     Well, I'm like you, interesed in jewelry industry, but i have no experience. I take it as a hobby. So, all i could to do is learn how to run a business, write business plan, research the market, where to find stock, market the product, etc. Remember, since you're new to this, you might want to start small. Setup a web store, update with a few products, test it by attracting visitors with advertising. See if they'll convert to costumers.      Retail stores usually double the price of the item.It would depend on what arrangement you could agree with the owner.I live by my own set of rules.Be confident in your talent,and do you research.

     It depends on how small of a diamond we are talking about. Most jewelry stores don't really buy used jewelry anymore. A few things I would consider though:
     craigslist. No cost to sell but would only be local
     Ebay: fees associated and an adult would have to register for you
     Pawn shop. They will buy it but most likely screw you
     Newspaper: kind of an antiquated method but it costs less
     Consignment shop: just a step above a pawn shop

   Is it OK to sell jewelry I learned to make from a step by step book by Linda Jones?
   I got a step by step book on how to make some really nice jewelry by Linda Jones. I was wondering if it is legal to sell these pieces I learned how to make from her book? I mean it is a step by step book...Some of my pieces are just modified from her original design from the book.
   I just want to make sure I am not breaking any copy right laws...

      Don't go to any pawn shops. I don't know of any jewlers that would buy your jewlery from you. I can't think offhand of any places that would buy it....you might be better off selling it on ebay.

      I was going to say yes, but I found this article (purportedly written by a lawyer), that says no, because it's probably too much hassle and expense for a creditor to take possession of it.

      I know Lancaster very well my parents owned land there when I was growing up so we spent many months there every year. It sure has changed in the last 40 years.

      It will all depend on what you mean by Old Jewelry.

      First you need to know its worth/Value.
      E Bay is a great source for checking on values and whats selling and what is not.

      Your local old time jewelry store can also be of great help in determining the price.
      Your local Library and/or Buying a book on jewelry that is what is close to what you have is a great resource.
      Craig's list can also be very helpful to you.

      If the jewelry can bring you good money than a trip into a couple of large towns will be worth it.
      I have some wonderful old jewelry but I waiting for the economy to pick up.

      Also, finding artists that use pieces and parts in their work is a good way to sell old jewelry

    i used to go to it all the time when i was little. at the top of the mountain, there is this ruin, or it looks like an indian ruin and it's made out of stones and there are a whole buch of people that sit outside and sell jewelry.

      advertising or selling of any kind is not allowed on yahoo answers. its in the terms of service. if you post the link, it is highly likely you will get flagged for advertising or spam, and it will get removed.

      this is mostly due to the idiot spammers who use this site for nothing BUT advertising. you may have seen them around, theres the guys in this section who post a wall of text three miles long to advertise for some fake shoe website....or there are the people who have a notlong.com site for everything...and so on and so on and so on.

      if you need to advertise, there are better places to do it. set up a facebook or myspace page about it.

      Hi, I live in Davis Park FI (part time) and you DO need a permit to sell jewelry at the annual crafts fair but you don't if it's out of your home. Since you wouldn't be selling it from home you probably do need a permit. However, despite this, I really highly doubt anyone would stop you or that the police would make you shut down shop. Even college kids sell jewelry by the benches near the harbor store in Davis Park and they don't have permits.

      It's your call, but you probably do need a permit. Hope that helps

      From that point, I would create my own contract(you can find consignment contract forms online),this is for small shops.
      Then,after that with business cards, brochures (all made at home or Vista Print) market your product and approach shops about your product. As you go, you will learn more.

      I like going to the markets... there are sure to be craft markets somewhere in your area. However, you could always try leaving some on consignment at a trendy boutique whose outfits you think your jewellery would complement. Just make sure you do it with receipts and an agreed method of payment in writing.

      Look for the right are, one where there are varied boutiques, cafes, maybe hairdressers and an area that attracts the right crowd. The best form of advertising is to actually wear your own jewellery. It's amazing how often someone will ask where you got it. best of luck.

Also, put some advertisements in the news paper and on the internet on other forums that help with that and make some business cards for it. Take pictures and show people and go to a flea market and sell some or try too. Also a good way is to start telling others.

    I am having a very tough time trying to sell some old jewelry. I have a diamond platinum engagement ring and matching band which are still very trendy and current styles.       A lot of private (not chains) jewelers don't buy from the public. There is usually a triple keystone on jewelry that the public buys. Divide what you spent on jewelry by three (sometimes even more) and that is what the jeweler spent on it. So, one would tell you your ,000 is only worth ,000. That is what it is. When we are asked to apraise, we just go by what the value acually is. What is gold that day 0 an ounce? Platinum 00 an ounce? Ask to have it weighed in penney weights and get the actual price of its REAL worth. Diamonds, what grade? What karat? Add it up and hopefully you can find a private buyer willing to pay for it. You will rarely if not ever get a buyer that will buy it the price you paid. You may want to go to a local jeweler and see if they know some private estate sellers and auctions. I suggest Houston or Dallas... you could send it there. Good luck... and never ever take it to a pawn shop... your best bet is to sell to a friend!

    I have valuable jewelry I need to sell, but not at hock shop prices (1/4 of the value). Real Simple magazine had an article a few years ago about some online consignment shops that were trustworthy, but I haven't been able to find that issue. I have heard of several people who sell their jewelry at local boutiques and small craft stores. Another option is selling on ebay. although most people try to go to places like etsy for handmade goods, you may be successful on ebay. You may also want to try starting your own private website. This can be tricky because there is not much traffic at independent sites in general; however, if your are willing to spend time and money on advertising this may be a good choice. If none of the above options suites you, you may want to consider selling at bead shows and craft fairs. the only drawback to this option is that you must be a "people person" to be successful.

    I have aload of handmade jewelry that I made and I wanted to sell it to people. I was thinking about going to beaches and going up to people there to see if they want to buy some.

    Most of my jewelry is aimed at teenagers and/or hippies. Any ideas on where these kinds of people hang out?

      church or non profit flea markets and bazaars
      large flea market on highway
      kiosk or booth in mall, at train station, in park or on boardwalk.

      you may have to pay for space at flea market, space and peddler's license for kiosk

48. QUESTION:
    if you sell handmade jewelry on ebay, do you have to collect taxes or have a license?
    I sold some handmade jewelry at boutiques and I have some left over. (about 50 pieces) I would like to sell them on ebay or make a website to sell them. It would not be set up where they could place orders and I would make to order, it would just be buying the pieces I have already made. Do I need to get a business license and/or collect taxes?

    • ANSWER:
      No, you don't need a business license to sell on eBay & I think you only collect sales tax from buyers from within your own state. You will need a Paypal account or credit card because there will be some fees to pay for the pieces that you sell. I've never used Etsy.com to sell jewelry but I've heard a lot about them & they are mainly for handmade items, so that might be another option.

49. QUESTION:
    Does anyone know where you can sell used jewelry for a decent amount of money?
    I have had the pieces appraised and know what they would sell for if new. However, I am not too sure what the depreciation is of jewelry.
