and the visa card and the instant gold card.
is this a scam? has anyone actually attended this? if so, please inform me of whether it's a scam or not. thank you!
-
ANSWER:
Yep, that "Exotic Island Adventure" is a scam. The ONLY thing that's actually free is the room in some crappy run down resort, usually in Puerto Rico or Dominican Republic, that can't sell rooms through reputable travel agents because they have such a bad reputation. To get that trip they don't tell you upfront that you have to book your flights through THEIR travel agency - whose prices are going to be higher than the airlines. And you can only travel on Sunday night and return Thursday - otherwise you pay a 00 supplement for weekends. And taxes and resort fees are not included. Transportation is not included. Tips are not included. You end up spending much more on this "free" adventure than if you had booked a package trip to a 5-start resort on your ownDon't bother going - that 90 minute presentation is a time share or other hard sell sales pitch

QUESTION:
Where can I sell my gold?
Has anyone here ever mailed their jewelry away for cash? Where did you send it? Did you feel you got a good amount of cash back for your gold or silver? I have read so many negative forums that discuss scams like Cash4Gold and other places. I have sold a bunch of broken gold and silver for cash to a great place MyGoldDepot.com and wanted to know if anyone had any other experiences that were positive.
Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I am not sure how you can claim you had a good experience with MyGoldDepot (unless you are an employee and this is a fake question).
They have a "What We Pay" page on their website, but on it they do not show what they pay like reputable sites do.
They have a FAKE Better Business Bureau Seal on their website and are not accredited or even listed with the BBB like reputable buyers do.
Their Terms and Conditions are downright scary and show that basically you are screwed if anything goes wrong with your transaction.
Answer: I would deal with just about ANYONE besides MyGoldDepot!

QUESTION:
Has anyone here used Cash 4 God service and actually got their money?
I sent in some rings and such 2 weeks ago, I've put in my tracking number only to be told that it is still in transit.
I call the 800 numbers during business hours and get transferred to a mailbox that cannot take any more messages because it is full.
So has anyone here used this service and been paid for their gold and silver jewelry that you have sent in? Or is this T.V. scam?-

go to the Better Business Bureau website (BBB.org)and I think there is somewhere you can type out the business name and get an idea if others have been scammed. You can also file a claim, they may be able to help you..not sure if you'll get your gold back, but it would be great to keep this from happening to someone else if it's a scam.

QUESTION:
How do I get the most money out of old wedding rings?
I have been divorced for 3 years, and still have the wedding bands from my previous marriage. I am getting married again in a month, and I'd like to get rid of my old bands once and for all. I have looked at companies that give you cash for gold and diamonds, but I'm afraid they're all a scam. And I have no clue how to find out what these things are worth, at least not without paying some jewelry store a crazy amount to get them appraised. Anyone else have any experience with this?
I wish I knew what the original cost was, but they are older rings from the 1950s, my ex didn't pay for them he got them from his grandma, they were from a previous marriage of her that ended in divorce so she doesn't care what happens to them.-
ANSWER:
I'm in complete agreement with you on the companies... I'm not sure about them either. When I've sold jewelry in the past, I usually take them to a pawn shop or to a jewelry store. You are not going to get retail value for them, but they will usually give you a fair price.
Another thing you can do, is take it to the jewelry store or pawn shop and let them tell you the carat and clarity of the diamond and band, then research it on the internet. You can try selling it on craigslist, but be prepared to go to numerous jewelry stores with potential buyers so they can determine the value.
All in all, if you want a fair-market price for it, I would sell it on craigslist, the local paper, or e-bay (ebay with a real appraisal). If you just want to sell it, I would go to a large chain jewelry store, small chain/second hand store, or pawn shop.

QUESTION:
Who decides what commercials will be played on a channel?
Okay, so I'm taking action, starting here and I'll take it as far as I can.
I'm doing this to save anyone I can, people I don't know because I have a conscience and my little feelings get hurt each time I read a story about this...First, I'm wanting to know who has control over what advertisements/commercials are played on a specific channel?
I watch CB33 (I think) - http://www.the33tv.com/. Late night after Cheaters comes on, infomercials follow. I watch these. Some offer products such as (weight sets, sexual enhancers, and fake overnight money makers).
I'm standing against the fake overnight money makers.A couple being "Jeff's Shortcut to Internet Millions", "Cash Flow Notes", and "Cash for Gold"(which I first hand experienced).
There's millions of stories on these. I've been reading into them for a while. I actually met a guy on a forum who lived close to me here in Dallas. We met up after he told me his story. Because, of course anyone can conjure a big lie to try and impress you.
We met at a starbucks and he brought his packet from Jeff's Shortcut--. There's his proof right there. He went on and described the whole process and how the simple packet/book he was given didn't teach him anything a child wouldn't know.
He was a man who lost his job, had a small amount of money and tried to make it big in a down economy.I'm wondering if channel 33 (the news crew or whoever), has the ability to stop airing these. They're all about supporting and helping us through these "hard times" but are they helping when they air fraudulent advertisements and scams?
They don't have a forum on their site, just a twitter account and a facebook. I don't use either of those sites - so I'm not sure if I can comment and have some of their other viewers support me through this.
I thought cash for gold was a simple solution to get rid of jewelry (that I NEVER wear) and make a decent buck. I was sent 6$ for hundreds of dollars of jewelry. I immediately sent my check back, carefully followed their refund/return policy and never saw my money again because they claimed they didn't receive it before the 30 days. How was I to know of this scam?
--This is exactly what I'm trying to protect other people from, and I just need to be pointed in the person responsible for allowing it.
As always, I rate any good answers with thumbs up, best answer gets a full row of stars
Thanks
Chrisp.s. - If I'm successful, I plan on carrying this on to ever channel that airs these.
-
ANSWER:
well companies pay for advertising slots and so if they can afford it, don't breach any infringement or liable laws and are legal I would saw they can advertise when and where they want.
why don't you write to the channels, your local policitian (and in the Uk we have an advertising standards commision - the IPC, you may have a similar board who regulate advertising in the US - write to them too)
state your concerns and see how you get on. but make sure you have all the facts before you do anything - you don't want to fall at the first jump.......
good luck!

QUESTION:
Is it remotely possible that people think when they buy TV commemorative coins they are getting real money?
I see people asking if they can trade the TV commercial "commemorative" 1877 Gold Coin for cash!!!! The thing only costs .95 and then they give you another coin, a silver dollar. That silver dollar even says on the back it is pure silver "clad". The commercial clearly says the coins are both "clad". If someone is thinking they are going to buy for .95 then God help us. Clad means plated, as in covered in gold or silver, or to make it easier gold plated and silver plated. They are probably copper that is plated with the other metals. They are not meant to be confused with being real money and I'm betting they aren't selling them with the hopes that thousands of people will even remotely believe they are getting for ! Then I see all of the "coin experts" coming in with their brilliant lessons about the value of these coins if they were genuine. If you listen to the commercial it says there were only 2 of these coins ever struck (made at the US Mint) and they are both in the Smithsonian. So these brilliant coin experts telling the other geniuses who are thinking that they might be able to scam someone into buying the fake coins for what they would be worth if they were real - 00-2300 - are insane!!! The actual 2 coins sold for ,000 each in 1909 before the government got them back. Right now they would be worth multi-millions each if they were ever taken out of the Smithsonian Institution, the museum of the United States of America in Washington D.C. - one of the most heavily secured buildings in the country.Bottom line. If you watch a commercial selling coins for less than face value, please be smart enough to realize they are NOT real and you can NOT get more money than you paid for them unless you find someone else who is even more easily fooled than you are. That was as polite as I could say that. Gold is worth 26 per ounce as of today. The fake coin is said to weigh 2 1/2 ounces. Did you really think you were buying 65 worth of gold for .95!!!??? Silver is worth .63 per ounce today. So, if you are foolish enough to believe that you were going to be getting over 00 worth of precious metal for a 20 dollar bill then you almost deserve to get screwed. You could definitely find someone out there at a burger joint who will believe the coin is real and they will even make change for you, but hen you can pretty much count on getting arrested after they pull your picture off of the video camera. Please have enough intelligence to understand that you shouldn't do it. Fake money is just fake money. Leave it in the pretty blue box and enjoy it's beauty. Next time you see a commercial selling money - IT"S FAKE! Don't buy it.

QUESTION:
looking to buy 2010 proof silver and gold eagles and gold buffalos....?
coin collecting noob here...apologies ahead of time for the lengthy question....im planning on buying one each 2010 proof silver eagles, gold eagles, and gold buffalos. (yes, 2010, not 2011). mostly to commemorate something very important. and im planning on having them for 5...10...20 years or more. who knows. not doing it for an investment per-se...but if down the line i do decide to sell them, i wouldnt mind getting some extra cash for them.
now i dont know if i should buy the coins that were issued straight from the mint (in the fancy velvet boxes) or should i be looking for MS70 graded coins?
ive read opinions that modern day proof and bullion coins that are rated (ie; slabbed) by the rating companies are a scam because...
a.) theres so many of them that are being produced which doestn make them scarce at all
b.) a modern day coin proof/bullion is never circulated anyway, so of course theyre all going to be rated 70 (or 69 at worse).so if should i be shopping for proof coins, or MS 70 graded coins?
also, if slabbed coins are better, which of the grading companies are better...ngc, pcgs...etc. i know that 'first strike' is the most desirable of these 'graded' coins. i also know that the gold buffalo 'black diamond' that is sold by apmex is a complete and utter scam.
thanks very much for any info.
-
ANSWER:
The coins you are looking for are only available through licensed dealers. For a list of PCGS dealers, go to the American Numismatic Association web site. (coins.org). The difference between proof 69 and proof 70 coins are tiny defects in the edge and are not visible in slabs. It is your own preference weather you buy proof or uncirculated coins. Proofs are better looking but MS69/70 are scarcer.

QUESTION:
I sent 2oz 18K gold, 9 rings, and 1 24k gold bracelet to cash4gold.com and I got sent a check of .79?
I was broke and wanted to get my family presents. So I send cash4gold.com 2oz of 18k gold, 9 RINGS, a 24k gold bracelet, 1/2 ounce platinum and I get a check of .79? I call them and they say that is the value of the stuff I sent in. They also sent me a sheet of how much they think my stuff was worth and they gave me .54 for each 1oz of 18k gold I sent in. When I call them I also have to wait 30 minutes before I can speak to anybody. They only gave me 73 cents for the 1/2 ounce platinum, 8 cents for all the rings, and 26 cents for the gold bracelet!!! In the sheet that they gave me they claim that the gold I sent them was 12k not 18k and that the gold bracelet was 12k too. One of those rings my uncle gave me before he died but I needed some cash to get some presents. It makes me sick to my stomach that they run those advertisements during Christmas and tough economic times. I called and complained for a long time and they offered to give me an additional .50 to settle it all. They also say that everything is melted. I took me 2 weeks to notice that they were paying me this much since it took 2 weeks to give me the check. They say on TV they give checks in 24 hours!!!Is there any way I can get more of my money back from this scam?
But they said they paid the highest in the industry!!!
No Christmas presents this time. All i got are Christmas cards. Thanks cash4gold.com-
ANSWER:

QUESTION:
Discovered a huge scam, now what do I do?
Recently I placed an ad on Postaroo for my dreamsicle collection. On a daily basis I am getting offers of people wanting to purchase the entire collection, through a second party check that is way over the asking price and then send them the difference. Oh and get this, they claim they'll even pick up the merchandise too. They are all yahoo email adresses, they have no profile in the system and I'm sort of clueless how to stop these people from doing this. I'm not dumb enough to fall for it, but I'd hate to see someone like my grandma, with her heart of gold, trying to do the "nice" thing, earn a little money, and then end up in handcuffs for cashing a stolen check or something. Is there anything that can be done? The email addresses are: rickythomas009@yahoo.com, reyesbruce101@yahoo.com, james_simmon001@yahoo.com and bishoppaulheinzwilhelm@yahoo.com. Please help!-

ANSWER:
100% scam, you are correct. There is no inheritance.
There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.
Any phone number that starts with +44-79 or anything similar is not based in the United Kingdom. It is from a UK based cell phone redirect service that can be answered by anyone anywhere in the world. It is a favorite service of scammers who want to pretend to be in the United Kingdom but are really half way around the world from there.
The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "banker/barrister/lawyer" and will demand you pay for made-up fees, in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram.
Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.
Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.
You could post up the email address and the emails themselves that the scammer is using, it will help make your post more googlable for other suspicious potential victims to find when looking for information.
Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don't bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn't worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.
Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.
If you google "fake inheritance scam", "fraud bank account Western Union scam" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts of victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

QUESTION:
Why should Yahoo.com not try as much as possible to protect its site from scam?
The site was used to dupe me of .60 recently via my e-gold account. I received an e-mail purportedly to be sent by Yahoomail Admin. notifying me that my account was randomly selected for a 0 cash prize. Please, must I be made to conclude that even Yahoo.com is not safe?-
ANSWER:
it is not Yahoo, it is your email. You must have good sense to keep from getting scammed. It sounds like your number has been stolen, you need to cancel that card. You have to tell Yahoo if your email is a spam, and they will delete it. Anytime you get an email wanting to give you money, you should thouroly check it out, the scammers thrive by having people jump on it instead of checking, and Yahoo will not give you 500.00, bet on it

QUESTION:
OK, Who Besides Me, Got Burned on An Internet Scam?
3 years ago I used to sell quite a bit on ebay. I was selling Harley Davidson Black Hills Gold rings. Some guy tells me they can not get these rings in his country and he would like to buy a bunch of them so he can resell them. Now this made sense to me because I know in Holland, for example, the Harley Davidson Anniversary items were not being sold. (I made a killing on ebay to people in Holland)
He sends me a check for 00.00 tells me to send as much merchandise as he can buy for that much and if there is any money left over, donate it to charity. He gives me an address for his favorite charity.
Now remember, this was 3 ago. The Nigerian scams were not exposed yet.
I used to bank at one of those banks where they won't let you have cash back until the check clears so when the check, which looked like a cashier's check and had the Veri-Sign icon on it, I deposited it in my account.
I left for my annual week to Sturgis the next day. While I was there, I used my ATM card to see if the check cleared. It did. So I went ahead and purchased 00 worth of the Black Hills gold. When I got home, and thankfully, BEFORE I mailed out the rings. A detective appeared at my door and wanted to know why I cashed a counterfeit check!
I had to pay back the entire 00, which I argued against and lost, because the bank should have recognized that it was fake.
I called the FBI, they told me there is NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT SCAMS OUT OF NIGERIA.
So be aware, people.-
ANSWER:
Yes, I had my credit card number stolen from a VERY reputable site that I had done business with for over 10 years, due largely to my own stupidity. I placed an order with them and before I closed out my browser, which had the surfing history on it, I placed an order with a new supplier that I had not done business with yet. The original order had my CC info and my e-mail address stored on a secure server so I thought I was safe. Some hacker got my CC number and my e-mail addy, ordered a 00 laptop for a guy in Ceylon and a 00 TV for a person in France. From there it got worse. The CC number was sold to a person in India who maxed it out......... grand worth! Thank goodness the original order has an automatic e-mail confirmation of your order or I would have never known it. I called my CC bank, reported it, they cancelled that account and gave me a new one and never made me pay a cent. Dodged the bullet that time! Diligence and wariness can save you tons of $ and aggravation. One careless move can drown you in troubles.................I now use Firefox which erases my "tracks" when I exit the browser.

QUESTION:
is a scam illegal!?!?!?!?!?!?
ok 2 things first of all ive been trying to sell a WoW account, so this guy, clearly a scammer, tried buying it and then didnt message me for 3 days so i figured he changed his mind and sold it, well he just sent me a email saying he mailed me a check for 200 but messed up and put 00 and that when i cash it , he wants me to send it back, even if it clears is it illegal to keep it?
and #2 if i tried selling a WoW account i didnt have, made a trial account, as soon i got the money i spammed selling gold on it so it got dissabled and he would never be able to tell that it was a trial just that it got shut off for violating ToS, then would i get arrested for something like that?
im a minor, so from what ive heard since i cant legaly make a verble contract ive heard i would not be liable is this true?-
ANSWER:
Yes scamming is illegal. A few problems I see for both of youFirst off, even once a check clears in your bank, it doesn't really mean it's cleared at his, and the money can be removed from your account weeks after your bank clears it. Never send anyone money. Don't cash it. It's a scam. Don't accept personal checks.
Secondly, you probably already know that selling ingame items (or accounts) for real world items (aka money) is against the TOS and can get you and the account you are selling banned.
Taking his money and not giving him what was promised is illegal. And you can get in trouble legally for it.
Fraud and theft come to mind as a few things you could be charged with

QUESTION:
what is the catch with these ads?
ads saying send us your gold and old mobiles for cash, I know it's some sort of scam, but how does it work, do they send you less money than they should send or nothing at all or is it when you ask them to send whatever you sent to them back to you they send you a cheaper version of what you sent-
ANSWER:
ITV did an expose recently and these cash-for-gold companies on average only paid 6% of the total value of the gold. Selling to a reputable jeweller or even pawn shop always gave more money than any of the various mail-in companies. http://www.itv.com/lifestyle/thismorning/reallife/consumerclinic200110/
"A new Which report out tomorrow reveals how much consumers can expect to get from the various ways you can sell gold. They purchased four identical items of gold jewellery, costing £115, £215 and £399 and sent them to various advertised gold buyers, as well as getting quotes from three high street pawnbrokers and three jewellers. Their results - postal gold buyers (advertised on TV) consistently gave the worst quotes. On average, the TV gold buyers offered just 6% of the retail value. This compared poorly with the average price quoted by pawnbrokers - who gave 17% of the retail value. The jewellers offered the best rates. They were willing to pay what amounted to 25% of the retail value on average - more than four times what the TV gold buyers would pay. Be aware that if you don't want to accept the TV gold buyers quote they may charge you to send the gold back to you."
You can see a comparison of various sites here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1244866/TV-cash-gold-firms-offer-fraction-true-value.html
I am sure the mobiles are pretty much the same

QUESTION:
How do I help him improve his BS detector?
My boyfriend needs major, major help with his BS and scam spotting skills. He is an absolute moron when it comes to this type of thing. I try to give him hints and warnings on how to recognize scams that I know about, but it never helps. I tell him that if an offer is too good to be true, it probably is.
He is into this Neo-Tech thing, which is a scam. They wrote him a letter saying they've been researching him and he is special and he has powers and all this crap and they told him they have these secrets to share with him. They told him they want him in their secret society and he bought three freaking paperback books from them at 0 apiece. He still does not believe that Neo-Tech is a scam.
He has bought fake gold jewelry for hundreds of dollars off guys on the street.
I had to tell him not to cash a check from a Japanese businessman who contacted him online. He didn't listen to me and put the check in his account to "see if it was real" even though I already told him it's fake. He had to actually call the bank in Japan before he believed that it was a scam.
Just last week he ordered one of the "free safes" from World Monetary Exchange, and now he has downloaded that stupid fake Antivirus 7 virus. This is just in the past week! And I specifically warned him about fake antivirus viruses probably less than a week before he downloaded it.
Is he just plain too dumb to be alive? Can he be taught? What can I possibly tell him that might help?
Good point Bobby, but he hasn't learned anything at all from experience so far! I've known him 3 years and he was falling for this crap long before I met him. I guess I'll try telling him to google stuff. Maybe I'll add ripoffreport or something to his favorites. Anybody else have a suggestion?? Has anyone overcome being really gullible? If so, how?
Really, nobody?-
ANSWER:
I guess what you're talking about is street smarts and I don't think it's something that can be taught by another person, it's something that has to be learned through experience.Teach your bf how to use google and search whatever offer he get so he can see what other people's experiences were like.
Other than that, like I said, if he's going to learn, it'll have to be through his own mistakes.
