Jewelries are considered as a high priced possession. People are very mesmerized with jewelries that they decide to invest on them. Some adores them too much that they hoard each and every pieces. Others make it to heirloom piece. A valuable piece of jewelry is a status symbol to the exclusive community as well as to commoner. As much as one wishes to keep these precious items, there are situations where the owner is left no choice but to sell them.
Among the numerous reasons to sell jewelries, include cracked jewelries, need for money, dislike the item, use the money to buy another jewelry piece. The list can go on and on. But whatever reason there is of selling ones jewelry, it is vital to be knowledgeable about where to sell them. Of course, one should ensure that it is a reputable company that would examine your possession to its real price. Be wise, there are so many deceptive companies that will do everything just to get their hands on your precious jewelries. So, be very careful and take your time to know where to sell and where not to sell your jewelries.. Here is a list of top places to sell as well as to avoid.
1. Independent Jewelry Store. Nearest jewelry store is one option to peddle your piece. One can negotiate face to face and can appraise the value of their jewelries at a good price.
2. Jewelry-for-cash company. These gold party companies will come to your house and host a party for you, where you can sell your item with interested buyers. The gold party companies have little overhead. It stands to reason that you may get a better offer from a gold party company that only has to deliver a scale, a lupe and a special light around in a car.
3. Pawn shops. This is the number one place for people who are in a hurry to get rid of their jewelries. Follow a line of investigation and make sure they are legitimate. Still they are basically there to make loans based on holding ones property as guarantee. If the grace period given is over, they will own your goods.
4. Direct Deal. If one has large amount of gold jewelry or has more than 1,000 grams of it, better go to direct gold buyer and talk your price face to face.
5. Gold buyer online. Thanks to the progression of technology, a new face of trade was launched. You can simply go online and sell your precious possession right at home. With just a click from your computer, your gold can be converted to cash. However, it is vital to find respectable online companies. Do not be trapped to fraud businesses that are on the web. Things to note when selling your jewelry online are the following: Ensure that it has good customer service, declare their prices clearly and is equivalent to market value, has good return policy if ever one is not buying or one is not satiated of the appraised price, has good shipping process, and the company should pay in time. Look for the review of previous customers. There should be more positive reviews from satisfied customers.
Avoid advertising jewelries to inconsistent online jewelry shops. No mails - this is how you can tell between fraudulent and legitimate buyers. There are many reliable places that pay a good appraisal of one's jewelries worth. One does not have to take the nonessential risks of losing the piece though mail or sending it to fraud people.
Also, do not be ensnared to television companies that claims to buy broken and old jewelries for a good price. These companies pay less than the traditional companies most of the time.

QUESTION:
Best place to sell old jewelry?
I have a lot of gold and gemstone jewelry that I no longer wear. Mostly from ex-boyfriends. Where is the best place to sell to get the most $$? Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Actually, with so much competition between wholesalers and retailers on Ebay, it is not the best venue if you are looking for the most $$$ from what you have. My suggestion, contact some private jewelry stores in your area ( not the chains like Zales or Sterling ), ask about consignment. Most stores that work in consignment usually take 25%-30%. This way, you can set your price of what you want to get out of it. Suggestion though, research your items first and see what the average price of what you have is.

QUESTION:
What is the best way to sell your old jewelry?
I inherited some jewelry that has no sentimental value and would like to sell it. Any suggestions?-
ANSWER:
Be smart....take the jewelry to a jewelry shop and ask someone who has the knowledge in it to tell you what you have....and how much money is involved......Don't take it to a pawn shop...or gold exchange...they will weigh each item and tell you the price of the Yellow gold or White gold price is...but not the stones.....you will be giving it to them.........sorry but true
Take a minute to clean the pieces you have.......a soft tooth brush and warm water with a dab of toot paste on it and brush each piece clean top......bottom......sides.....and look at what you really have........If you have sons or daughters....maybe you would like them to have something........Give friends a chance to see if they want to buy some of it.....or family~
List it on ebay...let someone list it for you
put add in news paper
List what you have here ......if you know what you have....add pics and let those on yahoo answers look at it.....You might get people here interested

QUESTION:
Is there a way to sell my old diamond jewelry for cash?
I live near philadelphia so anywhere around there. I have heard of pawn shops but I have never tried to do anything like this before. Even if I wanted to sell my jewelry over the internet, I would have no idea any information buyers might ask including the weight and carot.-
ANSWER:
Some jewellery shops will buy second hand jewellery - either to melt down/reuse if they also design, or to resell if the jewellery is in good condition.Your best bet is to go around and ask in different places as their offers will widely greatly. If they are thinking about buying then they will usually offer you a lot less than its cost value. It is defiantly worth looking around. (More expensive areas will often pay more money for good jewellery because they can sell it on for more).
Even if you do not get any good offers they might be able to give you any idea of the carat, etc.
I'm afraid my knowledge of pawn shops is non-existant however!

QUESTION:
where should i go to sell my old jewelry?
I have some silver and gold i want to sell . Where should i go so that i get a really good amount . Please don't say cash4gold because i don't trust them.-
ANSWER:
I suggest you go to the local Coin and Precious Metal shop. Almost every town has one. At least you will know what they will pay before you give them the jewelry. If you are not happy with their offer, you still have possession and can walk out. When a consumer purchases precious metals and jewelry, they pay retail, When a dealer purchases precious metals and jewelry, they pay whole sale so plan on being offered considerably less than you think it is worth.
Everyone is complaining about cash4gold and the other mail purchase outfits. They pay pennies on the dollar if they pay at all. If you ask for your jewelry back they say it was lost in the mail.
The truth is that as soon as they get your jewelry, they pop the stones out and melt it down. It is gone within 24 hrs. By the time you find out you are being cheated, the jewelry has been destroyed.

QUESTION:
If you have old gold jewelry you don't wear anymore, can you sell it to a jewelry store?
We have old gold jewelry we don't wear anymore and would like to sell it to get money for it. Can you sell jewelry, such as gold rings, to jewlery stores? If not, what are my options? Am I stuck going to a pawn shop?-
ANSWER:
If you sell you are only likely to get scrap value for the gold. If they are interesting pieces then you may be able to get a good price for them. Also if They are stone set that could create extra value.
Another option you could have is having the jewellery restyled to make something you like, here is a little more information about it, http://www.wightmangoldsmiths.co.uk/restyling.htmI hope this is useful to you

QUESTION:
Does anyone know the best way to sell your old jewelry and get the most for it?
I've got and old engagement ring/ wedding band set that I want to sell. It was my mothers before she and my father got divorced and she gave it to me to sell to get more money for the engagement ring I'm going to buy my girlfriend. I'm worried about getting what its actually worth and not getting hosed.Do jewelry stores at the mall purchase old jewelry?
-
ANSWER:
There is a huge mark up on jewelry. So, the best thing to do is search similar rings on Ebay. See what they are selling for.
Be realistic at what you can get for it before setting your price.I would sell it on Ebay because you have that many more people looking at it then if you sell it locally or want a jeweller to buy it (which they will give you nothing for it~ Same with a pawn shop).
If it's worth it, you can always get the ring appraised before you try to sell it, so that you know how big the stones are, quality, etc... and what they think it's worth.

If you're selling off stuff you don't wear anymore, your best bet is to use an refiner that will take your gold. QUESTION:
What did you do with all the things your ex-boyfriends gave you? Do you think it's wrong to sell old jewelry?
I was just wondering what you all did with it. I'm thinking of selling this white gold and diamond necklace on ebay that one of my ex-bfs gave me. Does that mean I have a cold heart?-
ANSWER:
That does not mane you have a cold heart at all. You don't want the necklace anymore and there is nothing wrong with it. He gave it to yours so it is yours to do with whatever you please. It would be a different story if he is your boyfriend now but he's an ex. You probably don't want to continue wearing it and have to think of your ex each time that you do. Don't feel bad about whatever you choose to do. getting rid of it does not mean you have a cold heart at all.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know where to sell used jewelry for a good price?
I am having a very tough time trying to sell some old jewelry. I have a diamond platinum engagement ring and matching band which are still very trendy and current styles. I have at least 00.00 in jewelry and I was told they are worth nothing but 0 total at a "reputable" jewelry store in my area. Ebay doesn't look too promising either, I check that daily. I am just wondering if anyone knows of a good place I might look into for this. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
A lot of private (not chains) jewelers don't buy from the public. There is usually a triple keystone on jewelry that the public buys. Divide what you spent on jewelry by three (sometimes even more) and that is what the jeweler spent on it. So, one would tell you your ,000 is only worth ,000. That is what it is. When we are asked to apraise, we just go by what the value acually is. What is gold that day 0 an ounce? Platinum 00 an ounce? Ask to have it weighed in penney weights and get the actual price of its REAL worth. Diamonds, what grade? What karat? Add it up and hopefully you can find a private buyer willing to pay for it. You will rarely if not ever get a buyer that will buy it the price you paid. You may want to go to a local jeweler and see if they know some private estate sellers and auctions. I suggest Houston or Dallas... you could send it there. Good luck... and never ever take it to a pawn shop... your best bet is to sell to a friend!

QUESTION:
If you sell old gold jewelry what do they do with the stones? Do they pay you only for the gold?
I live in the United States-
ANSWER:
When you sell gold jewelry you are paid by the weight of the gold at the going market rate for gold. For the most part, you will be paid very little or nothing for the stones, unless it is a diamond that is at least a .25 carat or above of good quality and then you will probably be offered 1/4 of what you paid for the diamond retail.

QUESTION:
who would I contact to sell old jewelry from the 40's 50's 60's ?-
ANSWER:
Go to a reputable jewelry store and ask them. Check the American Gem Society's website for locations near you. You'll want to talk with an appraiser and find the value of the pieces before you sell them... that way you'll know you're giving a quality piece and getting a justified price.

QUESTION:
Where can I sell old jewelry without getting ripped off?? Northern Virginia, D.C. area?
Gold, diamonds - rings, bracelets, earrings etc.-
ANSWER:
It depends on whether you are selling them for their metal or as jewelry. If these are good pieces and can be resold as heirloom jewelry, I have had good treatment at the Tiny Jewel Box and at Pampillona, both in DCTiny Jewel Box
www.tinyjewelbox.com
(202) 393-2747Pampillonia Jewelers
www.pampillonia.com
(202) 628-6305Of course, whenever you sell to a dealer, you are going to get only the wholesale price. They want plenty of room to mark it up to retail. If you want the best price possible, you will have to sell pieces directly to individuals, so you can get the retail value. If you have a lot to sell, it can make sense to get a table at an antique show. One of the biggest is in January of each year.
http://dc.about.com/od/specialevents/a/WashAntiqu.htm
If you have just a few pieces, consider selling them through a consignment shop. That is not as fast or automatic as taking them to Tiny Jewel Box, but you will get more money, although not as much as direct selling.
Good luck, and I hope this information is helpful.

QUESTION:
Is "Cash4Gold" a good place to sell your old jewelry?-
ANSWER:
Any business that outright lies in their commercials, I would not trust !
Example, one female states in the commercial " I sent in my old wedding rings from a previous marriage, and got my money the very next day".
Just where in this country can anyone send any mail and get the reply the very next day ?
Next thing to consider, is, how do they figure a fair amount for your gold, and how can you be sure they are in fact truthful about the weight and quality they are paying you for?
And how can you reclaim your jewelry if not satisfied?
Never deal such transactions over or through the mail.
But of course, these are my personal opinions, and since it's your jewelry, it's also your choice, so good luck and beware.

QUESTION:
Would you sell your old gold jewelry....?
There's a legit jewelry store in the NICE side of town that is buying gold jewelry. When I called today she encouraged me to come in. I have lots of old rings, bracelets, and necklaces that I don't wear and don't want to wear anymore. The only problem is that some of them have stones in them. I asked about that and she said they weren't buying gems right now. So I asked if they would take them back and give them to me.... she hesitated and said they COULD take them out, but there might be a charge for it depending on the degree of difficulty on getting the stone out. Well, in other words, they just keep the stones for free and then probably turn around and use them? Is this standard practice?Would you sell your old jewelry?
-
ANSWER:
Weird. There are tons of jewelers who buy gold here. In fact I recently had a gold buying party. And my husband sold his class ring. He had a ruby in it and we asked if they could take it out and they said yes and did not charge me for it. I made 0+ dollars from selling all my gold at that party and I made another 0+ from the 10% I got off the other gold that was sold at my party. I highly suggest it if you don't use it anymore.

QUESTION:
How should I sell some old jewelry?
I have a couple of rings that are from a engagement that went south a few years back. One of the ring's stone is pretty much trashed, but the setting is okay, and 14k gold, no scratches on it. Other is the engagement ring, 14k white gold, no-scratches, custom designed, with a asscher cut diamond.I'm trying to get as much as possible from the rings. Is it wiser to pull the stones, and scrap the gold for value, or is it wiser to attempt to leave them and sell them as complete? I've read that 24k gold is selling for around 00/ounce. I was offered about a 1000 for it all. I have about 5500 in both from new.
What advice can you give me? Is it worth scrapping the gold and selling stones individually or will I get more as a whole?
-
ANSWER:
Hi, your best bet for getting the most money for these rings would be to remove the stones and sell them to a refinery. I work for a precious metals refinery called Metallix Direct Gold and we would be happy to give you a quote on your rings. Our website has a calculator which will give you an estimate on how much your rings are worth with daily updated gold prices according to the London Fix. If you are interested in selling to us you can send in your rings, we will give you a price, and you can reject the price if you are not satisfied. We will then send your rings back to you as soon as possible. Our company eliminates the middleman so your gold goes directly to the refinery. If you have an extra minute you could download our free white paper on The 7 Steps To Getting The Most Money For Your Silver. I will put both of the links below for you.
