     Multiply the weight in grams by the "K" rating of the piece, and then divide that number by 24.
     Multiply the adjusted weight in grams by the spot price (currently US/gram)

     This is the value of the gold in the piece at current spot price.

     You cannot necessarily expect to sell at spot price, although you may. Most of those places offer you less than spot value for your gold, they are in business to make money. Nobody is likely to offer you more than spot value.

     You will probably get teh pest prices on a private sale.

      Your best bet is to sell on sites like Ebay. Those places that have you mail it in will disappoint you.

      That 900 bucks is for bullion which is nearly pure. Jewelry is always an alloy, the lower the number, the lower the percentage of gold content. 24 karat is pure, 14 karat is only about 60% pure. The price is also in "troy" ounces which are 31 grams, not 28 grams.

      So if you have 2 oz. of 14k to scrap you think 1800 bucks.
      Really =1.8 ozt
      14 k =1.09 ozt=981 bucks
      They give 75%spot (generous)=735 bucks
      If there are any gemstones, the weight is reduced and they keep the stones free.

      Quite a big difference wouldn't you say?
      Ebay buyers regularly pay above the spot for a well-written ad.

      They are making a TON of money by scamming the public, I researched three different companies and they all had the SAME phone number.

As for pawn brokers, they may pay whatever they can get away with. I would advise you to talk to more than one jeweller before selling your jewellery.

      Country, denomination, date, mint mark (if any, or if you do not know what to look for).

      If a coin is common (large number minted) and heavily worn, it might only be worth gold or silver value. That is based on purity and weight, which is easily determined.

      If a coin is rare, then it is worth selling to a coin dealer. If very rare, perhaps worth auctioning. You need to learn more before having any idea of the best way to sell.

      Well It depends on whom you sell it to. If you sell it to a pawn shop or jewelry store, all they want to do with it is resell it to someone else. So if it is broken or chipped or dirty or messed up in some way then they wont give you as much for it cause there is a smaller chance of someone buying it from them. If it has a lot of gold in it you can sell it to a jewelry maker or a factory that sells gold and they will melt it down and give you money for whatever amount of actual gold is there, cause they can then make whatever they want out of it.

You don't know what your gold weighs and you have no way of knowing if the weight they give you is correct. If you decline their offer, you are charged postage and insurance on the shipment - both ways.

      Get 3 estimates, and tell each shop what you are doing, so they know you are shopping around and give you the best price.
