Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Places To Sell Jewelry

When selling handmade crafts online, most people instantly think of etsy.com or artfire.com. Both are absolutely great places to set up an online handmade craft shop. But simply creating a shop won't get your handmade crafts noticed by shoppers or the sales you want.

You must use effective marketing techniques that will drive targeted traffic to your shop. Sounds easy right! Well online marketing isn't as easy as it may sounds. There are a variety of techniques, search engine optimization, link building, pay-per-click campaigns, social networking, email campaigns and the list goes on and on.

Some handmade artists believe that simply having a blog where they blog about their handmade crafts will get them noticed. And unfortunately blogging doesn't always get you noticed either.

I actually takes a combination of all of the online marketing techniques above to get your online handmade craft shop noticed. These techniques also require a lot of time and some require a good deal of money. I know this because I manage the online marketing campaign for HandmadeCraftShow.com, an online virtual craft show that markets handmade artists and their online shops.

Using a variety of online marketing techniques we have been able to launch a very aggressive marketing campaign that has taken us to 0 to 17,000 unique visitors per month. As the popularity of our site grows we are expecting that number to soon double and then triple.

HandmadeCraftShow.com has one main focus and that is to market handmade crafts. Our unique setup is different from other virtual craft shows and handmade artists and buyers have taken noticed. New handmade artists are always adding their online shops because they understand that this is the easiest and most affordable way to market their online shops.

If you are needing visitors to your online shop then I encourage you to join our virtual craft show and let us do the marketing for you. This way you can stay focus on your day job or adding more handmade craft items to your shop.

what are some reputable places to sell jewelry?
I have a 10 carat bracelet that came from kay jewelers. where are some places in Phoenix, AZ that are reputable that wont scam me over?

    • ANSWER:
One option is to sell it on consignment. This way, you set the price, and a jeweler that you trusts shows the bracelet around for you.

That said, do not expect to get anywhere close to what you paid for it or what it appraised at. Expect to pay the consigning jeweler a fee for the transaction, and make sure you get a receipt. Ask the jeweler about how it is stored and for assurances that it will not leave the premises.

If you don't need the money, you can speak with a custom jeweler about resetting it. One idea would be to make stacking eternity bands with it...

  22. QUESTION:
Where should I sell my gold jewelry?
I hear that the best places to sell gold jewelry are brokerage firms or estate jewelry houses. Where should I sell my gold to get the best price? And what are any tips for negotiating the best price when I am selling? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It all depends on what you have. If your jewelry is in nice shape and at least 14kt or 18kt gold, many estate jewelry buyers will express interest and pay a bit better.

If the jewelry is damaged, or common pieces you still see in chain stores, you might as well sell it for gold weight...and in that case watch the gold markets for a nice gold spike because gold is paid on closing price.

Also, look into some private jewelry stores. Sometimes they do consignment for a percentage and you could maximize your dollar out of that.

      Hope that helps...

  23. QUESTION:
What's a good place to sell high quality handmade jewelry other than Etsy?
I've been making jewelry for years and I finally decided to go out and start selling. I set up an Etsy site but all I've gotten is people stealing my designs. My pieces are not very expensive and I know they are not heinous. Are there any good places online to sell my jewelry or am I better off setting up a towel at the park?

    • ANSWER:
Do you have any jewelry supply stores or boutiques that sell designs from outside designers in your area? I have heard of several people who sell their jewelry at local boutiques and small craft stores. Another option is selling on ebay. although most people try to go to places like etsy for handmade goods, you may be successful on ebay. You may also want to try starting your own private website. This can be tricky because there is not much traffic at independent sites in general; however, if your are willing to spend time and money on advertising this may be a good choice. If none of the above options suites you, you may want to consider selling at bead shows and craft fairs. the only drawback to this option is that you must be a "people person" to be successful.

Where is a good place to sell handmade jewelry other than Ebay?
I have been looking for somewhere to sell my handmade jewelry, but Ebay charges each time you enter it in to auction, and none of the local stores around here buy jewelry from individuals. Where would be a good cheap place to sell my jewelry?

    • ANSWER:
Personal website either .com or Myspace profile - though to attract attention make sure you offer something original to draw customers, simply making general jewellery won't give your store the appeal factor it requires to draw in customers - people seek original items they cannot purchase anywhere else. Work with companies such as LoveBites and Bruises - they offer free advertising for customers who make DIY jewellery and want to sell it on Myspace etc.

Where is the best place to sell estate jewelry and coins for the best return?
Of course we all know that gold is over 00 per ounce, but if you go to a pawn shop you are only to get half of that if you are lucky. Where would you go to get the best return for the estate? Coins and jewelry both.

    • ANSWER:
Pawn shops use your gold as collateral against money paid to you, which you must return and then you get your gold back. Jewelry shops will give you hardly anything for it. I would suggest you use reputable estate jewelry buyers. If you are in or around NY, try Fabrikant Fine Diamonds - ask them for an assessment first. If the price is agreeable to you, then you can move forward with the deal. Hope you get a good price!

  38. QUESTION:
where can i find a place to sell my homemade jewelry?
i asked this question yesterday but i want to be able to sell my jewelry at no cost at all. etsy would've been good but to sell you have to pay a little bit of money. does anyone else no where i can sell my jewelry at no cost to me at all?

    • ANSWER:
There's not that many places where you can sell for free. If you want to start a business, you need to invest a little bit of money into it. Here are some possible places to sell:

      Starting your own website:
This is probably one of the most expensive ways to sell your jewelry. You have to buy a domain, buy a hosting plan, get someone to design the site for you and make it ecommerce friendly. Also, it's harder to advertise because you're not already on an established website like Etsy and Artfire that gets millions of views a month.

      Etsy:
Etsy only costs 20 cents per listing and only takes about 3% of each item you sell. It's easy to use and there's a lot of very helpful sellers on there.

      Artfire:
It's free to start an account and sell. It has no listing fees. The downside, though, is for a free account, you can only have up to 12 listings, which can turn customers away (I've noticed a lot of customers like variety).

      Bigcartel:
Same with this site. It's free to start an account and sell. It also has no listing fees, but it only lets you have 5 listings at a time on a free account.

      Ebay:
This is another very expensive place to sell your items. They charge an initial listing fee. They also charge 12% closing fee for items between [FAQ-ANSWER]-.

Overall, I really think you should consider Etsy. Even though I'm still new to it, I've had a lot of luck with that website. My second choice would be Artfire. Good luck!

  39. QUESTION:
Where is the best place to sell broken gold jewelry?
I have a broken gold necklace and want to sell it. However, I have seen in many news stories that those gold buyers in the mall, and on TV, are scammers and only give you a fraction of the gold's actual worth. Who should I look to sell to? Jewelry store?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, do not go to one of the places that pay you a portion of what ever gold is selling for via the stock market. The "Cash for Gold" places will scam you for as little as 30% of what the true price of gold is that day.

Every city has one place in town that pays what ever the stock market (or very very close to what the stock market is that day) is at that day. So if you have an ounce of gold, and gold is at 1,100, they will give you 1,100. They then sell sell it to a guy who melts it down and makes it into rings, and triples the price and resales it at places like Kay Jewelers (huge scam btw).

So what you need to do is call around to each place in town that buys gold and ask them how much they pay. Usually the best one is just called "Gold and Silver" and is not a pawn shop. A pawn shop will give you about 40-60% on gold. Make some calls. And do not look on Craigslist for a private buyer, they pay about 80% of the true price--all they do is run to the gold shop and make 20% off what you just sold.

      Hope this helps.

  45. QUESTION:
Best place to sell old jewelry?
I have a lot of gold and gemstone jewelry that I no longer wear. Mostly from ex-boyfriends. Where is the best place to sell to get the most $$? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Actually, with so much competition between wholesalers and retailers on Ebay, it is not the best venue if you are looking for the most $$$ from what you have. My suggestion, contact some private jewelry stores in your area ( not the chains like Zales or Sterling ), ask about consignment. Most stores that work in consignment usually take 25%-30%. This way, you can set your price of what you want to get out of it. Suggestion though, research your items first and see what the average price of what you have is.

  50. QUESTION:
best way to sell fine jewelry?
how to sell fine jewelry, best places to sell it, how to make most profit

    • ANSWER:
I don't know if you mean sell a set number of pieces you have to make a bit of cash or if you mean do it as a business? Selling some secondhand jewellery can be tough to get a good price, eBay is as good a place as any.

If you mean do it as a business here is my advice:
It is probably the kind of thing people need to see for you to sell it well so consider having a stall at a jewellery fair or trade fair. Show your work to literally everyone you meet, take examples with you and get out and meet as many people as you can. I know it might sound strange but go to business networking meeting and other structured social clubs or gatherings just to get in front of more people to tell them and show them your jewellery.

A website or even a blog is a must and eBay is always handy for selling items like this. Look at wordpress.com for creating a really easy and great site/blog. In regards to profit I think you can often pick your price for the right things if people want it and its a premium product they will pay premium prices. You could also do some Market research by just asking some friends and family what they would pay for certain items, let them pick a price out of the air don't lead them, then set the average price.

If things go well you could also consider renting a shop in the right location. With fine jewellery it's the kind of thing people need to see to appreciate so just get your jewellery in front of as many people as you can.

      The best of luck :-)
