Turn Your Old Gold Into Cash!

Sell Jewellery

Have you ever considered the option to sell gold jewellery in order to get some extra money? All of us have old stuff in the form of necklaces, brooches and earrings that we may have got tired of wearing or they may be no longer in fashion. It is also possible that some of them are broken and beyond repair. It is likely that till now, you may have decided against disposing of them, thinking that such expensive jewellery may not get you the price you want.

However the good news is that old jewellery, despite its vintage and condition can still get you a sizeable amount. You only need to sell them either online or through an auction. There will be enough takers in the form of buyers, who buy gold scrap.

Let us look at them in some detail:

a) Sale through auction sites to Collectors
If you have some vintage pieces of jewellery, then listing them on auction sites such as E-bay would be a good option. These are valued correctly by genuine collectors if the jewellery pieces are in good condition and can still be worn. The only down side to this method is that it works pretty well only with individual pieces of merit and can cost you money going through the process of opening an E-bay account and listing the items you wish to auction.

Taking the help of estate specialists to sell gold jewellery will also not serve the purpose since they would take their commission on any sale and if they decide to buy them, you still would not get a fair price for the items you have listed. Yard sales are also likely to give you similar results and in the absence of the right buyer, your items will not fetch a fair price. One precaution to take care is to ask for cash immediately if the buyer is a stranger. Make sure you also take down their personal identification data such as the drivers' license details, telephone number and so on.

b) Sale to buyers of scrap gold

This is by far the best option as there are many genuine companies willing to purchase scrap gold jewellery. They would then melt it and use it as they find appropriate in minting coins or bullion. Here you can get prices that are very close to the prevailing market rate and you would not have to do much legwork. Such genuine buyers will provide clear instructions on how to dispatch the jewellery and will also pay for the postage. On receipt, they would let you know the price they would be willing to pay and it is up to you to accept or reject the offer.

In your endeavor to sell gold jewellery, you would do well to also visit different sites and compare their offers for such gold scrap. If your gold jewellery has precious stones, then make sure you look for a different buyer for them. You can find buyers who would gladly purchase gold in the form of coins, fillings and even diamond rings. Rather than them occupying empty space in your drawer, disposing of them can earn you good money which would always be useful to you.

  1. QUESTION:
How much percent of jewellery appraisals should I expext if I sell to a jewellery buyer?
I know appraisals are inflated to the maximum for insurance purposes, and that If I sell jewellery, I cannot expect them to pay the full appraisal amount to me.

But how much should I expect? Not from a pawn shop, but from a jewellery/gold/silver buyer.

I am thinking about setting up a business in the USA importing very beautifully crafted Indonesian jewellery (necklaces, rings, bracelets), shoes/sandals, hand bags, printed table cloths, knick-knacks etc -- all made by the locals with cultural significance. I'm not sure what's the best way to establish a customer base to start selling these items and how to expand on it.

    • ANSWER:
You may want to try this website www.alibaba.com, it is a web trading site, there is a forum where people give quit good advise how to deal with trading world wide, especially the financial part as all international purchases are paid upfront there is likely quit a bit of money involved. So you need to be very carefull whom and what you deal with when you import.

Then I am sure that there are import regulations from Indonesia to the US, maybe in the form of taxes or duties, logistic expenses and so forward, be very carefull as many people have lost a lot of money "cause they were not well prepared. 12. QUESTION:
how best to sell jewellery on ebay?
i have LOADS of costume jewellery to sell on ebay, i used to be an avid jewellery queen but now am selling everything i can to make extra cash-whats the best way to sell jewellery? should i put it in mixed lots or sell it seperately? maybe free postage would inspire bids?does anyone have any experience selling this kind of thing?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi, Lynda.

I had to jump in, here. I'd use "costume jewelry" in the auction title.

Then I'd use an eye-catching headline.

Maybe put a few "bullet points" in to suggest possible benefits and uses. You can probably tell I know nothing about jewelry, but here goes nothing.

      Ahem. For example:

From the way he treated me, I thought this costume jewelry must be the real thing!

I never thought any woman would ever mistake this pretty necklace for the real thing, much less me. But then it happened.

Let me explain. Back when I was fortunate enough to keep these beautiful specimens of rather convincing costume jewelry, it made me feel like a queen for the day. Wearing these "lucky" gems, I didn't need the real thing at all.

And these gems may not be real, but they always make my eyes sparkle brighter. No woman would ever be fooled, but no man could ever mistake the look in my eye.

Ladies, all I can say is... in my personal experience, this necklace works. As far as I know, it makes me shine from the inside out. That's what my new husband tells me, anyway. I've enjoyed these for so many years. Lord knows. I even somehow found a good, sturdy man who treats me right. Fingers crossed, ladies.

I used to feel just like a princess wearing this studded jade marvel, as long as I remembered to buff it with a soft cloth right before the big night.

Well, I'll never part with all my favorites, or all the little memories. (I'll never tell him about them.) But it seems a shame to horde the lot. Especially since there are so many much younger women with no lucky "heirlooms" of their own.

I wanted to share some my bountiful trove with a few lucky bidders. It's only fair to him that I let go of the most dangerous and naughty ones. Let them go on to someone more adventurous. I only hope my good luck will rub off on you. Maybe some of the sparkle, too. If not, just send it back to me and we'll still be friends.

Here's a picture. It's not very good. You'll want to get to know the way it makes you look in the mirror before you make your final decision.

I wish you all the luck. If you ask, I'll happily tell you the stories behind them, as long as you can keep a secret. I love to hear from others on their journey through life. Especially if they appreciate a little adventure.

I'd like to earn just enough to take my honey out for his favorite treat: a Grande Cappucino, but I'm keeping all the rest of these little dazzlers for myself. It's okay. I still get to keep all the memories.

Since this is a "jade" necklace, please don't wear it with tacky colors. Pick something bright and daring, especially if you're an autumn like me.

Try to save it for special occasions like dance, the senior prom, or a friend's wedding. Otherwise you'll look overdressed. We don't want that.

You can wear it to a tennis match, but only if you're not playing, darling.

You can especially wear it to a polo match, or even the race track, as long as you intend to be noticed, but without raising too much suspicion.

Can you wear it with a pair of jeans? Tennis shoes? A t-shirt? Lying around the pool?

I'll let you be the artist and try it the way you like best. As for myself, if I don't have just the right accessory, I will wear it with nothing else. Which is exactly what gets me in trouble quickest.

      Good luck bidding. Cheers.

I want to sell jewellery online. I make the jewellery myself. What would be the best background to use ....?
..to show the jewellery at it's best. I don't want to show it worn, or not on me at least ! Are there any tricks or tips ? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
A friend put her jewelry against a white background. It did not show up at all. She was advised to switch to black velvet, light up the jewelry well, and to have the camera close, if that is your purpose.. It worked, her display looks like a pro did it. She sells it on etsy.
She put things under the jewelry to hold it in place, so it would not shift around. One could pin it from underneath too, so the pins would not show.

If your jewelry happens to be black, just find a contrasting material that shows it to advantage, maybe a ruby red.

    • ANSWER:
Try the first site below, go to the interactive map and it will show you any craft events it has listed in your area. If that doesn't work try the Craft and Design Magazine although I think they only give away the up coming months listings.
