     Banks do not sell gold, and they are not precious metals dealers. That's what gives. They have checking/saving/CDs etc. In other words, bank stuff.
     For gold, go to kitco, the u.s. mint, or a coin dealer. You want physical gold, either pay the commission, or buy the GLD etf.

     If it's worth a good chunk of change, you might take it to Bonham & Butterfield's. They do auctions about four times a year.

     Get it appraised somewhere, but tell them it's not for insurance purposes (which is always a good deal higher) so you can get a better idea of its worth.

     I don't know of stores that buy outright, but be aware that they would not give you retail price.

     If you are looking to sell retail, I would suggest you get booths at many of the innumerable fairs and events that take place throughout the Bay Area. I have a friend that does paper goods, one that does jewelry and one that does pottery who all make excellent livings at retailing their stuff at these. They easily make over 100k a year doing it. It takes a fair amount of evening and weekend work though.

     I have done business with Witter Coins in SF and found the owner to be both fair and honest. He's listed in the phone book yellow pages.

   I've given it some thought, and concluded that it be better if I got one, made out of high quality materials- like gold, for instance. But what specific store in San Francisco or the Bay Area offers these types of rings? Would any of you know? Thank You in advance, for your help!
   The reason why I don't want to purchase one from just any store- like Claire's for instance, is because I want it to last till my wedding day, when my husband will replace the ring with a wedding ring. Getting a cheap one may give the impression that you are doing it for a fad. To me, it's not a piece of jewelry- like my crucifix. If I wanted to wear a necklace that I liked, I'd wear my crucifix together with it, since the former is not a piece of jewelry in the first place.

   How much can I expect to get for a 1904 @ 1/2 dollar gold coin in almost unc condition?
   I also have Morgan dollars, Peace dollars, Walking Liberties and mercury dimes all in good to VG condition. How should I sell them--in bulk or a little at a time? To a coin dealer or road dealer? Any input as to how to get the most money without getting ripped off would be helpful. I'm not interested in devoting the rest of my life in numismatics. I live in the San Francisco area.

   • ANSWER:
     Most dealers will pay you a fair price for your coins. The coins all have silver or gold which makes them desirable.

     It costs to join a local coin club. The members buy and sell among themselves at their monthly meetings. You can sometimes find someone who pays more than a dealer since they want exactly what you have.

     The gold coin is worth 0 just for the gold. The condition raises that to between 5 and 0.

   I also have this 1932 Half Eagle Indian Head five dollar gold coin but with what I've read, Half eagles come in 1908-1929 dates only. So, is this coin fake?

     Approx. 0 for the non filipino stuff, and yes, the five dollar piece is fake. The 1897-s barber is worth 0 dollars just by itself (if it is really VF). Early filipino stuff is rare but finding a buyer is a little hard.

   Chemistry conversion factor problem?

   His servant, Cameron, wanted to be rich so he took 2 liters of the gold and buried it. He forgot it.
   Cameron's great grandchild found it. If gold was selling for 5.62/an ounce, how much money could this be cashed in for?

   Volume of cylinder= πr^2h (pi R squared h)
   Volume of sphere= 4πR^3/3 (4 * pi * R cubed)

   Au= 19.3 grams/cm^3
   1 pound= 453.6 grams
   16 oz= 1 lb

   Pleeease help, I can't figure this out! I don't understand how to find the pool's volume, or even how to solve the problem.

     (2 liters) x (1000 cm^3/liter) x (19.3 g/cm^3) / (453.6 g/pound) x (16 oz / pound) x (5.62 / oz) = million
     after rounding to the correct number of significant digits.

     The volume of the pool doesn't help answer the question.

9. QUESTION:
   Poll: Are you more likely to buy singles, albums, or both?
   Albums used to so much more popular. Now it seems that most albums that are being sold are singles albums, i.e. greatest hits albums. It's just that there are so many more singles being sold over albums now days - when albums include the single and other songs I don't really understand why. Yes, the songs that aren't singles may not be as catchy or as easy to understand, but them being a mystery is kind of a good thing in some way. And sure, the album is more expensive than the single, but the single might have five tracks at the most on it, while the album has at least usually ten.

   I mean, in 2001 Drops of Jupiter the album sold two million, while the single did very well too it didn't sell half of the album. In contrast, in 2009 Save Me San Francisco, the album, hasn't even gone gold, but the lead single from it, Hey Soul Sister, has already gone triple platinum.

   I mean, just after Train had three platinum albums I think they thought they were more of a band for albums rather than singles. However, their fourth album failed to produce a big hit and was their first album not to go platinum. I think that's why they changed because they went from being an albums band, to really being a singles band. If you listen to their fourth album, For Me It's You, it's very linear. All the songs sound similar to each other (almost too much...). But if you listen to Save Me San Francisco, even though they are claiming they weren't trying to make a hit you can tell that they really were. Every song on that album tries to be a high point of the album, and it's all very different. It's obviously Train's least uniformed album, which is also kind of sad because listening to the album as a whole doesn't make you feel anything different than listening to each song individually, for the most part (there is a nice transition from If It's Love to You Already Know, but that's it).

   Anyways, enough ranting. I just want to know: do you buy singles, albums, or both? I buy mostly albums (about 2/3 of my collection are LPs and 1/3 of my collection is greatest hits).
   I forgot about downloading music. Well, I download music too, but if I like it I buy it to support the artist. If I don't like it, I stop listening to it.

    Why are everyone saying Oakland is horrible ? In the past, there were a lot of killing innocent people and bandits roaring around streets, robbing houses and people are corrupt. They ride on those stagecoaches or steeds, not cars. Dirty streets, houses ruined, killings, robbing, loud, no school for poor only rich,etc. Oakland had been a place of have-nots and rich and cruel. They don't even give a penny to the poor .
    Now a day , it changed a lot but robbing, gun bangs, dirty street still exist but it is getting lesser and lesser. Oakland police noose all those gangs. Also a lot of people scaffold a home to children that is homeless or give out money to those have-nots. That is a good thing to do and it sure did helped a lot of people. Neighbors in Oakland helped to build schools for everyone, even poor and rich. In the past, rich people do hire poor but give so little money to them about 1 coin for an hour. Today, it was a lot different from those days, they give like about seven dollar the most an hour. These days can get a lot of money and good life and welfare, even butchers can get a lot of money just to sell meat. Today's Oakland is not so cruel from the past's Oakland.
    I still don't understand why people still say Oakland is terrible, since it changed a lot to good things ? San Francisco is cruel and rude too. Once, There were a Gold Rush and everyone came there to get gold but people in S.F force people from other states to dig for them. The worst thing is that they don't get gold for digging. Even though, there is no killing or people dieing, that don't mean it is not cruel to innocent people. Compare San Francisco to Oakland, I still will pick Oakland.
    There is a lot of place meaner to people then Oakland. Such as, Germany, Japan, England. I will tell you why Japan is mean. Well, I should say Japan is a disguising, cruel, harmful, and mean place. If you have heard about the World War 2, then you know how disguising is Japan. World War 2 is about Japan having a war with China. Japan soldiers kidnap Chinese and let them suffer by cutting out their hands and feet or just hang them. Also by shotting a bullet right through their head and then they are dead. This is the worst thing that never change in Japan. At least Oakland did change bad things to good but Japan never did. I never heard a lot of rumors about Japan than Oakland. Why? Just can't figure it out.
    I think people that think Oakland is horrible or terrible, they are wrong. You can say the past's Oakland is cruel but you can't say today's Oakland is mean. Because I know that now a days had change a lot, and it is so different and nicer from Japan or other places. I know you will never believe that Oakland is nicer then the others, because your inside always have the hate that never can get out. So the only thing I can do is just say, in my believe, Oakland is nicer then others.

      That's a lot to write in another language. I would give it a 3. I understood what you were saying but there were a lot of grammatical errors. I don't think you're using the words "noose" and "scaffold" correctly. Those sentences did not make sense to me.

      I would have given you a 4 (better than 3), but I'm not sure why or how you could compare how a city was a couple of hundred years ago with how it is today. The people aren't the same, the culture is not the same. Only the geographical location is the same. That made the whole thing more confusing to me. Also, many of your examples are vague rather than concrete.

      Still, I think this is a lot to write and overall, it is comprehensible, even if there are many errors. That is normal when you're writing in another language.

    This passage is from around chapter three. The rest of the novel is written. It is a Fantasy. Gabriel is the main character, and has been shipped to a world called Thesia where he feels he doesn't belong. He is from San Francisco. Thank you for any and all suggestions...

    Grunden held the lid of the box closed with both hands in an exaggerated pose. Gabriel had a hard time believing whatever they were attempting to master could give them any problems. It was undoubtedly small judging by the shape of the container, and its voice sounded shrill as if to match its size. Why were they being so cautious? He decided to take a few steps toward the door anyway, just in case.

    Grunden slid the lid aside, and Frease artfully looped the cord around the creature. The noose tightened as Grunden pulled, and a tiny man struggled to breath. A choking noise came from the counter making Gabriel’s gut flutter.

    It was the smallest man Gabriel had ever seen. His height was only about six inches, and his hair and face were dirty. It seemed as though the trip to the shop had been rough on him, and now, with a noose around his neck, his discomfort was clearly exacerbated.

    “Stop it, you’re choking him!” Gabriel cried out to Frease who was tugging on the noose to get him out of the box.

    Frease let the rope dangle a bit in his hand, and the tiny man loosened the knot around his neck. The small man appeared to be alright except for the tousled hair, gasping breath, and dirty clothes he wore.

    “The creature speaks, don’t let it fool you. It will try to escape at the first chance it gets.” Grunden warned.

    The tiny man pleaded with his eyes at Gabriel, in an attempt to appeal to be the only sympathetic person in the room. Gabriel had to think fast. As small as the man was, he was still clearly a person, and Gabriel doubted the two men in the shop would see it that way. They had interest in “breeding” him as if he were an animal. Could he persuade them to just let him go instead? Or maybe he could help the man escape.

    “How much was the debt owed to you? This thing doesn’t look like he is a good enough catch to settle any debt. The creature is much too savage and a little puny.” Grunden said.

    “I will get a fair price for him one way or another.” Frease looked dejected as if the shopkeepers comment meant there would be no exchange between them.

    Gabriel felt into his pocket for the gold Miriam had given him. He knew he shouldn’t spend it, but what else could he do? He pulled out five gold coins.

    “Take my gold, and let me deal with him.” He handed the coins to Frease.

    Frease and Grunden both looked relieved, but after counting the coin, Frease rolled his old eyes.

    “Five Dracons? I was owed seven. Why would I sell the thing at a loss to myself?”

    Gabriel pulled out five more coins. “Make it ten then, and you will have made a profit for your troubles. Can I keep the leash?”

    Frease pondered the offer. At last, he nodded his head, and handed the leash to Gabriel. Gabriel then stood at the counter with the tiny man in his hand. He wasn’t sure what to do.

    “Um, I’m Gabriel. What’s your name?” he said to the tiny man.

    Frease began laughing and shaking his head. “You are trying to speak to the thing?”
    Gabriel ignored the old man.

    “What’s your name?” Gabriel asked again.

    The small voice was lower but could be heard clearly as he said, “Finn.”

    “Well Finn, if you’ll come with me, I need your help with something, and I would be willing to pay you if you require.” Gabriel took the noose off and kept his fingers crossed that the little man wouldn’t run for the door. He held out his hands as if to say “I’ll carry you” and Finn stepped over to him and sat down as if Gabriel’s fingers formed a stool.

    Frease was still laughing, and Grunden chimed in as Gabriel lifted Finn, and carried his new companion out of the shop.

      The important thing is that the novel is finished. Second-most-important is making sure all those little details are right, and if this piece is any judge, I think you're good to go. I would just check once more by reading the book yourself. Go through it like a newbie and say, "Um, why he is he doing that again?" or "Oh yeah I remember when he said XYZ in Chapter One! Yeah!"
