One is to find a website that provides information about the kind of jewelry that she makes and add a page of her own with her stuff; Another is to create a website and start marketing her stuff as a business of her own; Another is to start selling her stuff on some auction type sites and see if it sells or what sells best. To find out if there is a real market before making that kind of investment though she may want to start out selling locally at craft fairs and at some of the local boutiques. Then she can get a feel for what stuff sells best and how much to charge. Selling online will cost her an investment that she might avoid if she starts out locally first.

     My wife started reselling fashion jewelry last May from a jeweller in the Philippines. She found the jeweller's site on a free ads website, USnetads.com

     So if your question is if there will be a profit? YES. We have a 38% markup and it pays the bills. Not bad as an additional source of income. My wife offers the products to our friends and thru referrals here in Wisconsin. And if you are planning to sell online, where ever you may be, you will reach customers all over the world.      Well first of all I can tell you based on myself trying to sell my pearls to jewelry brokers, pearls are not wanted by sellers anymore. They all have told me the same thing when I asked why they won't buy it: "We don't take pearls anymore because they are not in style. Customers don't shop for pearls anymore. It's now gold or real silver jewelry, stones or diamonds. You will be lucky if you find anyone to purchase your pearls." Truth is, I have not and no one will. Why don't you look around at your local jewelers and see what they are selling. You want to be in the now when it comes to selling product in this economy. You want to be in style or yes you will find yourself having a stock of jewelry that is not moving. Unless of course if this is just a hobby or part time thing you are doing aside from a full time job, then by all means go for it. However, have other items beside pearl jewelry so you do not get stuck wasting $$ being put into the business and not have purchases. Mix it up in your collection.

      An online shop, like any shop, requires marketing and promotion. You first have to reach a strategic decision whether you are better with your own jewelry website (much higher expenses) or under the umbrella of a marketplace such as Etsy (much higher competition). You then have to start promoting your shop online and draw traffic to it. Participate in forums and communities where your target audience hangs and sign your posts with your site's url.

      Not successful. Too much competition. And there are hundreds of stores selling jewelry, too. Even Target and KMart sell jewelry. You could get lucky and be the one out of 100 that makes money. If your jewelry is so unique that it gets discovered by the public ( or by a celebrity).

      Your jewelry is really cute -- I definitely think there's a market for it. It could take a while to replace the income from your job by selling jewelry, but you should easily be able to cover your costs.

      Have you considered selling on eBay? Etsy is more craft-oriented, I know, but eBay has several advantages:

      1)eBay gets more traffic than Etsy (actually, eBay gets more traffic than almost any website that's not a search engine). That's just more people who would have a chance to buy your jewelry, which means they're more likely to.

      2) eBay lets you sell on an auction, instead of guessing what a good price would be. You may find that people are willing to pay quite a bit more than you think! Also, by seeing what sells for the highest prices, you can tell what kinds of jewelry people like the best.

      3) eBay saves you having to do branding. At Etsy, you really need people to say to themselves, "Gosh, this tigrita does cool stuff; I should go see what they have for sale today." On eBay you just need them to say, "I need a pair of oval-shaped earrings; let me go see what looks cool."

      4) If you get a job, or take up another hobby, or have stuff sell faster than you were expecting, or whatever, having an empty store at Etsy looks bad. But no one cares at eBay if you're not currently selling anything.

      You can also use eBay to drive traffic to your other stores; just say "Like this? Check out other jewelry by tigrita at http://www.etsy.com/shop/tigrita" So I would give it a shot and see how it turns out.

This way you can name the price for your jewelry. There are many web hosts that will charge a low cost annual fee to host your site. I chose a web host that has a step by step plan to assist in the proper design and build of a website. I paid less than per day for my project and just after two short months my site was getting targeted traffic consistently.

The main reason buyers will hesitate purchasing genuine gold or diamond or jade jewelries online is that they are afraid of getting fakes. Add to that the customs duties being demanded for importing these items in certain countries. You need to secure proofs that the items you are buying for resale will have certificates of authenticity - for jewelries, there are standard institutions that provide this to legitimate sellers. And you also need to check the custom or trade policies to follow if you are going to import jades in bulk.

    I have ruby quartz, CZ, and freshwater pearl rings in sterling silver and gold coated alloy that I am trying to sell online. Ebay is proving to be rather expensive (5 day auctions don't always sell yet you are still liable for fees, and the costs of keeping an auction open later or until sold is so expensive it isn't worth it for selling lower end jewelry).

    I am not looking to sell jewelry full time so I don't want to go through the time of starting and promoting my own site- I bought some inventory from a store that was closing, and was able to sell most of the high end jewelry rather quickly but I have these costume rings that I need to get rid of.

    I asked one of my friends who sells jewelry and she told me she has a store at Etsy but I looked at the site and it said sales items have to be home made or vintage. I do have about 3 or 4 vintage rings that will qualify, but the vast majority don't apply...they are really nice looking and I think if I can find a venue to put them up for sale I will be able to sell off the remaining inventory that I have.

    I received some jewelry for my 18th birthday in August '08. I don't wear much jewelry so I am looking for a way to sell it easily online.

    This is my first time selling online. What sites can I be able to sell my unworn jewelry on besides E-bay? Or am I better of selling it to a pawn shop?

    Any advice will be helpful.
    The jewelry I am trying to get rid of is fashion jewelry (bracelet with diamonds), not real gold or real diamonds. And a couple of silver anklets (ankle bracelets) and a pair of silver earrings.
