Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Old Coins To Sell

Collecting old and antique coins can be a very good hobby. Their values go up as time goes, the more old the coin, the higher its value. Coin collectors know the worth of the coins that they have. They also add more to their collection if they ever get someone who sells antique coins, though the price is high. That's why they know that the coin's value will go up over the years.

Some coin collectors sell their coin collections after the coins' values have gone up, but some are just simple collectors and coin lovers. They will not sell their collection, they just add to it. Either way, if you have old coins that you want to sell, you will always have a buyer in a coin collector. You only have to be patient in selling the coins because you cannot expect to sell them at once. You have to look for potential buyers. But before you sell your old coins, you must first know their values. This article will give you tips on how to price the old coins that you have.

The rarer the coins, the more expensive they are. There are limited edition coins that a country's government issues, meaning there are only a limited number of them in circulation in the old times.

Search the internet for websites that can help you determine the values of the coins that you have. You can input the year and the name of the coins and they will show you how much they are worth today.

If you do not know how to look at a coin's value, have an appraiser do it. An expert eye will give you a higher price for the coins than when you do it by yourself, especially if you do not have enough knowledge. Employ the services of a coin appraiser and ask for a quotation of the coins that you have.

Check the coins' condition. If your coins are scratched or dented, they will not fetch a good price. Maintaining a good condition of the coins means gaining more profit from them.

The metal content will also determine the price. If your coins are made of precious metals like gold, silver or aluminum, they will surely have a higher value than when they are made of cheaper metals.

The higher the demand for a certain type of coin, the pricier it will be. Even if there is plenty of a specific kind of coin, it will sell higher than rarer ones. This is because the demand is high, so the price will go up as well. It is much better if the coin is older.

The older the coins are the better. The age of the coins is another factor to consider when pricing them. They fetch higher prices than those newer ones. You will not believe how much coin enthusiasts will dish out just to take possession of a very old coin.

You can definitely profit from selling old coins that you deem useless, but in the eyes of a collector, they are very good finds and of high value. Also, if you have a coin collection yourself, you will know their values from following the tips above.

How do you sell old coins?

They're dirty, but good enough and old. Like 30s, 40s, and 50s old. I don't even know where she got the coins from, she was born in the 50s.

We don't know the value or how to sell them. Help?

    • ANSWER:
Do not clean the coins. You can take them to local coin dealers in your area. To help you before that see if a coin club is in your area and ask them about values they will help. Do not be surprised if the coins have little value for coins from the 1830's to 1950's usually have little value. They are not considered old by the coin collecting community. Do not take them to an antique dealer or pawn shop for they usually don't know value and if they do are not the most honest people.

    • ANSWER:
To get a better idea as to your coins' value, check out http://www.pcgs.com/prices/

Anything worth more than, say, 0.00 you may want to put into an auction. Some major auction houses are Bowers and Merena, Heritage, and Stack's Rare Coins.

Should you have coins that are auctionable, it is usually worthwhile to have them professionally graded by one of the services, e.g., PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) or NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation). They will grade each coin and place it in a sonic-sealed, tamper proof holder. Certified coins bring higher prices at auction than "raw" coins.

      Hope that helps.

  29. QUESTION:
where is best place to sell old coins?
have Indian head cent 1856-1909 and Lincoln wheat 1909-1940.

    • ANSWER:
Artists, coincollector and photographers are successfully selling their wares everyday on the online auction site, eBay. According to a recent analysis of eBay sales, a crafts-related item is sold every nine seconds, a scrapbook item is sold every minute, and 40 cross-stitch items sell in an hour on eBay. Sales of craft items on eBay have grown almost 60 percent in the past year, according to TheBidFloor.com.

But, at the same time, many would be sellers are listing their pieces for sale on auctions and getting no bids, concluding that eBay just doesn't work.

Here are some tips from James Dillehay, craft artist, eBay seller and author of the new book, "Sell Your Crafts on eBay" (Warm Snow Publishers), on how to profitably sell your wares online:

      1. Anyone who can type and has access to the Internet can sell on eBay. But the creative person has an advantage on eBay when she turns that creativity toward researching overlooked opportunities.

For example, during the months before Christmas, more than 3,000 Christmas items are sold every 24 hours on eBay. Research methods outlined in Sell Your Crafts on eBay showed that between February 12 and March 12 of this year, 4,107 auctions with 'Christmas ornament' in the title completed successfully at an average price of .34. Imagine how much more money a smart crafter can make all year long knowing how to ferret out this kind of information from eBay sales.

      2. A word's spelling impacts an item's profitability. For example, the word 'handmade,' spelled as one word, was part of 2,233 auction titles with an average closing price of .29. However, auction titles that included 'hand made' as two words were found in 1,358 listings, but with an average auction closing price higher, at .81, or .52 more profit per item.

      3. Go to eBay.com and find the search box. Type in the word or phrase that describes your art or craft item. Then scroll down the links on the left side of the page and click on the link for "completed items." Here, you'll be able to see the demand for this type of product. Do searches for your items every two to three weeks to chart buying patterns.

      4. Find out how much people are willing to pay for your wares. Click on the link that says "highest price." This will give you a list of completed auctions from highest priced items to lowest priced ones. You want to know what people are willing to pay for items like yours. If you can't make and sell your product for a profit, eBay might not be your marketplace.

      5. Determine how much money you'll make on your product. To determine your profitability, use the cost of your materials plus the cost of your labor plus the cost of your selling price, which should be the minimum price to recover your expenses. If it takes you eight hours to make a piece of jewelry and the highest priced similar item sells on eBay for , you won't make a profit.

      6. Look at the elements of successful sellers of products that are similar to yours. Examine their winning auction titles. Observe how much detail they use to describe their item. See if the seller used any of eBay's special features such as gallery photos or a bold, featured listing. Evaluate the starting price, starting day of the week, and duration of winning auctions.

For more tips on how to sell your craft items on eBay, consult a resource book like "Sell Your Crafts on eBay," by James Dillehay. It offers-more than 200 easy-to-learn tactics and tips that help sell art, craft and theme-related items for a profit on eBay and on other online auction Web sites.

  30. QUESTION:
How do I go about selling old coins?
Of course I'd like to get the most money I can out of them. They are old silver and a couple old gold coins. Are there honest dealers or collectors that will pay a fair price? Is it best to value them by weight or by collectability? Thanks for any information.
Weight or collectability.....we'll check for collectables first then weight! But am wondering about how to find a dealer or collector. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Coin values are a combination of rarity, condition, and collector interest. Please EDIT your question to provide more info on your coins.

Country, denomination, date, mint mark (if any, or if you do not know what to look for).

If a coin is common (large number minted) and heavily worn, it might only be worth gold or silver value. That is based on purity and weight, which is easily determined.

If a coin is rare, then it is worth selling to a coin dealer. If very rare, perhaps worth auctioning. You need to learn more before having any idea of the best way to sell.

For US coins, you can get a rough idea of how a collector would grade a coin from the site below.

  37. QUESTION:
What is the best way to sell old south african coins?

    • ANSWER:
Concurring with vanluna, eBay. This category in eBay has many listings for South African coins:

Coins & Paper Money - Coins: World - Africa

If you plan to double-list the coins under two categories, or consider listing it under another category, this one draws a lot of buyer attention:

Coins & Paper Money - Coins: World - Collections, Lots

Note that many higher denominations of South African coins were minted in part-silver, and these may have interest to bullion collectors/investors, as well as coin collectors. How much would it worth when you sell a 100 years old coins?
i have a collection of old coins and stamp and ready to make big buck out of it .Do people in ebay gives the highest bid or other where else

    • ANSWER:
ebay bidders are looking to get it for the lowest price they can. I am sorry to tell you that while you may have some very old coins, you may not have any valuable coins. The value is determined by the condition, their availability, certain mint markings etc.

I would suggest you get a current book on coins and try to determine if you have anything of value. If you do, get an appraiser to give you an estimated value and then sell them to coin collectors.

      Good luck.

The law states that any contract entered into by a minor is not legally enforceable, meaning that if a minor sold coins to a shop and then the parents showed up at the shop, claiming that the child took and sold the coins without permission and demanded them back, the shop owner would have to comply, or be in a boatload of trouble. Were it someone of legal age, a deal is a deal, but not with a minor.

    • ANSWER:
I see by your Pulse info that you're in Chicago.

I'd suggest you try Harlan Berk first. They're downtown (I _think_ they're on State St.) I didn't see a phone # on their web site, but you might want to give them a call to confirm their location.
