Selling Gold Jewelry For Cash

Here are 4 tips for selling gold that will help you get the absolute most cash for gold. These tips for selling gold may sound easy enough but don't under estimate their value.

Tips For Selling Gold

1.) First you will need to look into finding a good company that is licensed when it comes to handling gold. This is important because in many places the only companies that are allowed to buy gold are ones that have been properly licensed by a local licensing board. Looking into a company that is licensed is one of the most important tips for selling gold.

2.)
Another idea is to work with a company that has its own refinery. Companies with their own refineries are ones that will pay you more money for your gold than others. This is because of how there is no need to worry about a middleman in a transaction that can take away from any earnings that you may have.

3.)
There is an old saying you don't get what you want you get what you negotiate. It is always good to negotiate with a company that buys gold. Many gold buyers will negotiate with sellers to get a fair price for one's gold. Once again dealing with a company that owns a refinery will enable you to negotiate a better price for you gold.

4.) The last tip is to look into getting an appraisal before selling your gold. This is especially handy if you have a large amount of gold to sell. Your gold will be sorted according to its quality and worth.

These are all important things to do when you are looking to sell your gold for money. Do your homework and find evidence that a company does what they claim to do. Be sure to use these tips for selling gold when you are looking to get the most cash for gold possible.

Instead, take your gold to a reputable jeweler in your area for an appraisal. Note the carat of the metal, and ask the jeweler to tell you the weight in pennyweights or troy ounces. Use this online calculator to figure out the value based on the price of gold that day. Then quickly (because prices fluctuate) call several jewelry or coin stores and ask how much they pay for gold. If you sell your gold jewelry at one of those places that buys your gold, who buys the gold from them? • ANSWER:
No, they're ripping people off by exploiting fears of a global economic meltdown. Keep your shinies for yourself. Or, if you really want to sell them, then sell them to a company that doesn't ask you to mail your goods to them before they'll pay you.

  14. QUESTION:
Cash 4 Gold - Are they a good way to get cash for gold?
I am in need of some extra money. I have a lot of gold jewelry that I do not wear anymore. Should I sell my gold jewelry to Cash 4 Gold? Has anyone ever used Cash 4 Gold?

    • ANSWER:
Cash for gold isn't buying jewelery. They're buying gold to be melted down and reclaimed. Because of this, they won't pay you anywhere near as much as you could get selling your jewelery elsewhere. They only pay you for the gold content. Any diamonds, rubies, etc, don't count. The following is from WESH 2 News:

ORLANDO, Fla. -- You've seen the ads. You need the money, so why not take a chance?

Send in Grandma's ring or Aunt Bessie's bracelet, but what can you get by sending your old gold jewelry to companies advertising cash for gold?

One commercial on television shows a woman saying, "I sent in my diamond ring from my first marriage and got more money than I could have ever imagined."

Another says, "I got 3. All I did was look through my drawer full of jewelry I never wear."

To check on the claims, WESH 2 News reporter Craig Lucie collected some jewelry and had it appraised at Reynolds and Co. in Winter Park.

Jeweler David Reynolds used an acid test to determine how knows how much pure gold is in each bracelet. One was gold-plated, the other was 18 karat, the third 14 karat.

After weighing them, he determines that one would fetch about and another about .50. The gold-plated piece would get only pennies on the dollar and not worth sending.

WESH 2 News sent the pieces to Cash 4 Gold and Gold Kit.

Gold Kit returns .01 for the gold-plated bracelet.

Cash 4 Gold sent a a check for .09 for the other two bracelets, which were appraised for .50.

An attorney for the company, Mike Casey, said Cash 4 Gold is paying only for the "scrap gold" to melt it down. He added a jeweler would not ever pay face value.

Casey even suggested selling your gold on eBay or Craigslist.

  15. QUESTION:
How and where do i to sell some gold jewellery for cash?
    hi
i recently received some very pretty looking jewellery for my 16th birthday. But now i want sell some of those jewellery to get some cash money. i don't want to sell the stuff through postage or through online stuff.
i just need to sell the stuff in some shops or in websites that give you cash straight to your hand.

    thaks

    • ANSWER:
Pawn shops or places where they sell old jewelry, but they may have to melt them down no matter how precious yours are. Others will sell them as is, if they're in tip top shape and are antique.

Ex: 0 you will be lucky to get cash. Don't send them out by mail, you'll never see your cash money.

Also put an ad on craigslist, but have someone WITH YOU go meet them in a restaurant or someplace public, for collectors, you could get lucky!

  16. QUESTION:
Anyone ever sell old gold or silver jewelry for cash?
Was it worth it? Did you get a good payout on it?

    • ANSWER:
The only way to get it's true value is to hold an auction.

  17. QUESTION:
how much is 40 grams of 22 karat gold jewelry worth if I sell some gold for cash?

    • ANSWER:
      Worth is a relative term.
If you need cash, chances are you'll accept less than the gold is actually worth (on the open market.)

22K gold is 91.7% fine gold.
Gold is weighed in Troy. There are 1.555 grams in a pennyweight (dwt) and 20 dwt per Troy ounce.
So you must first convert grams to pennyweights:
      40g X .643 = 25.72 dwt
Then to discover the amount of fine gold you multiply by .917
      25.72 X .917 = 23.58 dwt

Gold on Friday was 2.30 per ounce. But that price is for futures trading and to get that price you must take delivery of 100 Troy ounces!
That's a lot of dead presidents!
Otherwise you'll pay a % over spot depending on the deal your broker will cut you. Assume 10% though. And that's the buying price. The selling will be less.

But to help you understand what you have, take the price of gold 2.30 and divide by 20 (20 dwt per ounce) = .12 per dwt. and multiply this by the number of dwt's you have: 5.18

But look at it from a jewelers POV. I need gold to make jewelry. As another answerer stated, it's difficult for a jeweler to determine if your gold is actually 22k. There is acid made for that test, but it's not super reliable. The best I can say with any accuracy is that what you have is at least 18K (75% gold).

But regardless, I might only buy gold when I have an order for it. If I buy your's its purely on speculation. I simply won't pay spot for gold that I don't need or have a customer for.

  18. QUESTION:

  23. QUESTION:
What should I do with unwanted gold jewelry?
Including items that are broken or damaged? Is it better to sell the gold for cash or have it fashioned into a new piece of jewelry?
Serious answers only please...don't answer just for points.

    • ANSWER:
You certainly could attempt to sell the items to a jeweler and reap some cash back on that transaction. However, I think it would be nice to have the gold melted down and fashioned into a new piece for yourself.. perhaps a nugget charm or a nice signet ring. Depending on what you are having melted, the jeweler can tell you what can be created. Also, since you are providing the gold, the cost of fashioning a new item should be minimal. Be aware though, you should take it to an upstanding jeweler.. perhaps one that your family has used for sometime.

  43. QUESTION:
What is the best way to sell nice jewelry as I would rather have the cash?
It is rings with gold and diamonds, necklaces, gold chains, etc. I am in no hurry and would like to get what I paid for it if possible.

    • ANSWER:
It is highly unlikely that you would ever get back what you paid for jewellery - new jewellery will always sell for more than second hand jewellery, just like every other thing out there. The exception will be extremely high quality/rare gems and sometimes being made by a famous jewellery house will increase the reselling price.

You may be best to find an "estate jeweller". These jewellers deal in second hand and vintage jewellery. They will be able to give you a price as to what they would take it for and you can decide if you want to sell it or not. Chains etc., that have no gems are often just sold for the gold value - so it will be weighed and a price per gram applied.

Otherwise, try and sell it privately, you could place an advertisement in your local paper or trading/selling journal perhaps?

  44. QUESTION:
I want to sell my engagement ring? who buys jewelry? i dont trust sening it off to a cash for gold place.?

    • ANSWER:
Get the ring appraised at a few jewelers, i say a few because one jeweler may think its worth more than another and this way you'll have some idea what you should be able to get for it. DO NOT SELL TO A CASH FOR GOLD PLACE! Those places are for people that need the money badly and they will absolutely rip you off!

I have a few gold necklaces that I would like cash for. Is there any jewelry stores that will buy them? Have you ever used a gold buying website? How much is used gold jewelry worth?

With the price of gold being as high as it is right now, most jewelry stores are buying gold jewelry. I wouldn't use any company where you have to mail the jewelry to them. I've heard of jewelry being stolen that way.
