Sterling silver is the purest form of silver. It is 92.5% pure silver. The remaining 7.5% consists of other metals, mostly copper. When it comes to jewelry, women love to add new forms to their collection and they love sterling silver because of its cheap prices.
Selling sterling silver is one of the easiest ways and a good option to get money when you need it the most. The value of sterling silver is calculated by multiplying the troy ounce amount with present value of silver.
There are several ways to turn sterling silver jewelry into cash. Due to the emergence several websites that buy and sell sterling silver, options for selling it has become virtually limitless.
One of the quickest and the most popular technique is placing the jewelry on an online auction website, which allows the other visitors and collectors to place their bids on your sterling silver jewelry.
You have the option to start the auction at a low opening bid, setting a minimum reserve price that buyers must meet in order to win the auction. You can even set a fixed price that will allow the items to be purchased immediately. You need to ensure that the photograph of the jewelry you want to sell on the online auction website is of high quality.
Several people prefer selling sterling silver at localpawn shops, as they do not trust buyers or bidders on the Internet. These people can place advertisements in the local newspapers or magazines. It is important to mention your mobile phone number, as potential buyers will want to get in touch with directly. Other contact options include your email address or your home telephone number.
If you get in touch with interested buyers, then show them the jewelry at a public place for safety purposes. In any transaction, it is always advisable for the seller to accept either cash or a money order especially if amount to be received is high.
Experts suggest that selling sterling silver at antique shops, coin dealers or jewelry shops will fetch sellers a good price.

QUESTION:
Do pawn shops have precision scales to weigh gold and silver when you want to sell your stuff?-
ANSWER:
Yes, any pawn shop that's buying gold by weight should have a scale. The level of precision of that scale will vary from shop to shop. I wouldn't worry about it being exact. I would more worry that the scale starts at 0 with nothing on it. If they have it at a negative starting value, then they are trying to scam you into thinking you have less weight than you actually do.

QUESTION:
Where is the best place to sell silver coins in Frederick, Maryland?
I've got some silver coins (and other coins) that I'm looking to sell. I need to know the best place to sell locally in Frederick, Maryland. Thank you for your help!-
ANSWER:
I doubt there are many coins dealers there, so check them out and see what they offer, stay away from antique dealers as well as pawn shops. Usually if a dealers has been at one location for a good many years he is honest. Remember though US coin dealers usually know little about world coins and never offer a fair price. You need to find a dealer who knows those coins.

QUESTION:
Have you ever sold your scrap gold or silver through the mail? What was your impression ?-
ANSWER:
Nope, but it sounds like a huge rip off to me.Even if legit, you only get pennies on the dollar value, your local pawn shops would pay better.
Keep two things in mind. Those tv ads are very expensive, how do you think they pay for them? Secondly, once you stick your jewelry in the postage paid envelope and mail it off what recourse do you have if they send you a check for a penny? None, that is what you have. They will have your items and you will have nothing.
Unless you are trying to dump stolen goods, stick to local pawn shops and jewelers.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and all that.

QUESTION:
Where can you SELL silver at actual spot price? Coin dealers will sell but when the price goes up (say 4xs) ?
coin dealers are willing to sell you Silver Eagles at when spot is but if spot goes to 0 where are you going to sell them? i overheard the coin dealer offering to buy a Eagle at when spot was . So ok they make a profit - but if it goes way up and I want to sell several thousand dollars worth why should they buy it? I mean I am a store owner, I sell a product, I would just sit out the highs...I mean why would i buy your silver coin at spot and tie up my money (say ,000 +) to wait to sell it just to make or so dollars per sale - I mean geez how long would that take? Would I really want to tie up my money like that? I don't know - I'm new at this - I don't get what I am going to do with silver eagles when I feel it time to exit the market?-
ANSWER:
Large dealers are brokers. They turn a profit by trading, just like a stockbroker. They will buy at spot less commission to have inventory to sell at spot plus commission. No inventory, no commission. ALWAYS take possession yourself of your coins and use your own vault, safe deposit box, etc. Years ago a bullion broker charged to store the gold for people and sold it in a ponzi type scheme. People lost everything.

QUESTION:
Where's the best place to go when you're trying to sell your car?
I have a 2000 Honda civic DX 4 door sedan, silver, 116,000 miles. I want to sell this car to someone who knows how to work on cars. I think that'll be the best choice for this car since it does need some fixing up. Is there a good place to sell it at? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I would suggest CraigsList. I sold a car on there last year. It is free to list and you can sell to whoever you want, unlike E-Bay where you have to sell to a high bidder. When you got to the site make sure you pick the city closest to where you live before listing. There are instructions on how to make a listing. It is not hard.http://www.craigslist.com

QUESTION:
why are there so many places out there buying all your gold/silver jewelry all of a sudden?
i noticed lately that so many places are looking to buy your old gold/silver jewelry at decent prices. i also see a lot ads in the papers/periodicals that are looking for the same thing. whats the deal? if i wanted to sell back some of mine, what should i look out for? how do i know i am getting what i should and not ripped off?-
ANSWER:
Look out for companies that ask you to mail your gold in.
Clark Howard from CNN.com has a scam artilcle on this.
You mail in your gold and you get about 1/3 to 1/4th of the value you would get at any pawn shop or local jewelry buyer.
If you want to sell, stay away from anything online.
Leave it for the dummies to mail in their gold and accept whatever offer they get - they will never know if they got a good price or not.
Get three estimates from local stores and sell to the highest bidder.

QUESTION:
How best to sell investment metals?
What do you do when it is time to sell your gold coins, silver bullion, pre-1982 pennies, or any other form of precious or base metal that you bought as an investment?-
ANSWER:
I would have to say ebay will be your best bet for maximum profit and safety if you want to take the time to do it. Depending on when you list them Ebay has been running free basic listing promos for 100 items that's when I usually list items it will save you some money. Also people usually pay a few dollars over spot for silver and gold. Im not sure what kinds of coins you have some have additional collector value and you can usually a few more dollars in addition depending. Factor in ebay and pay pal fees and time spent. There a lot of excellent large dealers out there as well as shady ones you need to research the company and if you plan to go that route when selling to a dealer expect between 5-20% less than spot price.

QUESTION:
Numismatists I need your help: I have a 1892-CC VF Morgan silver Dollar. Should I sell it now or wait?
***ATTENTION -- THIS IS NOT A 'REPOST'. I mistakenly wrote an incorrect date on my previous question. The original post was completely edited. I was prompted to ask some additional questions. I greatly appreciate your help and respectfully request that you give consideration to the question below.****I have an *uncleaned* *uncertified / ungraded* 1892 Carson City Morgan silver Dollar coin. I am not a professional coin grader, but I can say the coin is about VF-25 or VF-30.
A few questions:
1) Should I keep the coin in my safe deposit box and sell it in say...10 - 20 years?
2) What is the current value for a 1892-CC VF Morgan silver Dollar coin like mine?
3) Is there a SIGNIFICANT upward trend in value for the 1892 Carson City Morgan Dollar?
4) If today is the right time to sell; do I sell it on an auction site such as eBay or sell it to an authorized coin dealer.
5) Should I have the coin graded and slabbed before I sell it. PCGS or ANACS?
6) Given the mint and the date, is this a 'key date' coin?
I am not a numismatist, I only have a couple of coins that I keep for investment purposes only.
Keep in mind that the coin has no sentimental value nor is part of a coin collection. I do not need the money right now or in the next ten years for that matter. I simply would like to know if I should keep it longer based SOLELY on its monetary value.
Thank you in advance for your help.
** If possible, please use the same nomenclature to answer the questions. Thank so very much!

ANSWER:
I'm no expert but in case you don't get any answers, here is something:1. I don't see how I or anyone can answer that question. Kinda like asking if I should short Yahoo tomorrow or go long on soybeans. I wouldn't trust any advice from a stranger on the Internet.
2. Let's say 0.
3. Take a look here: http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.com/morgan-dollar-coin.html#1892-CC
4. I would do ebay but you might as well shop it around first.
5. I would get it graded if you plan on keeping it as an investment.
6. Kind of. Mintage much lower than 1891, much higher than 1893. Its current value kind of tells the story.

QUESTION:
What would you do with your silver?
Would you rather have silver bars in your collection or 1964 Kennedy Halves (90% silver) ?I have 14 1964 Kennedy Halves. I would like to sell them (I have a person wanting to purchase them for .50 each) so I would get 5.00 . I would then like to buy 5 silver troy ounces.
Would it be wise to keep the Kennedy halves or sell them to buy 5 troy ounce silver bars?
Thank You
-
ANSWER:
I advise keeping the coins, if your intent is to hold silver long-term.Why?
Because you're really making a sideways move and not accomplishing much. You haven't said if the coins are mint state beauties that might have some additional collector value, so I'm assuming they're average condition, which is essentially a bullion item. At .50 each, you are getting a nice premium above 'melt', which is just over right now, at the top of the market. Dealers are paying no more than each for them. So that's a 25% premium over dealer 'buy' that you are getting. If you were going to be selling silver bars, which are privately-minted and should be avoided unless they're either Engelhard or Johnson-Matthey, you would not see a 25% premium. You might pay ten or fifteen percent over spot to buy them, though. At per bar, it would cost you 5 for 5 ounces. At .36169 X 14, you have 5.06 ounces of pure silver, so you would be a few dollars ahead.
But if silver crashes, which it is historically prone to do, the collector value of those coins will probably once again exceed the bullion value. How many of them, and other pre-'65 coins, do you think are being melted down for bars right now? They are, I can tell you that.
I would keep the coins.

QUESTION:
Where can I buy some silver @ wholesale price?
I want to invest in silver. Not interested in ETFs... Is there a company that sells AND stores your silver in some bank vault?-
ANSWER:
You're asking for best of both worlds (nearly impossible), you don't want to hold it, yet you don't want ETF convenience.Nobody will hold it for you for free, so the storage fees are probably not worth it. Make your decision, either store it yourself, or buy and trade ETF. I believe there's a company called Bullion Desk that does it.

QUESTION:
Does it even make sense to buy gold and silver?
Rationale: If there is a worldwide financial and economic catastrophe nobody will be able to buy your gold and your silver anyways, because they won't have money to begin with and if they do the paper money will be worth nothing. What could you do with your gold and silver if you could not sell it? There is no value in something you can't sell, right?-
ANSWER:
That extreme is so unlikely. You are talking about life as we know it ending-like a giant volcano erupting or being hit by a large meteorite.
So long as a man can work, gold and silver will have value. Gold and silver *are* value. Nevermind how much currency you can buy with your gold, that is not important because in bad times people will gladly accept your gold or silver without needing to convert. In fact they would not even want you to. This is similar to US travelers that have ventured into foreign countries where the native currency is worthless; they beg you to spend your dollars there and in some cases do not even accept their own money from you.
Do your ideas stand up to history in which these metals NEVER IN RECORDED HISTORY have been worthless? If you doubt their value, you doubt the existence of value in anything.
It certainly makes sense to have other things of value available. In all cases possible, food, water, land, guns, gasoline, livestock, non-hybrid seeds and such are the best investments. But you will need things of liquid value too. The former are things that are easier to pillage, steal, confiscate via government or outlaw. Gold can be hidden.

QUESTION:
How are you able to tell if your antique is S.Silver or Aluminium?
I have a vintage bar double jigger that I want to sell, I polished it up with silver cleaner, and now it's like new. I'm pretty sure that it is Sterling Silver, but just in case it may be aluminum, what is the easiest way to tell the difference?-
ANSWER:
You said that you used silver polish on it. If it was tarnished, it is silver. Aluminum doesn't tarnish nor are antiques usually made of it. It will say Sterling somewhere on it if it is Sterling. It may be silver plate.

QUESTION:
Is it reasonable to sell an expensive item as your first sale on e-bay?
I have a 100oz bar of silver that I would like to sell. It's current spot value is around 83.What I'm wondering about is, since I do not have a Feedback score at e-bay, would I have a difficult time selling such an item for its actual worth?
-
ANSWER:
To tell the truth, yes you probably would have a hard time. If I were you I'd sell lots of little things first (old books you don't read anymore that are still fairly popular etc) at reasonable prices, get a good reputation, then sell the silver. And as a general rule, try not to make the postage and packaging more expensive than the item itself - that's a huge turn off!
Hope this helps!

QUESTION:
How do you best price your handmade jewelry for a fast sell and profit?
all handmade by me, materials, price of, and time spent on vary greatly. also, there is transportation and display costs. an example of what i sell is : 16 inch onyx and black agate necklace with a teardrop mother of pearl pendant, 18 inch 3 strand turquoise colored seed beaded necklace with a handmade one of a kind 30mm sterling silver dolphin and hoop pendant. both took about 2.4 hours to make.-
ANSWER:
Normally, price is associated with quality, especially when it comes to handmade jewelry. You don't want to price your jewelry too low because people will think maybe something's wrong with it. Fast sell and good profit are almost like oxymorons when it comes to jewelry. A lot of time and money goes into making it, so don't underprice your jewelry. Of course, this means it might not sell as fast. You can calculate both wholesale and retail price. Labor is the amount you want to pay yourself per hour. Depending on your experience it can be anywhere from and up per hour. A common pricing formula is the following.
Wholesale price = (Materials X 2) + (labor X # of hours)
Retail price = wholesale price X 1.50(50% markup)The markup over the wholesale price can be as high or as low as you want but 50% is pretty common. The display and transportation costs cannot be part of the price since those are business expenses. You have to markup your jewelry to the extent that the price will cover all your expenses plus leave you with a decent profit.

Is it okay to get your ear pierced (second hole and cartilage) with sterling silver studs?
I have my navel pierced with a titanium barbell, but I don't know what metal I should use for my ears. The place I'm getting it done at doesn't sell them, I have to bring them in with me the day I get my piercing. Thanks

ANSWER:
according to the association of professional piercers, silver is a poor choice for an initial piercing.
you should not be able to bring your own jewelry cuz it needs to be properly sterilized.
titanium is great, but surgical stainless steel is also good for most. solid gold would be another choice. (i'm assuming that your concern is a metal allergy)

Also, I was wondering if they sell them at like your local pharmacy (doubt it but it is worth a try). I will be choosing a best answer and I WILL be giving ten points. Thanks for all your support,-
ANSWER:
As with any sex toy you need to be 18 to purchase and you have to get them from an adult store such as Ambiance or a place that can legally sell them. Pharmacies don't/are not allowed to sell them.

QUESTION:
Is it better to sell my silver dollars to a local dealer or at a coin show?
I bought seven rolls of 20 coins each as an investment in the early 1980's. They have generally been a bad investment, but the values have gone up recently. I would like to sell. Which is the wiser course - - selling to a local dealer or at a local coin show (which is coming up in two months)? Some other way? I don't want to sell on eBay. I live in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. For the record, this is what I have:
1 roll 1884-0 pretty darn close to "Brilliant Uncirculated"
1 roll 1921 Morgan - close to "Almost Uncirculated"
3 rolls 1921 Morgan - noticeably below AU but still have very good definition in the hair strands
1 roll 1922 Peace - like the prior roll, it is definitely not AU but also shows no obvious or major wear; also some seem to be dirtier than you'd expect for so little wear
1 roll 1923 Peace - same as immediately aboveI'm not a serious coin collector, although I enjoy coins.
Thank you in advance for your help.

ANSWER:
This does not lend itself to a definitive answer. In theory you should get a better price at a coin show because you will have more potential buyers. You will need to do your homework first in order to get the best price. You need to determine what the value of these rolls is. 140 silver dollars is quite a lot to lug around. You might also be faced with the problem of trying to unload so many at one time but perhaps not. Silver dollars have always been very popular and relatively easy to buy and sell. The Peace should be worth about each there abouts. The 21 Morgans about the same. The 84-o is a different story. These were weakly struck in general so BUs might actually appear as AU because of the strike. Full strikes are premium coins. A dealer may very well attempt to low ball you on these. Full Strike BUs are worth maybe ++ each. BUs maybe . AU maybe .
I think I would try a local dealer first. No harm in that.

QUESTION:
Coin Collectors please HELP!! -- 1892 Carson City VF Morgan silver Dollar. Should I sell it now or wait?
PLEASE HELP!I have an *uncleaned* *uncertified / ungraded* 1892-CC Morgan silver Dollar coin. I am not a professional coin grader, but I can say the coin is about VF-25 or VF-30.
A few questions:
1) What is the current value for a 1892-CC VF Morgan silver Dollar coin like mine?
2) Is there a SIGNIFICANT upward trend in value for the 1892 Carson City Morgan Dollar?
3) Should I keep the coin in my safe deposit box and sell it in say...10 - 20 years? If today is the right time to sell; do I sell it on an auction site such as eBay or sell it to an authorized coin dealer.
4) Should I have the coin graded and slabbed before I sell it. PCGS or ANACS?
7) Given the mint and the date, is this a 'key date' coin?
I am not a numismatist, I only have a couple of coins that I keep for investment purposes ONLY.
Keep in mind that the coin has no sentimental value nor is part of a coin collection. I do not need the money right now or in the next ten years for that matter. I simply would like to know if I should keep it longer based SOLELY on its monetary value.
I GREATLY appreciate your help. Thank you.
@curtisports2. I am truly sorry for 'reposting'. I mistakenly wrote an incorrect date on my previous question. The question was answered based on the assumption that the coin had a 1882 date. The coin that I own has a 1892 (eighteen ninety-two) date.@all - I greatly appreciate your help and respectfully request that you give consideration to the question below
-
ANSWER:
I answered this exact question within the last week, and spent a good deal of time doing it. Looking at my answered questions, I see that the question was deleted. My bad, I did not notice the date change. This does make a difference in the value, but not my advice in the original answer.
1892 is definitely a better date amongst the Carson City dollars. The 1889 is the undisputed king. However, a collector's grade coin won't have the same investment potential that a high mint state coin will. I would still sell this coin now.
But, having it graded will unquestionably help. There are numerous low-grade examples selling on eBay in the - range. Sellers are calling them anywhere from Good to Very Good, when they're actually AG to Good. A PCGS certified VF-30 is topping 0 presently, and a Fine-12 is close to 0 (guide value is 5). Putting yours on eBay in raw form, with good pictures, might get you 0 to 5, so the grading fee will pay for itself and then some, even if it comes back only a VF-20.
I would also consider NGC, but not ANACS. The market just does not price ANACS coins, in the same grade, at PCGS or NGC levels.
