The price of gold has skyrocketed in the past several months, and many people are selling gold to make some extra cash. If you're interested in taking advantage of the value in your old jewelry, gold fillings and even scraps of gold from repairs or broken and damaged jewelry, these valuable tips can assure you'll get the best price possible without being taken advantage of.
First, familiarize yourself with the current price of gold per troy ounce. A troy ounce is just slightly more than a standard ounce that you would use in cooking. Troy ounces are used to weight precious metals and gemstones when selling gold or other fine metals and stones such as diamonds. The price for gold is based on troy ounces, and if you know what the going price is, you can knowledgeably compare the price being offered by each precious metals buyer. You'll get slightly less than the market price, since the buyer will be melting and reselling it or forming it into ingots, but it shouldn't be so far below that you feel you're being cheated.
Selling Gold to a Reputable Business
Look for a company that has been in business for at least five to ten years. The longer a company has been in business, the more likely it is you'll get a good price. Larger, more established companies deal in volume gold purchasing, so they can afford to offer a higher price and give you outstanding service. The company should also have a physical location that you can visit. With a bricks and mortar location that customers can contact or visit, you have some added protection in the event there's a problem selling gold. If the company doesn't have anything but a post office box and website, steer clear. They could be accepting jewelry from customers, selling the gold, and not reimbursing people.
You should choose a buyer that purchases all types of gold. Some of your jewelry and gold may be of different types. Eighteen karat gold is different from 10 karat gold, and the price will vary accordingly. Some gold buyers will only purchase gold that is fourteen karat or higher. Unfortunately, this may leave you with some pieces they won't buy. Class rings, for example, are often ten karat gold. If you want to be able to sell all of your gold jewelry as well as items such as gold fillings, look for a company that will purchase gold from eight karat on up to 24 karat gold.
Don't Be Forced Into Selling Gold
Be sure to review the company's policies on returns and right of refusal when selling gold. In other words, check to see if the company will return your gold if you refuse the price that is quoted. A trustworthy company won't force you into selling gold if you don't want to. The best companies will allow you to send your items to be evaluated, then quote you a price over the phone. At that time, you can either accept their offer, or turn it down. If you turn it down, it shouldn't cost you anything to have your gold returned to you.
If you're selling gold jewelry that has precious stones mounted in it, look for a company that can also reimburse you for your gemstones. Some companies only want the metal, and will simply dispose of precious stones or sell them without compensating you! A company's website will state clearly that they also purchase diamonds, gems and other metals such as sterling silver and platinum if they compensate for these items.
Keep in mind that the price of gold does fluctuate daily. Check out the website for any company you're considering. They should have the current gold prices posted clearly somewhere on their site. If they do, you're selling gold to a company that will give you a fair price and reward you with great service.

Banks do not sell gold, and they are not precious metals dealers. That's what gives. They have checking/saving/CDs etc. In other words, bank stuff.

Where is the best place to sell my ring in San Francisco ?
I want to sell my ring its Sapphire Gold And Small Diamond Where should i take it that they will give me a good offer I HATE LOW BALLERS
!-
ANSWER:
If it's worth a good chunk of change, you might take it to Bonham & Butterfield's. They do auctions about four times a year.Get it appraised somewhere, but tell them it's not for insurance purposes (which is always a good deal higher) so you can get a better idea of its worth.
I don't know of stores that buy outright, but be aware that they would not give you retail price.

QUESTION:
where can i sell my gold in san francisco area?
ring bands, necklace chains, stuff like that...-
ANSWER:
If you are looking to sell retail, I would suggest you get booths at many of the innumerable fairs and events that take place throughout the Bay Area. I have a friend that does paper goods, one that does jewelry and one that does pottery who all make excellent livings at retailing their stuff at these. They easily make over 100k a year doing it. It takes a fair amount of evening and weekend work though.

QUESTION:
Where in San Francisco can I find a store that sells good quality Purity Rings?
I've given it some thought, and concluded that it be better if I got one, made out of high quality materials- like gold, for instance. But what specific store in San Francisco or the Bay Area offers these types of rings? Would any of you know? Thank You in advance, for your help!
The reason why I don't want to purchase one from just any store- like Claire's for instance, is because I want it to last till my wedding day, when my husband will replace the ring with a wedding ring. Getting a cheap one may give the impression that you are doing it for a fad. To me, it's not a piece of jewelry- like my crucifix. If I wanted to wear a necklace that I liked, I'd wear my crucifix together with it, since the former is not a piece of jewelry in the first place.
To the person below over there, don't you think I'm here because I already tried to search for that on Google and came out with no results?I used to think that you didn't need to get a ring to show that you promised God, your husband, and yourself a chaste life till the day you marry, but the idea of wearing one and not being afraid to say out loud that you'll save sex for your husband, is a great way to inspire others to follow your league- and thereby, GOD.

ANSWER:
You know what purity rings make me think about? Sex.

QUESTION:
How much can I expect to get for a 1904 @ 1/2 dollar gold coin in almost unc condition?
I also have Morgan dollars, Peace dollars, Walking Liberties and mercury dimes all in good to VG condition. How should I sell them--in bulk or a little at a time? To a coin dealer or road dealer? Any input as to how to get the most money without getting ripped off would be helpful. I'm not interested in devoting the rest of my life in numismatics. I live in the San Francisco area.-
ANSWER:
Most dealers will pay you a fair price for your coins. The coins all have silver or gold which makes them desirable. It costs to join a local coin club. The members buy and sell among themselves at their monthly meetings. You can sometimes find someone who pays more than a dealer since they want exactly what you have.
The gold coin is worth 0 just for the gold. The condition raises that to between 5 and 0.

QUESTION:
Chemistry conversion factor problem?
Randolph Hearst filled his cylindrical shaped pool with hot liquid gold at his home in San Simeon, California, whic is 175.16 miles south of San Francisco.
His servant, Cameron, wanted to be rich so he took 2 liters of the gold and buried it. He forgot it.
Cameron's great grandchild found it. If gold was selling for 5.62/an ounce, how much money could this be cashed in for?Volume of cylinder= πr^2h (pi R squared h)
Volume of sphere= 4πR^3/3 (4 * pi * R cubed)Au= 19.3 grams/cm^3
1 pound= 453.6 grams
16 oz= 1 lbPleeease help, I can't figure this out! I don't understand how to find the pool's volume, or even how to solve the problem.
-
ANSWER:
(2 liters) x (1000 cm^3/liter) x (19.3 g/cm^3) / (453.6 g/pound) x (16 oz / pound) x (5.62 / oz) = million
after rounding to the correct number of significant digits. The volume of the pool doesn't help answer the question.

QUESTION:
Poll: Are you more likely to buy singles, albums, or both?
Albums used to so much more popular. Now it seems that most albums that are being sold are singles albums, i.e. greatest hits albums. It's just that there are so many more singles being sold over albums now days - when albums include the single and other songs I don't really understand why. Yes, the songs that aren't singles may not be as catchy or as easy to understand, but them being a mystery is kind of a good thing in some way. And sure, the album is more expensive than the single, but the single might have five tracks at the most on it, while the album has at least usually ten.I mean, in 2001 Drops of Jupiter the album sold two million, while the single did very well too it didn't sell half of the album. In contrast, in 2009 Save Me San Francisco, the album, hasn't even gone gold, but the lead single from it, Hey Soul Sister, has already gone triple platinum.
I mean, just after Train had three platinum albums I think they thought they were more of a band for albums rather than singles. However, their fourth album failed to produce a big hit and was their first album not to go platinum. I think that's why they changed because they went from being an albums band, to really being a singles band. If you listen to their fourth album, For Me It's You, it's very linear. All the songs sound similar to each other (almost too much...). But if you listen to Save Me San Francisco, even though they are claiming they weren't trying to make a hit you can tell that they really were. Every song on that album tries to be a high point of the album, and it's all very different. It's obviously Train's least uniformed album, which is also kind of sad because listening to the album as a whole doesn't make you feel anything different than listening to each song individually, for the most part (there is a nice transition from If It's Love to You Already Know, but that's it).
Anyways, enough ranting. I just want to know: do you buy singles, albums, or both? I buy mostly albums (about 2/3 of my collection are LPs and 1/3 of my collection is greatest hits).
I forgot about downloading music. Well, I download music too, but if I like it I buy it to support the artist. If I don't like it, I stop listening to it.-
ANSWER:
I mostly buy albums I include a few singles sometimes *

QUESTION:
Can you understand what am i saying? Rate 1-5 .?
OAKLANDWhy are everyone saying Oakland is horrible ? In the past, there were a lot of killing innocent people and bandits roaring around streets, robbing houses and people are corrupt. They ride on those stagecoaches or steeds, not cars. Dirty streets, houses ruined, killings, robbing, loud, no school for poor only rich, etc. Oakland had been a place of have-nots and rich and cruel. They don't even give a penny to the poor .
Now a day , it changed a lot but robbing, gun bangs, dirty street still exist but it is getting lesser and lesser. Oakland police noose all those gangs. Also a lot of people scaffold a home to children that is homeless or give out money to those have-nots. That is a good thing to do and it sure did helped a lot of people. Neighbors in Oakland helped to build schools for everyone, even poor and rich. In the past, rich people do hire poor but give so little money to them about 1 coin for an hour. Today, it was a lot different from those days, they give like about seven dollar the most an hour. These days can get a lot of money and good life and welfare, even butchers can get a lot of money just to sell meat. Today's Oakland is not so cruel from the past's Oakland.
I still don't understand why people still say Oakland is terrible, since it changed a lot to good things ? San Francisco is cruel and rude too. Once, There were a Gold Rush and everyone came there to get gold but people in S.F force people from other states to dig for them. The worst thing is that they don't get gold for digging. Even though, there is no killing or people dieing, that don't mean it is not cruel to innocent people. Compare San Francisco to Oakland, I still will pick Oakland.
There is a lot of place meaner to people then Oakland. Such as, Germany, Japan, England. I will tell you why Japan is mean. Well, I should say Japan is a disguising, cruel, harmful, and mean place. If you have heard about the World War 2, then you know how disguising is Japan. World War 2 is about Japan having a war with China. Japan soldiers kidnap Chinese and let them suffer by cutting out their hands and feet or just hang them. Also by shotting a bullet right through their head and then they are dead. This is the worst thing that never change in Japan. At least Oakland did change bad things to good but Japan never did. I never heard a lot of rumors about Japan than Oakland. Why? Just can't figure it out.
I think people that think Oakland is horrible or terrible, they are wrong. You can say the past's Oakland is cruel but you can't say today's Oakland is mean. Because I know that now a days had change a lot, and it is so different and nicer from Japan or other places. I know you will never believe that Oakland is nicer then the others, because your inside always have the hate that never can get out. So the only thing I can do is just say, in my believe, Oakland is nicer then others.-
ANSWER:
That's a lot to write in another language. I would give it a 3. I understood what you were saying but there were a lot of grammatical errors. I don't think you're using the words "noose" and "scaffold" correctly. Those sentences did not make sense to me.I would have given you a 4 (better than 3), but I'm not sure why or how you could compare how a city was a couple of hundred years ago with how it is today. The people aren't the same, the culture is not the same. Only the geographical location is the same. That made the whole thing more confusing to me. Also, many of your examples are vague rather than concrete.
Still, I think this is a lot to write and overall, it is comprehensible, even if there are many errors. That is normal when you're writing in another language.

QUESTION:
Please read and critique. Sending to editor soon and need suggestions.?
This passage is from around chapter three. The rest of the novel is written. It is a Fantasy. Gabriel is the main character, and has been shipped to a world called Thesia where he feels he doesn't belong. He is from San Francisco. Thank you for any and all suggestions...Grunden held the lid of the box closed with both hands in an exaggerated pose. Gabriel had a hard time believing whatever they were attempting to master could give them any problems. It was undoubtedly small judging by the shape of the container, and its voice sounded shrill as if to match its size. Why were they being so cautious? He decided to take a few steps toward the door anyway, just in case.
Grunden slid the lid aside, and Frease artfully looped the cord around the creature. The noose tightened as Grunden pulled, and a tiny man struggled to breath. A choking noise came from the counter making Gabriel’s gut flutter.
It was the smallest man Gabriel had ever seen. His height was only about six inches, and his hair and face were dirty. It seemed as though the trip to the shop had been rough on him, and now, with a noose around his neck, his discomfort was clearly exacerbated.
“Stop it, you’re choking him!” Gabriel cried out to Frease who was tugging on the noose to get him out of the box.
Frease let the rope dangle a bit in his hand, and the tiny man loosened the knot around his neck. The small man appeared to be alright except for the tousled hair, gasping breath, and dirty clothes he wore.
“The creature speaks, don’t let it fool you. It will try to escape at the first chance it gets.” Grunden warned.
The tiny man pleaded with his eyes at Gabriel, in an attempt to appeal to be the only sympathetic person in the room. Gabriel had to think fast. As small as the man was, he was still clearly a person, and Gabriel doubted the two men in the shop would see it that way. They had interest in “breeding” him as if he were an animal. Could he persuade them to just let him go instead? Or maybe he could help the man escape.
“How much was the debt owed to you? This thing doesn’t look like he is a good enough catch to settle any debt. The creature is much too savage and a little puny.” Grunden said.
“I will get a fair price for him one way or another.” Frease looked dejected as if the shopkeepers comment meant there would be no exchange between them.
Gabriel felt into his pocket for the gold Miriam had given him. He knew he shouldn’t spend it, but what else could he do? He pulled out five gold coins.
“Take my gold, and let me deal with him.” He handed the coins to Frease.
Frease and Grunden both looked relieved, but after counting the coin, Frease rolled his old eyes.
“Five Dracons? I was owed seven. Why would I sell the thing at a loss to myself?”
Gabriel pulled out five more coins. “Make it ten then, and you will have made a profit for your troubles. Can I keep the leash?”
Frease pondered the offer. At last, he nodded his head, and handed the leash to Gabriel. Gabriel then stood at the counter with the tiny man in his hand. He wasn’t sure what to do.
“Um, I’m Gabriel. What’s your name?” he said to the tiny man.
Frease began laughing and shaking his head. “You are trying to speak to the thing?”
Gabriel ignored the old man.“What’s your name?” Gabriel asked again.
The small voice was lower but could be heard clearly as he said, “Finn.”
“Well Finn, if you’ll come with me, I need your help with something, and I would be willing to pay you if you require.” Gabriel took the noose off and kept his fingers crossed that the little man wouldn’t run for the door. He held out his hands as if to say “I’ll carry you” and Finn stepped over to him and sat down as if Gabriel’s fingers formed a stool.
Frease was still laughing, and Grunden chimed in as Gabriel lifted Finn, and carried his new companion out of the shop.

ANSWER:
Looks good to me
The important thing is that the novel is finished. Second-most-important is making sure all those little details are right, and if this piece is any judge, I think you're good to go. I would just check once more by reading the book yourself. Go through it like a newbie and say, "Um, why he is he doing that again?" or "Oh yeah I remember when he said XYZ in Chapter One! Yeah!"

QUESTION:
THE CALL TO ARMS! The War on Christmas is underway! Are you prepared to fight?
I was watching Fox News and I'm now convinced that Liberals have declared an all-out war on Christmas. It is under siege. In Liberal cities like San Francisco & Berkeley, Christmas trees have been banned. Selling or putting up a Christmas tree in those cities will get you put in prison. Al Gore has called Christmas lights "illegal" and stated they contribute to Global Warming. Obama fled to Hawaii to avoid the "White Christmas" that will be hitting much of the Northeast and parts of the South in the form of a snowstorm.
So we Conservatives need to dig our foxholes and man our battle-stations. Get on the front lines!
So I will give some battle strategy to fellow Conservatives who need to spot the enemy. When you hear someone say "Happy Holidays" they are passing codewords indicating their deep hatred for Christmas. The insurgency against the Liberals has begun!
Loose lips sinks sleighs! When you ride in a Hybrid, you ride with the Grinch!
This is WAR people! Build your bomb shelters! Stock up on food rations! Liberals have declared war on Christmas and even though they may take away our ugly Christmas sweaters, they will NEVER take our FREEDOM!!!!
This is a DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY!!!!!
Brought to you by Goldline. Buy gold.

QUESTION:
Can someone translate this into German simple past tense?
Levi Strauss was a German-Jewish immigrant from the United States who founded the first company to manufacture blue jeans. His company, Levi Strauss & Co., began in 1853 in San Francisco, California.Levi Strauss was born Löb Strauß in Buttenheim, in the Franconian region of Bavaria, Germany, to Hirsch Strauss and his wife Rebecca (Haass) Strauss. At the age of 18, Strauss, his mother and two sisters sailed out for the United States to join his brothers Jonas and Louis, who had begun a wholesale dry goods business in New York City called J. Strauss Brother & Co. By 1850, Strauss was calling himself Levi.
The family decided to open a West Coast branch of the family dry goods business in San Francisco, which was the commercial hub of the California Gold Rush. Levi was chosen to represent the family, and after becoming an American citizen in January of 1853, he then caught another steamship for San Francisco, arriving in early March 1853.
Strauss opened his dry goods wholesale business as Levi Strauss & Co. and imported fine dry goods - clothing, bedding, combs, purses, handkerchiefs - from his brothers in New York. He sold the goods to the small general stores and men's mercantiles of California and the West. Around 1856 Levi's sister Fanny, her husband David Stern and their infant son Jacob moved from New York to San Francisco to join the business.
In late 1870 Jacob Davis, a Reno, Nevada tailor, started making men's work pants with metal points of strain for greater strength. He wanted to patent the process but needed a business helper, so he turned to Levi Strauss, from whom he purchased some of his fabric. On May 20, 1873, Strauss and Davis received United States patent for using copper rivets to strengthen the pockets of denim work pants. Levi Strauss & Co. began manufacturing the famous Levi's brand of jeans, using fabric from the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Levi Strauss died on September 26, 1902 at the age of 73. He never married, so he left the business to his four nephews, Jacob, Sigmund, Louis, and Abraham Stern, the sons of his sister Fanny and her husband David Stern. He also left bequests to a number of charities such as the Pacific Hebrew Orphan Asylum and the Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum. Levi's fortune was estimated to be around 6 million dollars. He was buried in Colma, California.
A Levi Strauss museum is maintained in Buttenheim, Germany, located in the 1687 house where Strauss was born. There is also a Visitors Center at Levi Strauss & Co. world headquarters in San Francisco, which features a number of historical exhibits.
Blue Jeans are now the most worn type of pants in the world. Levi Strauss and Co. is now a million dollar industry that sells their product in most of the countries in the world.
Levi Straus was one of the most intuitive people in this century. His company is recognized world wide, even in third world countries such as Ethiopia and Afghanistan.

QUESTION:
What brand and model of watch did you wear today and yesterday?
I now wear a LeCoultre "Futurematic" that debuted in 1953. It has a self-wind mechanical movement that displays hours, minutes, seconds and power reserve. It tells me my watch will run 30 more hours if I do not wind it by moving my wrist. It has an 18 karat yellow gold round case 36 mm in diameter with fancy Art Deco strap lugs and a disc on the back for setting the time, so there is no crown at 3.00 on the case band. The dial is champagne enamel with small gold triangle markers at the hours (2 larger ones at 12:00) and black dashes for minutes, larger at 5 minute intervals. It has two sub-dials. One at 3:00 on the main dial shows seconds, and one at 9:00 shows power reserve in hours. Hands are gold Dauphine-style in 3 sizes. The strap is sienna (reddish brown) crocodile skin with a gold buckle.
Yesterday, I wore a Tiffany & Co, "Classic" with manual-wind mechanical movement that displays hours, minutes and seconds (of solar mean time to be specific). It is just a bit smaller than the "Futurematic" with round 18kt. yellow gold case and plainer lugs. The dial is white enamel with gold bar hour markers but no minute markers. A sub-dial at 6:00 shows seconds. Hands are gold baton-style. The strap is black lizard skin with gold buckle.
Antoine LeCoultre began making watch movements in 1833. His grandson David LeCoultre took master watch-maker Edmund Jaeger as a partner at an uncertain date, probably about 1920-1927. I own 1952 and 1953 watches labeled "LeCoultre" and a 1956 one labeled "Jaeger-LeCoultre".
Charles Lewis Tiffany and John P. Young opened a department store in New York in 1837. Later, they took several partners, and the firm was incorporated as "Tiffany & Company" in 1851. They sold jewelry and introduced Patek Philippe watches to the USA. They eventually began making their own watches too. I once lived about 10 years 2.5 blocks from San Francisco's Tiffany & Co. store at about 450 Post Street I think.
5 POINTS FOR THE MOST THOUROUGH DESCRIPTION OF AN EXCELLENT WATCH!
There is quite contrast between the ladies' watches with none, a Timex, a Vacheron Constantin and a Russian Poljot. I own several Vacherons, including a 1902 railroad approved one with lever to set time, engraved gold hunter case and glass back to display the movement and a 2005 very limited-edition 250th anniversary model. Would you believe I have never owned a Timex? My brother has, however. Poljot was a name used on some waatches made by the Moscow Watch Co. that began in 1961 I think. Sturmanskie and Buran are other Soviet watch brands with some history. Now, Vostok Europe offer watches intended to be cheaper than Swiss ones but not as cheap as Chinese ones. Aviator is another current Russian brand. Tovaricha Olga, kak ti!
John, why do you think your watches stop? I have heard that some people have that problem. Some believe it is magnetism in their bodies. IWC was a pioneer in antimagnetic models with a series of 15 pilot's watches. Then, in 1976, IWC's "Ingenieur" resisted 80,000 Ampere/meters of magnetism with its shielded movement. That is 16.67 times the COsc standard for antimagnetic watches. In 1989, a 500,000 A/m "Ingenieur" appeared. Its critical parts were made of an alloy that resists magnetism. Production of said alloy ceased, so this model could no longer be made. In 2008, I saw some "Ingenieurs" that are still quite antimagnetic priced 00-00 in steel in two sizes. In 2009, I saw some Sinn watches that are rated 80,000 A/m priced 00 for a basic model to 00 for a chronograph, all in steel. You might check IWC and Sinn, who are the leaders in antimagnetic wristwatches now.-
ANSWER:
I just wear a plain and simple Timex...with a leather strap.I have had it for five years and it has not given me any problems....and I wear it every day. I just need a watch that is basic for every day use. It is oval and has a second hand to count the seconds. The strap is black leather and the is at least 10 years old.

QUESTION:
Care to read and criticize my poem? It's long, but criticism is welcome?
look who's selling out their hearts on the street
corners of Harlem
it's junkies intellectuals poets queers spies
anarchists marxists conservative socialists!
Housewives and husbands children elderly fools
bums chinamen buddhists christians hindus jews!
Whites blacks latinos orientals! The world! The world! oh-
the world is selling out her heart for the good
of God and heaven
and weeping perpetually on starry nights
on tiled rooftops on the streets paved and slick and shining on the bridge where I witnessed the motormobile accident-
three men stepped out of vehicles and lay down
their heart on the dripping pavement and loved
and forgave as young Zen Christs-oh
how I loved them and the moment that I danced in holier than thou exuberance! Love is the world-world is love's whore-whore's are love's nunnery-the priesthood is a clan of loveless whores-and the world is thus whoreless-woe to bearded beaded individuals who seek such company to
make love to in the dark-
and after hold moonlit conversations (they are
mad conversationists)-
in sweaty arms and twisted bed frames-
talking of love and 'will you read my poetry? I
wrote of the doom of San Francisco?' and 'I believe the San Andreas fault is the
way of bringing mexicali to the suburbs and
their grandchildren'-and talking of jazz and
marx-lenin and China rising-resurgent Russia-
airwaves screaming 'fear Russia!'-folly on
the part of capitalists-
and on a rooftop of raining gold,
the dove rests on the ark of my brow
and clucks dharma at midnight,
in midnight gold-
Drew-no, I did not steal this from anywhere, I did actually write this poem. I am, though, a huge fan of Kerouac; hence, the name Jack Duluoz. Don't worry, I don't take it personally. I'm glad you liked it.-
ANSWER:
Now I'm really curious who wrote this, you as in you or you as in Jack Duluoz. If it's not Kerouac it's a very convincing impression thereof. It certainly touches on all of the familiar Beat themes. If you did actually write this, then please forgive my suspicion, but this is so clearly superior to what we usually see here on Yahoo Answers that my first thought was that you must have stolen it from somewhere.
