GoldFellow.com wants you to be informed. We intend to help you make an educated decision regarding the sale of your gold, silver and platinum jewelry.
Today we will give feedback to a question that we have been hearing quite a bit at GoldFellow. Is now the time to cash in my gold jewelry, or will the cash value of my unwanted gold jewelry collection rise dramatically in the near future?
Analysts make a living trying to predict what will happen next, but what many people may not realize is that unless the future holds dramatic changes, the cash value of gold jewelry will not be effected in any amazing manor.
Recently the gold price has been trading in the 5-5 per ounce range. While down from the mid-March '08 highs of 00 oz, the price remains at record levels. Many consumers are contacting us at GoldFellow to ask if they have missed the opportunity to sell their unwanted gold jewelry because the price of gold per ounce has come down a few percent. It's a good question. So, how does a per oz gold price change affect the pennyweight value of your old gold jewelry?
First, let's establish a few important facts allowing us to better understand the outcome of our analysis into the cash value of your gold jewelry.
14kt gold is the most popular gold jewelry type in the U.S.A. and therefore will be our benchmark. 25 pennyweights (dwt) of 14kt, a typical quantity we receive from individuals at GoldFellow will be the consistent quantity. Our example compares 5oz versus 5oz. So, how about we get started comparing the difference in cash value when the price of gold per ounce changes?
The general public is increasingly aware of the daily price of gold and how it fluctuates, but perhaps unaware that the gold price refers to the value of a single ounce of 99.9% pure gold. Since 14kt is only 58.3% pure, the impact of rising and falling gold prices are less severe on the cash value of 14k gold jewelry. For every oz change in the price of an ounce of gold, 14kt gold jewelry cash value changes by only oz!
Now, back to our example; the lot of 14kt gold jewelry weighing 25dwt sold to GoldFellow at 5 oz (99.9% pure gold price) would be worth 5.00 as 14kt and the same 25dwt gold jewelry based on 5 oz would bring 4.00, a difference of only .
Each person should decide for themselves whether the cash difference of is meaningful enough to warrant holding off from selling gold jewelry and hoping for a higher gold price to arise in the future.
Whether the current gold price is at 5, 0, or 00 an ounce, these are historic times for the gold market and gold prices at these levels are a new occurrence. My professional belief is there's always a greater chance of a deep drop than a steep rise. Remember the old adage; aa bird in the hand is worth two in the busha.

QUESTION:
Where should I sell my gold jewelry?
I hear that the best places to sell gold jewelry are brokerage firms or estate jewelry houses. Where should I sell my gold to get the best price? And what are any tips for negotiating the best price when I am selling? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
It all depends on what you have. If your jewelry is in nice shape and at least 14kt or 18kt gold, many estate jewelry buyers will express interest and pay a bit better. If the jewelry is damaged, or common pieces you still see in chain stores, you might as well sell it for gold weight...and in that case watch the gold markets for a nice gold spike because gold is paid on closing price.
Also, look into some private jewelry stores. Sometimes they do consignment for a percentage and you could maximize your dollar out of that.
Hope that helps...

QUESTION:
Best place to sell unwanted gold jewelry?
I need to sell a lot of unwanted scrap gold jewelry (earrings, watches and necklaces). What is the safest and highest paying gold refiner?
I'm looking to sell gold in my city if possible.-
ANSWER:
You can not sell your gold directly to a refiner unless you are a jewelry or dealer and have proper licences. I am a refiner who buys from jewelers and dealers as well as the public. I do not pay the public as much as jewelers and dealers for these two reasons.1) When buying from the public the law states that I must hold all items for 15 days before selling/melting them. In those 15 days gold, or silver has the potential to drop ALOT! Additionally, my money gets tied up for 15 days when buying from the public. When I buy gold or silver from dealers or jewelers I can melt it that same day, thus there is no risk of losing profit from gold or silver dropping since it is melted the same day it is bought.
2) Unless you have a large amount of gold or silver it isn't profitable for us to buy from you. We don't mind making .25 cents profit per gram if you have 1,000 grams of gold but it doesn't pay to make 25 cents profit per gram if you are selling 100 grams of gold. That is only profit from laying out 00. There are expenses and lots of them, most people don't realize it's a business and we need to make money too.
On the other hand there are plenty of places ripping people off. With gold at 3 per ounce you should take no less than a gram for 10k, a gram for 14k and a gram for 18k.
I buy from people all over America. I can buy it from you if you know the exact weight of your gold and silver. I can pay you via paypal even before you ship it out.
DO NOT USE CASH4GOLD.COM, GOLDKIT.COM, GOLDPAQ.COM OR ANY OF THOSE COMMERCIAL TYPE SITES!!!!!!! THEY ARE A HUGGGGE SCAM!!!!
Call me if you want to sell your items to my company. The number is 877-487-1386.

QUESTION:
what is the best to sell your gold jewelry in new york and new jersey area?
it's recession. not finding job to trying to sell my jewelry to bring food on the table.-
ANSWER:
The gold and jewelry district in New York is based on West 47 Street, between 6th and 5th Avenue. Lots of small jewelry stores. You can't walk down the street without being approached by a hawker (some may be con men), asking "Have any jewelry to sell?"Here's an article about the area. I can't say whether they provide the best prices or whether all of them are honest, but at least there are a large concentration of potential buyers there.

Better bring proof of ownership, or they might not want to deal with you, thinking that you might have stolen merchandise.

QUESTION:
If you have old gold jewelry you don't wear anymore, can you sell it to a jewelry store?
We have old gold jewelry we don't wear anymore and would like to sell it to get money for it. Can you sell jewelry, such as gold rings, to jewlery stores? If not, what are my options? Am I stuck going to a pawn shop?-
ANSWER:
If you sell you are only likely to get scrap value for the gold. If they are interesting pieces then you may be able to get a good price for them. Also if They are stone set that could create extra value.
Another option you could have is having the jewellery restyled to make something you like, here is a little more information about it, http://www.wightmangoldsmiths.co.uk/restyling.htmI hope this is useful to you

QUESTION:
How do I sell my gold jewelry?
I have 24k gold earrings. I did some research online but i'm still fuzzy. What questions should I ask? How much is the selling price of gold?-
ANSWER:
First... the "spot" price for gold you may see on the news, etc, is for gold bullion. Gold jewelry would need to be melted down and recast into bullion, so it does not have the same value as a bar or coin. That being said, you have 24k gold, which is the purest form. It is much better than 14k, which is a little over 58% pure or 10k, which is a little over 35% pure.
I would suggest making sure of the following before selling:
1) Make sure the buyer posts the prices they pay on their website.
2) Make sure they provide free TRACKABLE shipping and sufficient insurance.
3) Make sure they contact you with their offer BEFORE sending a check and make sure if you aren't happy they will return it promptly, with trackable shipping and sufficient insurance.
4) Make sure they are Better Business Bureau Accredited and do not have any complaints filed against them.
I researched companies thoroughly and found that Cash4Gold, mentioned by another reader does not meet ANY of these requirements. Many buyers meet some, but not all. The ONLY buyer I found that meets ALL of the above requirements is the SIlver and Gold Exchange at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com
Weigh your earrings and then look at their live price chart and you'll see what they are paying for them. If you do not have access to a scale and are thinking of selling, they will rent you one free of charge.

QUESTION:
Where can I go to sell my gold jewelry and watches?
I don't want to go to unreputable companies or pawn shops-
ANSWER:
You will get more money if you can find a jeweler in your area that sells estate jewelry on consignment. However, if you need to sell your jewelry immediately I would also recommend jewelers who deal with estate jewelry as well. You would get less by outright selling your jewelry, but the offset is that you would get paid more quickly. Be sure to shop around as you may find some jewelers willing/able to pay more for your pieces. If you have appraisals for the jewelry, be sure to bring those as well, as jewelry with an established appraisal usually will bring more money.Whatever you do, DO NOT use those companies on TV that have you send them your jewelry and send you a check in return. You will actually get a whole lot less from them than you would a pawn shop!

QUESTION:
Want to sell gold for cash - Is it the good way to sell gold for cash?
I have of gold jewellery with me that is of no use for me. Should I sell my gold jewellery for Cash?-
ANSWER:
before selling points to think and decide are:
1)what is the use of money recovered from selling jewellery? personal need or investment in gold bonds?
2)are you competent to sell jewellery in jewellery form ? or you have to sell it for the gold within it, after heavy discounts for obtaining pure gold.
in india most jewellery is made of 22carat gold out of 24carat pure gold.in india on selling we procure pure gold about 80% of jewellery weight.suppose jewellery weight is 100gm.then we will get the amount equivalent to 80gm of pure gold.
in case of 18carat jewellery you would recover about 65% .

QUESTION:
Is it safe to approach gold buyers to sell my gold jewelry?-
ANSWER:
Most gold buyers buy based on weight. The price of gold fluctuates, and many more people are buying now than in recent times. Because gold is on the rise, I would suggest that you take your jewelry to a reputable jeweler for sale.It is possible that some of your jewelry would be worth more because of gems, etc, and some worth less because it is plated, etc.
You can visit three different jewelers and get their bids on the items. Then you will have a pretty good idea of their value.

QUESTION:
Should I sell my gold jewelry and scrap gold now? I have over 11 oz of 14k.?
At over 0 for gold this morning, I have read predictions that the more we go into a recession, the higher the price of precious metals. Now I'm wondering, should I sell the small amount that I have or hold on? These are pieces I can let go of with no attachment but I'm wondering if it would be more prudent to hold on...any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!-
ANSWER:
That 0 per ounce is troy ounces which is 31 grams not 28 grams, that is the way precious metal is wieghed so you probably have closer to 10 oztYour gold is 14 k, spot price is for 24 k so you are talking a price of 5/ozt not 0
The places which buy your scrap gold only give a percentage of the spot price because they in turn, sell it to recyclers who don't give them the spot price since they have refining costs and also need to turn a profit so you are only going to get at best, about a third to half of what your gold is worth.
If you want to sell, your best bet would be to sell the items as scrap gold on a site like ebay. There are many bidders who buy scrap gold. Personally, I cannot bear the thought of sellng my gold, I am a gold prospector for the hobby, not the money.

I live in the Bay Area and would like to find out where I can take my gold to sell without the middle man.Any suggestions???
-
ANSWER:
There are at least three options that are available to sell your gold jewelry.1. At a pawn shop - Yuck!
2. At a jewelry store - Better
3. Online to a Cash for Gold BuyerI have researched and found more than 200+ online gold buyers and there are three top, honest companies that I send all of my family and friends to. The top three on GoldVox.com have at least an "A" rating with the BBB. That means they resolve every customers concern, and have had minimal to zero complaints.
Check out http://www.goldvox.com and read some of the customer reviews and BBB ratings for several companies. They all buy gold through the mail and the top buyers pay very close to market price. It sounds unsafe to even consider mailing your gold but a lot of people have had great success with the programs.
Good luck and I hope you find a good deal! Gold is paying great these days!

QUESTION:
Selling jewelry, selling gold, selling gems..?
What steps do I need to take to sell this jewelry? Some is very old, even antique -- some would only be grandparents or great grandparents (1800s-1900s)
Mainly gold chains, but a few key pieces of costume jewelry with heavy amounts of gold and gems inserted. (Not sure how much they weigh, im guestimating them all)
Other than weighing the gold myself, how would I go about actually getting the value of these pieces I want to sell? I would take to a jewelry shop that buys -- but I do not want to get ripped off. Nothing is appraised. And some of the older pieces do not have visible karat labels on them that I can see.
Completely clueless about the gems.. how do I find out the actual quality and value of my diamonds and other gems...
-
ANSWER:
I am a refiner and diamond buyer in Florida, and will give you the information you need to sell your items without getting ripped off.Gold (Based on todays price of 3/oz)- 10k- gram, 14k- gram, 18k- gram.
Silver- 925/Sterling- a ounce.
This is the absolute least you should get per gram. A lot of place buy it according to pennyweight (DWT) to convert grams to pennyweight just multiply the gram price by 1.55.
I pay around 6% more than the numbers I listed above, if you want to sell them to me give me a call at 877-487-1386. If you know the weight I can pay you via paypal even before you ship out your items.
The diamonds are nearly imposible to know because so many factors go into the selling price. I personally WOULD NOT sell any diamonds, gems etc. right now because of the economy. Diamond prices are down 60% from 6 months ago. Now is the time to sell any gold or silver but not diamonds, gems, or costume jewelry.
Hope this helped.

QUESTION:
Where do I sell my gold jewelry for the best price?-
ANSWER:
If you have a jewelry market in your area you should obtain several quotes. Refiners generally pay a little more than jewlers or pawn shops but have higher minimum purchases. Look up gold refiners on your computer.Do not have high expectations. Ask for price or cost per gram. Remember that jewelry may only be 50% gold (12kt) or 75% gold (18 kt). Some of your costs for the gold reflect engineering and design costs. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Selling Gold Jewelry?
Hello, my mom is looking to sell some 14 KT gold jewelry for money. A few bullion gold buyers wouldn't buy from individuals but the website USGOLDBUYERS.COM would. Is this website legitimate? Does anyone have any better gold buying websites (that will accept 14 KT jewelry)? What about verification and insurance, I work at a lab so was able to get the exact weight (to the 10th of a millgram) with an analytical balance. How does one know that they will get the same weight agree to the purity (14 Kt)? Once you send it in is there proof of submission and do you have the option to turn down their offer and get your jewelry back?-
ANSWER:
Well. spot gold price is 5.70 / troy ounce. Divide by 31.1 grams / troy ounce, then multiply by 14/24, because of the 14K. So the gold in your jewelry is worth .30 / gram. Probably a bullion buyer will not offer you more than the spot value, and may offer you substantially less. You can check spot prices anytime, they change often:

Gold per gram = .24 karat = 100% gold.
14 karat = 58% gold.
18 karat = 75% gold.Example: You bring in a 14karat gold necklace that weighs 11 grams. How much is it "worth" and how much should you get?
Worth: 11 grams x gram x 58% = 7
Get: 7 x 70% = 1

QUESTION:
Is it better to sell scrap gold to a jewelry store?
I have a large amount of gold that I got after my Granmother died and would like to cash some in. Is it better to go to a jewelry store or one of those online gold places? Thanks-
ANSWER:
If it's scrap gold, personally I think it's better to go directly to a refiner (aka, online gold buying places) You want to make sure you pick one that is an actual refiner though, because there are many imitators. If you sell to a jewelry store or pawn shop, you gold will likely end up at a refiner anyway, so cut out the middle man. I want to sell some gold jewelry, but how much do I ask?
it's 14k gold and i have about 6 necklace and 5 bracelets.... I want to go to a pawn shop... or any where i can get rid of them quick! My check was way too small this pay period! Is 14k really even worth anything...? how much? where can I go to sell it? any help will be great! thanks evrybdy-
ANSWER:
You probably should take it to a jeweler. A pawn shop would offer an extremely small percentage of what it is worth. A reputable jeweler, I believe, would be more likely to give you a decent offer.
