Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Jewellery For Cash

Before giving vastu principles about the cash box, it will be better to first understand the true meaning of cash, money or wealth. Wealth is called Dhana in Hindi language and Artha in Sanskrit language. The word Dhana is also used for plus sign (+) in Mathematics. Thus, anything plus, positive, favourable or desirable is called dhana. Dhana means our assets in different walks of life. Sanskrit classics are full with descriptions of different types of dhana, roop dhana (asset or wealth of beauty), yovan dhana (asset of youth), putra dhana (asset of children), stri dhana (asset of life partner), go dhana (asset of animals). In Rajasthan, a husband is often called 'dhani'. He is the man rich in stri dhana or wife. Anything meaningful in life is 'Artha' or dhana. Thus wealth does not mean hard currency or bank notes only.

Astrologically, second house of the horoscope is called dhana Sthana or the house of wealth. It is also the house of food and eatables. The primary wealth of humankind is food and eatables. In the primitive times, food was the only asset of man struggling for survival. Second house of the horoscope lies in the east of northeast direction. Thus all the eatables - sweetmeats, liquids, fruits, vegetables, squashes, condiments and pickles - should be stored in the northeast direction. Perishables should be stored in the north of northeast and other eatables requiring slight solar energy should be stored in the east of northeast. These eatables are our prime most dhana. Food - after oxygen and water - is our basic necessity.

According to the vastu right place for keeping hard cash, jewellery and other valuables is southwest. The prime requirements for hard cash, jewellery and other valuables are privacy, security and safety. North is the direction ruled by Kuber. He is lord of all the accumulated wealth. Thus many Vastu experts have recommended north direction for keeping hard cash and jewellery. But this direction is always kept light and open and is easily reachable. Our prime consideration of safety and security for the precious things does not get fulfilled here. North being a cool direction, was originally meant for keeping eatables, which are easily perishable. Kuber has a large pot belly. He is a well-fed person.

The safe should be in the master's bedroom. It should be a private, safe and secure area. It should be farthest from the main entry and should never be visible to the strangers. The safe should be kept on a foundation. Keep it on an even surface and never in a slanting position. A safe with four legs kept on an even surface is a steady safe and so will be your accumulated wealth.

Strong room in the banks or big organisations should be in the farthest corner from the main entry. It should preferably be in the southwest. The back of the chest should be always in the southwest so that the front is in the north or east direction. Door should always be in the north or east direction. Keep a window in the north or east side at somewhat higher level. Lesser and lesser number of openings should be in a strong room. The height of this room should never be less than the height of other rooms. It should be square or rectangular in shape. Construct a threshold of at least 1 to 2 feet high for the lockers.

* The Treasury / Strong room should not be used as a store.

* The Safe should be installed on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday when SUN is in Nakshatra of Mars (Dhanishtha), Rahu (Swati), Jupiter (Punarvasu) Moon (Rohini and Shravan) or Nakshtra of SUN (Kritika, Uttaraphalguni and Uttarashadha).

* The Treasury / Strong room should be kept neat and clean there should not be any cobwebs.

* The Treasury / Strong Room should have threshold.

* The Gold / Silver ornaments, precious stones, should be kept in South or west part of the safe.

* There should not be any statue / Idol in the safe.

As per the ancient vastu scriptures the location for treasury is recommended in the North, the direction of Kuber i.e. wealth. However, with the changes environment and use of heavy cupboard safes, it should not be placed in the North direction, as such safes will put quite heavy weights on North directions. It is advisable to put these safes in South West direction of South West room. The door of such safe/ vaults should face North or East. The strong room should have only single leaf shutter and should not be a self-closing type. The door should be placed in positive zone of the room. The safe should not exactly face the north door. The safe should be placed on a firm foundation and it should not be under any beam.

  11. QUESTION:
Is there a way to sell my old diamond jewelry for cash?
I live near philadelphia so anywhere around there. I have heard of pawn shops but I have never tried to do anything like this before. Even if I wanted to sell my jewelry over the internet, I would have no idea any information buyers might ask including the weight and carot.

    • ANSWER:
Some jewellery shops will buy second hand jewellery - either to melt down/reuse if they also design, or to resell if the jewellery is in good condition.

Your best bet is to go around and ask in different places as their offers will widely greatly. If they are thinking about buying then they will usually offer you a lot less than its cost value. It is defiantly worth looking around. (More expensive areas will often pay more money for good jewellery because they can sell it on for more).

Even if you do not get any good offers they might be able to give you any idea of the carat, etc.

I'm afraid my knowledge of pawn shops is non-existant however!

  18. QUESTION:
Cash 4 Gold - Are they a good way to get cash for gold?
I am in need of some extra money. I have a lot of gold jewelry that I do not wear anymore. Should I sell my gold jewelry to Cash 4 Gold? Has anyone ever used Cash 4 Gold?

    • ANSWER:
Cash for gold isn't buying jewelery. They're buying gold to be melted down and reclaimed. Because of this, they won't pay you anywhere near as much as you could get selling your jewelery elsewhere. They only pay you for the gold content. Any diamonds, rubies, etc, don't count. The following is from WESH 2 News:

ORLANDO, Fla. -- You've seen the ads. You need the money, so why not take a chance?

Send in Grandma's ring or Aunt Bessie's bracelet, but what can you get by sending your old gold jewelry to companies advertising cash for gold?

One commercial on television shows a woman saying, "I sent in my diamond ring from my first marriage and got more money than I could have ever imagined."

Another says, "I got 3. All I did was look through my drawer full of jewelry I never wear."

To check on the claims, WESH 2 News reporter Craig Lucie collected some jewelry and had it appraised at Reynolds and Co. in Winter Park.

Jeweler David Reynolds used an acid test to determine how knows how much pure gold is in each bracelet. One was gold-plated, the other was 18 karat, the third 14 karat.

After weighing them, he determines that one would fetch about and another about .50. The gold-plated piece would get only pennies on the dollar and not worth sending.

WESH 2 News sent the pieces to Cash 4 Gold and Gold Kit.

Gold Kit returns .01 for the gold-plated bracelet.

Cash 4 Gold sent a a check for .09 for the other two bracelets, which were appraised for .50.

An attorney for the company, Mike Casey, said Cash 4 Gold is paying only for the "scrap gold" to melt it down. He added a jeweler would not ever pay face value.

Casey even suggested selling your gold on eBay or Craigslist.

  38. QUESTION:
Why do guys wear jewelry to show off cash and girls wear jewelry for fashion?

    • ANSWER:
Evolutionary selection has resulted in the female of our species seeking males with whom to mate who can protect them through sheer power and social status. Social status determines how much power a man can exercise when he is past his physical prime.

Don't forget that until the 1960's women had no effective control over their own fecundity. For the last 150,000 years, or more, all women of child-bearing age were constantly pregnant and suckling their infants along with raising their young children until the male child was ready for initiation into the adult male community via 'rites of passage' and/or the female child was 'taken' by a male of the community. Women needed protecting both for their own sakes as well as for the sake of the species.

Women are often distracted by sexual longings for 'cute' males, but rarely does a women choose a male as a long-term mate (to the extent that she even has a choice) on the basis of looks.

For males seeking to mate, POWER is the name of the game, and symbols of power (such as jewelry, and the like, in our current culture) are intended to serve as outward signs (fake, or not) of POWER.

For females, on the other hand, maximizing mating options is the name of the game. Women have evolved to do whatever they can to excite the attention of as many males as they can so as to maximize mating options. The more numerous the options, the greater the chances of being protected during child bearing years, and beyond.

In today's culture, one way for a woman to accomplish this is via the tool known as 'fashion'. Fashion, in one form or another, has been employed by women for this purpose throughout human history, and will continue to do so for as long as we call ourselves 'human'.

So, both males and females employ jewelry (and anything else they can think of) to GET WHAT THEY WANT. That is the way it was, and that is the way it will remain. It is only natural, and Nature sucks!

      P.S.:
I am a gay man and couldn't care less about any of this. The last thing this word needs is a larger population!

  39. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:

I mailed bent rings (all the same weight and gold content) to 9 different "sell you gold for cash" type sites. The results were pretty dramatic. The checks received varied from to 0. The three lowest paying sites were goldkit (), brokengold () and cash4gold (). The top site was http://www.USGoldRefining.com (0). I went to a pawn shop and found that they would pay 0.

  45. QUESTION:
Is it better to pawn your gold jewelry or sell it to a cash for gold place?
I need some extra cash and wanted to get rid of some gold jewelry I never wear. I don't know which would be more profitable... Pawn Shop or Cash for Gold store.

    • ANSWER:
Neither, Consumer Reports has some good advice on selling gold:

"The Consumer Reports Money Adviser compared what one of the television companies offered for a gold band a couple of years ago with what a local jeweler and an on-line gold buyer would pay, the TV company paid a much lower price. Instead, take your gold to a reputable jeweler in your area for an appraisal. Note the carat of the metal, and ask the jeweler to tell you the weight in pennyweights or troy ounces. Use this online calculator to figure out the value based on the price of gold that day. Then quickly (because prices fluctuate) call several jewelry or coin stores and ask how much they pay for gold. Aim to get about 85 percent of what you calculated it’s worth. "

  46. QUESTION:
"Cash for Gold" How much should we be getting for...?
My mom and I are going to take some of our old jewelry into one of those cash for gold things. We just wanted to know roughly how much we should get for this stuff so we don't get screwed. We also have three gold dental fillings which are quite heavy. I know this isn't very specific but if someone could give us a guesstimation it would help :)
    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Not as much as you think.

Do yourself a favor and find a small pawn shop, or jeweler, in your area that advertises that they buy gold.

Take in gold, get estimate. Be shocked by how little scrap gold is worth.

Then, if you use a mail it in firm, make sure they do not have lots of complaints at the BBB online, AND make sure there is the option for you to return their check and get your stuff back.

      Good luck.

(personally, the little money that scrap gold will get you, most of us would be better off keeping it in case our monetary system collapses, but that is me)

  47. QUESTION:
what is the best place in AZ for trading my gold jewelry for maximum amount cash?

    • ANSWER:
Avoid pawn shops and those Ca$h4Gold places. They know exactly what the gold in your jewelry is worth, and they lowball the price. After all, they are out to make a profit, and most people have no idea how much their gold is worth. Your best bet is a private sale, which may mean e-bay or some local variant.

  50. QUESTION:
Is 'looting' common when raiding a house in Iraq?
My buddy, in a combat engineer company, says that when they raided a house of suspected insurgents, they 'pucked' (I think? Like arrested? Anyone know what this is?) all teen and adult males, then searched the house for evidence of insurgent activity. And he said it was standard to take any loose cash, jewelry, etc., you found lying around, and just keep it.

Can anyone who's actually -been- on these raids tell me if this was just his squad, or is pretty common?
Well, there's no way I'm gonna report him. Maybe he was just making this up, anyway, and frankly as someone who's not over there, I have no way to know how I'd act under that stress. So even if he's telling the truth, it's not my job to report him. Seems to me, though, that if you're taking off all the men in a household, the -last- thing anyone's gonna complain about is also taking cash.

Anyway, still hoping someone can answer who speaks from direct experience! Thanks to all.

    • ANSWER:
If he is doing this - you need to report him. He will spend a couple of years in a military prison if this is true.
