  7. QUESTION:
How do i go about selling gold jewellery or taking a loan against jewellery?

    • ANSWER:
In the present day prices you (middle class people) can not imagine of buying any gold ornaments. So why do you ant to sell them. By selling even in renowned shop like Tanishq you will get only 50% of the weight-age - i.e. They deduct for soldering, wastage, discount for old jewelery, stone setting and finally Purity. The gold you have may not be Hall marked one and it will have only 16 to carat purity. They will take into all this and give you 50% equivalent only.

So you have to take loan only.

for this also please do not go to any Pawn brokers they will charges o exorbitantly and in course of 3 years they will swallow your gold. You will also get less than 50% value only as loan.

Now a days most of the banks given jewelery loan and the rate of interest is also very much comparable. They will ask you for address and other proofs and you have to open an account and take loan. Please try-.

The three lowest paying sites were goldkit (), brokengold () and cash4gold (). The top site was http://www.USGoldRefining.com (0). I went to a pawn shop and found that they would pay 0.

I would strongly suggest checking out the Silver and Gold Exchange before selling gold or silver to ANYONE. I did a great deal of research, online and offline, and learned a lot about this business. I checked pawn shops, jewelers, "gold parties", hotel "buying events as well as the online buyers, including the "as seen on tv" guys. I found that the Silver and Gold Exchange paid more than anyone else I could find. I liked the fact that they post the prices they pay per gram (beware of the places that quote in pennyweight/DWT) on a live price chart at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com I also checked out their Better Business Bureau report and found they have never had a single complaint as opposed to HUNDREDS of complaints some other companies have! I recommend them 100%

  13. QUESTION:
How can I get the best yeild from selling old gold jewelry?
I have several pieces of mostly 14K gold that was given to me by a family member (for the purpose of selling). What is the best way to go about getting actual (or close to) value for these?

    • ANSWER:
You need to find out what the value of the pieces are from an appraiser if you want to keep the jewelry intact. If you want to separate the gold from the other metals that make up the jewelry, then you need to do some chemistry work. Gold will dissolve in either Aquia Regia, which is a combination of acids, from which the gold can be extracted in it's pure form. Gold can also be changed into Gold Chloride by dissolving it in a solution of water, calcium chloride, and some acid, such as sulfuric acid. The gold can then be selectively precipitated out of solution. It all depends on how you want to sell the jewelry, as is, for what somebody would pay for it, or as separate metal for the market value of the gold itself.

  14. QUESTION:
How much is gold selling for per ounce?
I'm going to sell my gold jewelry that I do not wear. I would like to find the rate that gold is selling for now.

    • ANSWER:
It is currently hovering between 70 and 60 per ounce for the pure gold.

You could send your old jewelery to www.kitco.com they have a buy back service and their margins are fairly low.

The scrap value for 10 ct gold would be about 0 per oz, less refining cost. 18 ct would be about 0 per oz.

It could be more beneficial to sell the jewelery intact on ebay, or to a jewellery buyer, you could realize a greater than scrap value.

If you think that the world economy is going to improve and the US$ is going to increase in value then it would be a time to sell gold.

But if you believe that the US$ is going down the drain then it would not be advisable to sell gold unless you had to.

But in all markets there are short term fluctuations that allow for a profit in either camp.

If you have a good need for the funds then go ahead and sell as you will have gained a considerable increase over the last year in the value.

      Good luck

  27. QUESTION:
Is it better to sell gold jewellery on eBay.com or eBay.ca?
Which site gets more views? I live in Canada an realize that we probably don't get alot of attention in advanced search because most of the stuff being sold is cheap plated pieces. In addition, there are not many Canadians listing their jewellery (not sure why).

The States is much bigger hence the mountainous selection of fine jewellery!

    • ANSWER:
I say the bigger audience offers the potential for the bigger sale as well as the better chance for selling. I would go for ebay.com first. Set a reserve so you get what you want.

I would also check with http://www.refinity.com as they guarantee the best price for gold and gold jewelry. See what they will pay and then you have your bottom line price.

  28. QUESTION:
Where should I sell my gold jewelry?
I hear that the best places to sell gold jewelry are brokerage firms or estate jewelry houses. Where should I sell my gold to get the best price? And what are any tips for negotiating the best price when I am selling? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It all depends on what you have. If your jewelry is in nice shape and at least 14kt or 18kt gold, many estate jewelry buyers will express interest and pay a bit better.

If the jewelry is damaged, or common pieces you still see in chain stores, you might as well sell it for gold weight...and in that case watch the gold markets for a nice gold spike because gold is paid on closing price.

Also, look into some private jewelry stores. Sometimes they do consignment for a percentage and you could maximize your dollar out of that.

      Hope that helps...

  32. QUESTION:
When selling gold, why isn't white gold worth more htan yellow gold since it costs more when buying jewelry?
When buying jewelry, white gold is higher priced than yellow gold. So, why isn't it worth more when selling it to be melted down into other jewelry? Why do these places that buy gold only look at the karet count of the gold, and not if it is white or yellow gold?

    • ANSWER:
White gold is actually yellow gold covered in rhodium plating. So it is more expensive to buy because it has a few extra steps along the way. The rhodium gives it the white appeareance. When you sell it back, they are melting it down and separating the metals so they only want to know how much actual gold is in the jewelry (karatage) and they want to separate it from the alloy metals.

  42. QUESTION:
    Selling Gold Jewelry?
Hello, my mom is looking to sell some 14 KT gold jewelry for money. A few bullion gold buyers wouldn't buy from individuals but the website USGOLDBUYERS.COM would. Is this website legitimate? Does anyone have any better gold buying websites (that will accept 14 KT jewelry)? What about verification and insurance, I work at a lab so was able to get the exact weight (to the 10th of a millgram) with an analytical balance. How does one know that they will get the same weight agree to the purity (14 Kt)? Once you send it in is there proof of submission and do you have the option to turn down their offer and get your jewelry back?

    • ANSWER:
Well. spot gold price is 5.70 / troy ounce. Divide by 31.1 grams / troy ounce, then multiply by 14/24, because of the 14K. So the gold in your jewelry is worth .30 / gram. Probably a bullion buyer will not offer you more than the spot value, and may offer you substantially less.

You can check spot prices anytime, they change often:

  45. QUESTION:
Where do you recommend to sell my gold jewellery?

    • ANSWER:
Obviously every gold buyer in the world is gonna jump all over this question and tell you to sell to them, LOL. I would get feedback from those who sold jewelry in your local area. Selling locally in person is always best. I heard some crazy stories from people about those mail-in companies.

My friends and I sold to a gold party company called goldpartying.com. They came to my house and bought my things along with my guests' jewelry and I got paid a lot of $. Not only did I make $ off my own stuff, but I made a % of the total amount they bought from the whole party. So in the end, I got about 00 (not including my food reimbursement). Some of my guests had already gotten quotes from a few local stores and buyers and this company ended up paying out way more, so we were all very happy with them. And not only did we make a lot of $, it was a lot more fun doing it as a party with all my friends! I believe their website is www.goldpartying.com if you wanna check them out.

  46. QUESTION:
Best way to sell gold jewelry?
I have a lot of gold jewelry, some of which is damaged but suspect that it is worth more melted down than in its current form. Where does one go to sell gold like this without being ripped off? If your advice is to use Cash4Gold, then please don't bother responding.

    • ANSWER:
You are never going to get market value for your gold. A lot of people forget that it is a business and there are expenses. About 2% of the gold immediately evaporates upon melting, market price may drop, rent, assay fees, permits, labor, taxes, etc etc. Also market prices are based on 1,000 ounces of bullion (bars, coins etc) on a trading level.

If you have one ounce of jewelry, and gold is ,000 a ounce you don't get ,000 for that jewelry. Most jewelry is 14k gold and that is only 58.5% pure gold.

      10k- 41.7% Gold
      14k- 58.5% Gold
      18k- 75% Gold
      22k- 91.7% Gold

I am a refiner and diamond buyer in Florida, and will give you the information you need to sell your items without getting ripped off.

Gold (Based on todays price of 3/oz)- 10k- gram, 14k- gram, 18k- gram.

      Silver- 925/Sterling- a ounce.

This is the absolute least you should get per gram. A lot of place buy it according to pennyweight (DWT) to convert grams to pennyweight just multiply the gram price by 1.55.

I pay around 6% more than the numbers I listed above for 100 grams of gold OR LESS, if you 100-200 grams I pay 10% more than the prices above, 200 grams or more 12% more than the prices above.

I buy from jewelers, dealers, pawn shops, and the public all over the country. If you know the approx weight and karat of the gold I will pay you PRIOR to you shipping your items using paypal. If you dont have a scale I send them to customers FREE OF CHARGE! If that sounds like something you would be interested in doing call me anytime. My number is tollfree. (877) 487-1386. Either way I hope you get a fair price no matter who you sell it too. Just Do YOUR RESEARCH!!!

A few last things. If you have any gold or silver coins or bars (bullion) you should get about 1%-2% below market value if they are pure gold (most are) since they do not need to be melted.

Also now is NOT the time to sell anything but gold, silver or platinum. If you have diamonds (larger than a 1/2ct), or a high end watch, KEEP THEM IT!! Wait until the economy rebounds a little. You would get half of what you would of got 6 months ago for them!!

      Hope this helped.

  47. QUESTION:
How many ounces makes a gram for Gold?
I have a watch that belonged to an old friend of mine. It say's Hong Kong on it. It is very soft which I learned real Gold is soft. It is heavy. The watch piece has been taken out. I sold some things at the jewelry store the other day. Which they paid .50 per gram. A friend said to call other jewelry stores to see what they are selling Gold for per gram? Any suggestions would be helpful. This is my first time selling Gold jewelry. So if you can give me the real prices and help I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

    • ANSWER:
Gold is sold in Troy Ounces, and there are 31.1 grams in a Troy ounce (vice 28.35 grams in a standard ounce). Pure gold is presently 05 per troy ounce or .74 per gram. Jewelry is seldom pure (24 karat) gold. For example, 18 Karat gold is 18/24 or 75% pure gold and sells for proportionately less.

Standard ounces and Troy ounces are not the same thing, and confusing the two is a common mistake.

  48. QUESTION:
Selling jewelry, selling gold, selling gems..?
What steps do I need to take to sell this jewelry?

Some is very old, even antique -- some would only be grandparents or great grandparents (1800s-1900s)

Mainly gold chains, but a few key pieces of costume jewelry with heavy amounts of gold and gems inserted. (Not sure how much they weigh, im guestimating them all)

Other than weighing the gold myself, how would I go about actually getting the value of these pieces I want to sell? I would take to a jewelry shop that buys -- but I do not want to get ripped off. Nothing is appraised. And some of the older pieces do not have visible karat labels on them that I can see.

Completely clueless about the gems.. how do I find out the actual quality and value of my diamonds and other gems...

    • ANSWER:
I am a refiner and diamond buyer in Florida, and will give you the information you need to sell your items without getting ripped off.

Gold (Based on todays price of 3/oz)- 10k- gram, 14k- gram, 18k- gram.

      Silver- 925/Sterling- a ounce.

This is the absolute least you should get per gram. A lot of place buy it according to pennyweight (DWT) to convert grams to pennyweight just multiply the gram price by 1.55.

I pay around 6% more than the numbers I listed above, if you want to sell them to me give me a call at 877-487-1386. If you know the weight I can pay you via paypal even before you ship out your items.

The diamonds are nearly imposible to know because so many factors go into the selling price. I personally WOULD NOT sell any diamonds, gems etc. right now because of the economy. Diamond prices are down 60% from 6 months ago. Now is the time to sell any gold or silver but not diamonds, gems, or costume jewelry.

      Hope this helped.

  49. QUESTION:
Selling jewellery....... How much would I get for gold eternity ring 18 ct 0.4, 5 diamonds in criss cross?
Where do I go to sell it? Tried ebay, no luck. Are pawnbrokers who buy 2nd hand jewellery ok?

    • ANSWER:
you'll get scrap value if you sell to a pawn broker or a jeweler which is like gram (=nothing)...average ladies rg = 6 grams ... your best bet is to put it for sale on craigslist.com or in the paper and sell it privately....and try for 1/2 of what you paid as it's used....unless you have an appraisal to verify what it's worth....then try to sell it just under appraisal value

  50. QUESTION:
What is the best process for selling a few pieces of gold jewelry?
I don't want to walk blindly into a jewelry store that advertises that they buy gold jewelry without having some kind of idea of what to expect. I figure I should go to several and then pick the best price, but I don't know anything about gold pricing, etc.

    • ANSWER:
Have the jewelry appraised first. Then go to several places with your appraisal in hand. You might also want to consider selling it yourself. Post on Craigslist or other free classifieds, list on ebay or put an add in your local newspaper.
