Selling 14kt gold jewelry is easy to do. Once you acquaint yourself with basic information on the gold industry, you will find that selling 14kt gold jewelry is not very hard at all.
Selling 14kt Gold Jewelry
When you are selling 14kt gold jewelry, you will need to know the current market rate for gold. This price fluctuates on a daily basis and can be viewed on various websites. By knowing the latest rate, you will be able to better estimate what you will get for your gold items.
Gold items can come in the form of necklaces, rings, earrings, coins, bracelets, brooches and more. Once you have gathered all of your unused and unwanted gold, you will want to locate the karat stamp on each piece. Items that have a 24 karat insignia will bring in the most money because they are pure gold. Other common forms are 10k, 14k, and 18k.
Best Gold Buyers
To locate a gold buyer, you can use a major search engine, online yellow pages, review sites, blogs and forums. All of these websites contain pertinent information on locating a reputable gold buyer that is willing to purchase your gold items. You will find customer experiences, recommendations, feedback and ratings.
Although there are different kinds of buyers, you will want to select an online gold buyer. They can offer you a high quote for your gold and a quick turnaround time. They will also provide you with a free mailer to send in your jewelry so that you can get your cash fast.
Physical stores such as a pawn shop or jewelry store only provide you with low quotes and take too much time out of your day. Having to visit them also consumes your expensive gas.
Lots of people are taking advantage of being able to sell their gold for top dollar. Selling 14kt gold jewelry allows you to join the millions that are making money.

QUESTION:
what is the best to sell your gold jewelry in new york and new jersey area?
it's recession. not finding job to trying to sell my jewelry to bring food on the table.-
ANSWER:
The gold and jewelry district in New York is based on West 47 Street, between 6th and 5th Avenue. Lots of small jewelry stores. You can't walk down the street without being approached by a hawker (some may be con men), asking "Have any jewelry to sell?"Here's an article about the area. I can't say whether they provide the best prices or whether all of them are honest, but at least there are a large concentration of potential buyers there.

Better bring proof of ownership, or they might not want to deal with you, thinking that you might have stolen merchandise.

QUESTION:
Where is the best place to sell your gold jewelry? Or to sell gold?-
ANSWER:
I don’t know what cash4gold will pay. I do know from my past experience, that I sent them a scrap jewelry ring and they paid me .26. I rejected the offer and they returned my ring promptly. I then found another company, http://www.captaincashforgold.com/ that paid me 3 for the same ring!! and they enclosed a track able Fedex pack along with 0 insurance as opposed to some crappy envelope from cash4gold that you cant even track. I really got burned a couple of times using a couple of different cash for gold companies but with http://www.captaincashforgold.com/ I feel I finally found one that I could really trust with my valuables.

QUESTION:
Is it better to pawn your gold jewelry or sell it to a cash for gold place?
I need some extra cash and wanted to get rid of some gold jewelry I never wear. I don't know which would be more profitable... Pawn Shop or Cash for Gold store.-
ANSWER:
Neither, Consumer Reports has some good advice on selling gold:"The Consumer Reports Money Adviser compared what one of the television companies offered for a gold band a couple of years ago with what a local jeweler and an on-line gold buyer would pay, the TV company paid a much lower price. Instead, take your gold to a reputable jeweler in your area for an appraisal. Note the carat of the metal, and ask the jeweler to tell you the weight in pennyweights or troy ounces. Use this online calculator to figure out the value based on the price of gold that day. Then quickly (because prices fluctuate) call several jewelry or coin stores and ask how much they pay for gold. Aim to get about 85 percent of what you calculated it’s worth. "

QUESTION:
Would you sell your old gold jewelry....?
There's a legit jewelry store in the NICE side of town that is buying gold jewelry. When I called today she encouraged me to come in. I have lots of old rings, bracelets, and necklaces that I don't wear and don't want to wear anymore. The only problem is that some of them have stones in them. I asked about that and she said they weren't buying gems right now. So I asked if they would take them back and give them to me.... she hesitated and said they COULD take them out, but there might be a charge for it depending on the degree of difficulty on getting the stone out. Well, in other words, they just keep the stones for free and then probably turn around and use them? Is this standard practice?Would you sell your old jewelry?
-
ANSWER:
Weird. There are tons of jewelers who buy gold here. In fact I recently had a gold buying party. And my husband sold his class ring. He had a ruby in it and we asked if they could take it out and they said yes and did not charge me for it. I made 0+ dollars from selling all my gold at that party and I made another 0+ from the 10% I got off the other gold that was sold at my party. I highly suggest it if you don't use it anymore.

Not to the pawn shop, they offer slightly lower price, whereby they will sell the items as second hand goods to make profit in the case of no redemption.

QUESTION:
We see lots of places willing to buy our gold jewelry for lots of cash. Who is buying the gold from them?
If you sell your gold jewelry at one of those places that buys your gold, who buys the gold from them? It looks like there is a demand for the gold and we just don't know about it and seem to be selling our gold jewelry at these places. The value of the dollar is declining and it's no longer backed by gold. What happens if the dollar collapses?-
ANSWER:
They are hoarding it. They will not pay you a fair price either. You are better off selling at a garage sale, online, or to a person. The ones that are buying it up now are speculating that the price will go sky high and it will. Keep it if you don't really need to sell it.

QUESTION:
Best way to sell gold jewelry?
I have a lot of gold jewelry, some of which is damaged but suspect that it is worth more melted down than in its current form. Where does one go to sell gold like this without being ripped off? If your advice is to use Cash4Gold, then please don't bother responding.-
ANSWER:
You are never going to get market value for your gold. A lot of people forget that it is a business and there are expenses. About 2% of the gold immediately evaporates upon melting, market price may drop, rent, assay fees, permits, labor, taxes, etc etc. Also market prices are based on 1,000 ounces of bullion (bars, coins etc) on a trading level. If you have one ounce of jewelry, and gold is ,000 a ounce you don't get ,000 for that jewelry. Most jewelry is 14k gold and that is only 58.5% pure gold.
10k- 41.7% Gold
14k- 58.5% Gold
18k- 75% Gold
22k- 91.7% GoldI am a refiner and diamond buyer in Florida, and will give you the information you need to sell your items without getting ripped off.
Gold (Based on todays price of 3/oz)- 10k- gram, 14k- gram, 18k- gram.
Silver- 925/Sterling- a ounce.
This is the absolute least you should get per gram. A lot of place buy it according to pennyweight (DWT) to convert grams to pennyweight just multiply the gram price by 1.55.
I pay around 6% more than the numbers I listed above for 100 grams of gold OR LESS, if you 100-200 grams I pay 10% more than the prices above, 200 grams or more 12% more than the prices above.
I buy from jewelers, dealers, pawn shops, and the public all over the country. If you know the approx weight and karat of the gold I will pay you PRIOR to you shipping your items using paypal. If you dont have a scale I send them to customers FREE OF CHARGE! If that sounds like something you would be interested in doing call me anytime. My number is tollfree. (877) 487-1386. Either way I hope you get a fair price no matter who you sell it too. Just Do YOUR RESEARCH!!!
A few last things. If you have any gold or silver coins or bars (bullion) you should get about 1%-2% below market value if they are pure gold (most are) since they do not need to be melted.
Also now is NOT the time to sell anything but gold, silver or platinum. If you have diamonds (larger than a 1/2ct), or a high end watch, KEEP THEM IT!! Wait until the economy rebounds a little. You would get half of what you would of got 6 months ago for them!!
Hope this helped.

why are there so many places out there buying all your gold/silver jewelry all of a sudden?
i noticed lately that so many places are looking to buy your old gold/silver jewelry at decent prices. i also see a lot ads in the papers/periodicals that are looking for the same thing. whats the deal? if i wanted to sell back some of mine, what should i look out for? how do i know i am getting what i should and not ripped off?-
ANSWER:
Look out for companies that ask you to mail your gold in.
Clark Howard from CNN.com has a scam artilcle on this.
You mail in your gold and you get about 1/3 to 1/4th of the value you would get at any pawn shop or local jewelry buyer.
If you want to sell, stay away from anything online.
Leave it for the dummies to mail in their gold and accept whatever offer they get - they will never know if they got a good price or not.
Get three estimates from local stores and sell to the highest bidder.

QUESTION:
Is there a way to tell if your jewelry is real gold or costume jewelry? Some kind of test to do at home?
I have lots of old jewelry and do not know
if it is 'real' gold or not.
I would like to sell the real gold for 0. an ounce
if that is what it is still going for!
But I don't know how to tell which is which.-

I heard that if you put gold in water overnight that if it is fake it will change color. If you have a respectable jeweler you know in the area they will be able to tell you. They will also do appraisals for free for you so they will be able to tell you exactly how much something is worth.

QUESTION:
Selling Gold Jewelry?
Hello, my mom is looking to sell some 14 KT gold jewelry for money. A few bullion gold buyers wouldn't buy from individuals but the website USGOLDBUYERS.COM would. Is this website legitimate? Does anyone have any better gold buying websites (that will accept 14 KT jewelry)? What about verification and insurance, I work at a lab so was able to get the exact weight (to the 10th of a millgram) with an analytical balance. How does one know that they will get the same weight agree to the purity (14 Kt)? Once you send it in is there proof of submission and do you have the option to turn down their offer and get your jewelry back?-
ANSWER:
Well. spot gold price is 5.70 / troy ounce. Divide by 31.1 grams / troy ounce, then multiply by 14/24, because of the 14K. So the gold in your jewelry is worth .30 / gram. Probably a bullion buyer will not offer you more than the spot value, and may offer you substantially less. You can check spot prices anytime, they change often:

What did you do with all the things your ex-boyfriends gave you? Do you think it's wrong to sell old jewelry?
I was just wondering what you all did with it. I'm thinking of selling this white gold and diamond necklace on ebay that one of my ex-bfs gave me. Does that mean I have a cold heart?-
ANSWER:
That does not mane you have a cold heart at all. You don't want the necklace anymore and there is nothing wrong with it. He gave it to yours so it is yours to do with whatever you please. It would be a different story if he is your boyfriend now but he's an ex. You probably don't want to continue wearing it and have to think of your ex each time that you do. Don't feel bad about whatever you choose to do. getting rid of it does not mean you have a cold heart at all.

QUESTION:
Gold Processing and Selling?
Question 1:Please could someone give me a "comprehensive but simple to understand" way of processing gold dust into bars(at home or at a goldsmith). I heard to sell the gold, it must be certified... is this true and who certifies it?
Question 2:
I need information on how to sell the gold bar after I have done everything right from the first question at close to MARKET PRICE as possible. For example: Do I sell the bar to jewelry stores or are there gold dealers that buy the gold close to MARKET PRICE? Also where is the best country to easily sell your gold. I heard Dubai, how true is that...Please need clear, easy to understand answers. Thanks a million everyone.
-
ANSWER:
Put the gold dust into a metal pot and heat (according to melting point of gold which you can find on internet). Make a mold in the shape of a rough bar (doesn't really matter). You should be able to get some release medium to line the mold. You need to take the bar/s to an assayer to be assayed as to it's purity.
I think they are some jewellers who are authorised to do this. (Hatton Garden in UK) or someone like Johnson Matthey.
It might be best to identify your buyers first so they can tell you in what weight or form they would prefer to buy.

QUESTION:
Selling gold/silver jewelry OR coins - mailers, coin store, or goldsmith/jeweler?
With all the hype about selling gold via the mailers you hear about online, TV ads, etc. is it really a good deal. Wouldn't it be better to go to a local coin store or a goldsmith/jeweler? If you take your coins to the goldsmith, then you are getting only the value of the metal, not the overall characteristics of the coin. Yet, if you go the coin store, you may not get what it's worth...any advice would be nice.-
ANSWER:
Regardless of the way you decide to go, if you go uneducated about what you have, you're going to come out the loser. The mailer business is for those who know nothing and don't care, just want the money in their hot little hands as soon as possible. They deserve to get taken, and they will. You're right about a goldsmith, because they want the gold or silver to make into jewelry, and because they can't use it for jewelry in coin form, or from old jewelry, they have to have it refined into a form they can use. Any offer they make to the seller will include a deduction to cover this cost.
If you go to a coin dealer, you WILL get what the coins are worth...to the dealer. Dealers are in business to make money, not buy coins from you and turn around and sell them to a collector for what they paid you. Dealers will try to buy as cheaply as possible. Wouldn't you? Therefore, it's up to you to know exactly what you have. Most silver coins and many gold coins have no numismatic (collector) value above the value of the precious metal. The ones that do are evaluated by grade, so you need to know something about that, too. You need to research what you have by looking at eBay sales, reading coin magazines and looking at the ads with 'buy' and 'sell' prices. If you can find it, get hold of a current 'graysheet' - that's the wholesale prices that dealers are willing to pay to other dealers. Any offers you get are going to be below wholesale.
If you want closer to retail, the best bet is to learn what you have and what the wholesale and retail values are, and then sell individual better pieces on eBay. If you have a lot of 'common' silver coins, eBay may get you a little more than the 10 to 11 times face value that coin dealers are paying.

QUESTION:
Where can I sell my gold?
Has anyone here ever mailed their jewelry away for cash? Where did you send it? Did you feel you got a good amount of cash back for your gold or silver? I have read so many negative forums that discuss scams like Cash4Gold and other places. I have sold a bunch of broken gold and silver for cash to a great place MyGoldDepot.com and wanted to know if anyone had any other experiences that were positive.
Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I am not sure how you can claim you had a good experience with MyGoldDepot (unless you are an employee and this is a fake question).
They have a "What We Pay" page on their website, but on it they do not show what they pay like reputable sites do.
They have a FAKE Better Business Bureau Seal on their website and are not accredited or even listed with the BBB like reputable buyers do.
Their Terms and Conditions are downright scary and show that basically you are screwed if anything goes wrong with your transaction.

QUESTION:
How do I determine at what weight my gold jewelry would be paid at?
I know the weight. I have a very heavy gold chain and bracelet- together they weigh 2.5 oz, or 72 grams.
I know that currently gold is at about 1K per ounce, but obviously, I am not getting ,500?
They are estate pieces that would currently sell for much more than that in a jewelry store, if you could even find anything that heavy. After some research on-line I see that unbroken or nice items like mine are often purchased by places like estate.com BUT..
What I want to know is how they determine the actual weight at which they pay since it is 14K gold not pure 24 KT gold. ehow.com has an article that just says to weigh it yourself, which I did as I have a digital scale, but they don't explain how to know you aren't getting ripped off or how they buyer determines how much gold is in your 2.5 ounces of 14KT gold. They say 14KT gold is something like 58% pure gold and the rest some sort of alloy for strength. So, do they take 42% off the weight to determine ounces they will pay at, or the actual weight of the gold item/ chains.
What would my 2.5 ounces of gold be worth if sold and best way to sell?

ANSWER:
You know, that price in the newspaper is for gold futures.
That's the price one pays for taking delivery on a quantity like maybe 100 ounces (I'm sure some futures trader could give you exact figures) but anyway, nobody, not even jewelers can buy fresh gold for spot prices.Your jewelry isn't "fresh". It's been alloyed and God only knows how many times.
Your 17 grams equals 10.93 dwt (pennyweights).
Gold is measured by professionals by the Troy ounce.
14k gold is 58.3% gold
So you have 6.37 dwt of fine (24k) gold after refining. There are 20 dwt's in an ounce so your gold, at today's spot price is worth
3.12It's doubtful anyone will offer you that much for your gold.
You'd do well to get 75% of spot (2.34)Of course if your piece is nice you might find a jeweler willing to take it on consignment and sell it for you. That often takes quite a long time though...

QUESTION:
Where do you go to get money for your jewelry?
I have a ring, & I'm not sure if it's real or not. It's gold, and has two diamonds on either side of an emerald. I want to find out if it's real or not. Could I just go to a jewelry store, or no? I want to see if it's real, & if it is, I want to sell it since I never wear it.-

QUESTION:
Where's the best place to sell gold items?
Gold's about to go up in prices again. But pawn shops hardly make it worth your while. Anyone out there have any tips for venues that buy gold items at reasonable prices? I prefer traditional brick & mortar stores rather than online. Online or mail-in companies require you to have faith that if you mail them your items, you'll get compensation.
-I'm referring to jewelry items.
-I reside in New York City.
P.S. You can google them and find websites, but I'm hoping to find a REPUTABLE company. Thanks...-
ANSWER:
Jewelry stores would be your best bet.I googled "selling gold jewelry nyc" (without the quotes). The list of ads down the right side had a few NYC jewelers who buy gold items.

QUESTION:
Jewelry Buyer Scam WeBuyDiamondsAndGold?
Last month, I decided to sell my unwanted gold jewelry which cost around 0-0 in total. I saw this website www.webuydiamondsandgold.com where they would send you a prepaid secured envelope to put your jewelry in. After gathering enough information about the company, I sent my jewelries. They told me that I shall get around 0 for the one that costs 5. 3 weeks later, I got a cheque of only 36 cents! I emailed them back and told them that I wanted to send the cheque back and I want jewelry back, as it was mentioned in the letter they sent me. Unfortunately, they never responded to any of my emails and when I called them, their voice mail box was full. I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions?-
ANSWER:
Well you need to find out their postal address, which may be difficult to do. I did an IPwhois on their domain name and it looks like they may have registered it through GoDaddy or an affiliate, and their address is hidden. Here is the administrative contact listed:Domains by Proxy, Inc.
DomainsByProxy.com
15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
United States
(480) 624-2599 Fax -- (480) 624-2598Unfortunately, that is probably just a registry service and not their company. If you are somehow able to find their address, you can file a small claims suit against them. Lookup your state's website on the web or call your local courthouse for more information, as laws vary by state. This may or may not work, considering the company may not have a real address, identity, or they may have temporary addresses.
A few hundred dollars is not really enough to contact a lawyer, but you can if you want. However, their fee will probably be as much or more than your loss. Lastly, you can report this theft to the police. It is better to do it in person and present the evidence you have because they will get confused over the phone and probably dismiss it. But if you go down there and calmly explain what happened, they may be able to help.
Reporting this website to the Better Business Bureau may help other people like yourself not get involved in the first place.
Good luck.
P.S. Do not cash that check. Make a photocopy for your records. The bank account number on the check may be able to link up the identity of the company or proprietor. If/when you go to the police, be sure to take anything relevant such as printouts, the check, documents, etc.

I have some unwanted Gold rings. Where is the best place to sell them?
I understand there is a Global recession at the moment (credit crunch) so the price I will get will reflect this.
Can I ask if I take them to somewhere like Ramsdens jewellers (They buy and sell 2nd hand jewelry) will they just offer me pennies for them
Thank you for your answers.-
ANSWER:
Whatever you do, PLEASE don't use one of these rip-off websites that so generously send you a pre-paid envelope to send them your gold. Go to a few different jewellers and take the best offer.
