I just had a conversation this afternoon with someone who imported a car from the US because it was cheaper to buy it there and have it shipped to Italy. His additional costs were the shipping, paying import duty on the car here in Italy, and replacing the GPS system since US GPSs don't work here. With a new car, the extra costs were offset by the difference between the purchase price for the car in the two countries. You won't be in the same condition since you're talking about a used car that sounds like it might be on it's last legs. The import duty that any purchaser would have to pay may be more than the actual worth of the car.

Even with the transportation cost included, it's still cheaper to have China do the manufacturing than do it locally.

    This car has been really good. It only has 96,600 miles on it. Everything is still original.       If you're for real, then find your local scrap metal dealer, or recycling depot. You can take as little as you like, but a load of 250Kgs is usually considered a basic minimum.

      If it's good stuff, it could fetch £20 to £30 for that.

      Yes, you would have to give your details, eg name and address, and if you take it in a vehicle, they will also record your vehicle details - they must do so by law.

    Is there any benefit for casting ingots to sell to scrap yards?
    If I cast my own aluminum ingots (4-5 lbs) from soda cans, will recycling/scrapping centers still accept it? If so, will they offer more money for being in a more raw form? Would I be able to cast copper and bronze ingots as well as other metals?

      If the aluminum is still in 'can' form, the yard can tell what it is and pay you the full value. If you melt it down, they have no easy way to tell what it is for sure, and you may only get paid 'pot metal' rates (1/10 or less of aluminum rates). I think re-melting it will end up costing you, both in energy and in reimbursement - don't do it.
