     Collecing coper wireing from deserted houses is theft and will get you thrown in jail.
     Collecting cans and selling books are you best choices.

     You take it to a scrap metal dealer or yard and sell it to them by the pound. If you have different metals they need to be sorted. They'll pay you more for aluminum and copper than for scrap iron so it's to your benefit to sort the metal.

     Yes, but the value compare to a regular piece of wire, it will be lesser since it has that light bulb.
     Here in NYC, we buy scrap wires in the dollar range. But for the Christmas tree light...might be 10-20 cents less.

     Check with your local land fill most will let you drop them off in special areas for nothing, you could check a scrap yard but it would be worth a few. bucks. not enough to mess with.

     if you do some dismantling and sorting yourself at home you will be paid more

     microwave and push bike will likely be classed as light iron

     please note burning cable is illegal

     yards wont allow you to dismantle or sort on premises

     aluminium drink cans are lucrative
     aluminium is white and non magnetic -foil -cans - extrusions - castings
     iron is magnetic
     cast iron is a premium grade of iron
     stainless steel
     brass yellow or white brass
     zinc castings looks like aluminium only much denser
     nickel brass dosn`t bring a fair price in my opinion
     light iron
     mixed iron

   I have two old digital cameras anywhere I can scrap them in for cash?
   One is fairly knocked about and neither work very well at all and I have no idea what to do with them.
   One now doesn't actually work at all :-/
   When I say Scrap I mean somewhere that will want the parts or something as they are not in a re-saleable condition...so pawn shops or charity shops wont really be any good

     There is a camera dealer, KEH (see link below, that takes trade ins on used cameras but from what you state, these are likey not cameras they are interested.

     I think your best option is to sell them in with a "garage sale' state of mind, that is to say, at least get a few dollars for them.

     I would try to sell them online, using photo.net that has a classified area, perhaps yahoo has a for sale section, maybe craigslist or maybe even ebay?

    Has the cash value of scrap steel dropped recently?
    I'm in the Chicago area. I just brought in 810 lbs of scrap steel, and got 56.00 for it. That comes to 140.00 a ton. I seem to recall a few weeks ago that I brought in about 400 lbs of steel, and got about 40.00 for it. That would be 200.00 a ton. Am I wrong, or did the price drop? Or did I get screwed? I went to S&S Metal Recyclers in Aurora, IL, in case anyone is familiar with that place.

      No, I never have heard of that. Do you have their name, telephone # and mailing address? Call first, then if they do not respond, turn them into your State's Attorney General. They have a fraud division.

      you may find that the scrap value of the copper and aluminum in a window unit , may not be worth the effort- if you have someone reclaim the refrigerant. And you can not vent the refrigerant. Some municipality's offer to take this type of refuse free as part of your garbage reclamation process.

      they will never give you a fair price for scrapping, its pretty much like pawning and most pawns are stolen crap people dont care about, if its worth any thing sell it on the internet, or some sort of yard sale, or farmers market

      That's entirely up to the recycling center. Around where I live, a "recycling" center is where you DONATE things, hoping they can be used again. In fact, many of the recycling centers I know of actually *charge* to take away things like old computers, air conditioners, refrigerators, etc.

      You'll have to call the particular recycling center you're planning to use and ask them what their payment policies are.

      deposit your cash into your bank account at a bank. If you don't have one get one. Then once you build up your account you can ask the bank for a credit card. Once you demonstrate that you can pay your credit card on time and without default, you can ask for a loan. Make sure you go to a reputable bank. In us, bank accounts are insured by the FDIC so your money won't disappear. Hopefully they have something like that in India. good luck.

      Anywhere that sets aside empty aluminum cans can score you a few bags. Construction sites are a great place to find copper, wire scraps, and plumbing parts. (Make sure you ask permission to just "tidy" up instead of stealing it) Going to a public shooting range is a great place to collect brass (empty shells and rounds) which is fairly valuable. Other than that just keep an eye out while driving around and put an ad up on craigslist. Hope that helps.

      If you want it for free, advertise for free pickup and disposal service; if you simply want to buy some cheap and recycle it, find an agent who buys and re-sells scrap metal. It is usually called a "scrap yard".

      They drain the oil out of perfectly good cars (NOT CLUNKERS), replace it with sodium silicate, kill the engine and scrap the car. Cars with many more years of driving to go. Cars that could have been used for parts to keep other vehicles going. If you want the government money, this is what they'll do to your car.

      This is one of the most wasteful things I've ever seen in my life. It takes more money and energy to destroy an old car (Like the Volvo in the video) and build a new car than it does to keep the C4C cars on the road.

      If you can scrape up some flour you can make a mother sauce of bechamel (butter, minced onion, flour, milk, s&p) and then vary it with each and every one of you vegetable ingredient to make differing soups or sauce.Or use all the veggies and make a chowder. Add cheese to the white sauce and use this as a spaghetti sauce (the mushrooms and garlic would be nice here if you've got it).
      I haven't mentioned the eggs yet and think that they have as much or even more potential for dishes, but will wait for other imaginations to respond. Bon appetit!

    hey, i'm a jus a 17 yr old kid trying to make a buck here, it occured to that i could make a little extra cash selling scrap metal, but i know very little about the whole industry. last summer 1 gross ton of scrap metal was being baught for 520 usd from where i live, now its 100 per gross ton, i want to know what type of fluctuation i can expect, i have a decent amount of metal ryt now to sell, should i sell now regardless of the price, or should i wait for it to rise, will it rise again?

      The question you need to ask yourself is, "What type of metal do you have?" If it's only iron/light tin, then the price will not change drastically unless you are willing to wait a year of so. So sell now unless you expect it to raise drastically.( I have a hard time believing that last summer scrap metal was selling for 520/gross ton near your home, because that was in the middle of the biggest depression since the 1930s. You may have been misled by the yard owners.)

      If you have copper, you don't have to sell right now...but spend your time collecting more copper if you can. Copper's price will most likely go up, or stay the same.

      You should spend your time breaking down whatever possible so you can sell it for more value. Normally copper sells for .00/lbs, aluminum/zinc are [FAQ-ANSWER].50/lbs, Electric motors/transformers are $.30/lbs. Call your local scrap yard to see what their prices are.

    A company owns several vehicles that are several years old, do not generate cash and could only be sold for scrap.

      there may be a reason why they have been sold for scrap perhaps it is because they have be taken advantage of for tax purposes and now to sell them they would have to pay more that they would generate in cash. The way that you do it is you use the figures that they were sold for and that is the current value

      There are places that will take them but they will charge you money to take them off your hands. That is why they are laying around on your property, because no one wants them. If there was money to be made then someone would have snapped them up a long time ago.

      You need a truck or van. Go to all the gas stations and look in thier dumpsters or just ask them for any old parts they are throwing away if you can have them. While driving from station to station look along the curb at the garbage people are throwing away like refridgerators, air conditioners or anything metal.Look in local phone book for Scrap metal yards or recycleing yards .When you pull in you drive onto a huge scale then dump it on a pile , drive back onto scale get weighed again & that is how they determine how much to pay you.It goes buy the pound & changes everyday.It is determined by the stock market prices for metal.My husband makes anywhere from .00 - 0.00 pr day.

    Is chain-link fencing made of aluminum?
    I have a large roll of the fence material itself (no posts or anything) that I don't need, and I was wondering if it were made of aluminum so I can take it to the scrap yard for cash? Aluminum goes for around $.60/pound where I live.

      No, it is made with steel with a galvinized coating to prevent rust. If that coating gets scraped/worn away, that area will rust, therefore it is not aluminum. Also, a magnet will attach to chainlink.

YET, NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP ME PROVE HIS INCOME!!! Any idea where I should go next with the info I have? First hearing is coming up May 15, 2008. (Just happens to be our EX- Wedding Anniversary..... Isn't that sweet?!?!?!?!?) Any federal organizations anyone has had luck with? that actually took you seriously or investigated complaints? I need all the help I can get on this one.

      To prove cash income you have to work backwards.. you document the expenditures, and then it's on them to show how they're paying for all of that.

      Utilities, car payments, house payment, gas, travel, vacations, clothing, food, hobbies, boats, etc etc.. if their average total monthly expenditures are 00, and they're reporting income of 00, well, they're screwed.
