why does silver jewelry and gemstones cost so much? This is a line which most people selling quality silver jewelry have heard often while selling their pieces. The simple reason why customers are prone to believing why silver jewelry ought to be cheaper than gold jewelry is because the price of silver is about 1/50th of the price of gold.
At the same time you know the amount of effort, time, creativity, labor (and more importantly the amount of silver) that has gone into the creation of that beautiful piece of silver jewelry. And you don?t really want to sacrifice all that, do you?
So how do you sell your silver jewelry? Here are a few suggestions that you can use:
1) Keep the pricing of all the jewelry you make in a certain range. Most galleries don?t deal in designers who sell their jewelry below a certain price range. If you are in competition with the different market players, make sure that your prices are also competitive. Also, it is important to know that most galleries generally take a percentage of your retail price as their commission. Factor that into your pricing strategies.
2) Be where your market is. This is a fundamental concept. Depending upon the kind of work you do, you should sell where people looking for your kind of work are likely to be buying.
3) Your jewel is a work of art. It is your talent and your vision. Sell that to the client ? not the materials. What you are making is not an ordinary ring or bracelet. Creating a lovely piece of jewelry involves lot of hard work and time. Convince your customers accordingly.
4) Retain your high quality. Stress on the durability of your piece of jewelry. That is always important. Your clients should know that for the price that they are paying, the piece of jewelry will last them a long time.
5) Educate the customers about the care of the jewelry. Most designers often provide a silver polishing cloth along with the jewelry. Also educate your clients regarding the gemstone that they are buying. some gemstones such as coral or pearls etc should not be polished along with the silver to retain their original luster and shine. While selling your piece, tell the customer how to best take care of the jewelry item that they have purchased.
6) Most often a beautiful (and highly priced) jewelry piece has a story behind it. Tell your clients what inspired you to design / craft that beautiful work of art. So many times, an interesting and captivating story will easily sell the piece for you.
7) Accept credit cards. Most clients buy jewelry on impulse. They may not be carrying cash or cheque books with them. Make sure that you can accept their money, in whatever mode that they can pay. It doesn?t cost much to be able to accept credit card payments. And it is often a preferred mode of payment ? especially for costly items of jewelry.
And the most important rule of all ? maintain your exclusivity. Don?t ever compete with mass purchased jewelry. Make sure that your jewelry pieces are exclusive and that your clients know it.
All these tips should help you sell your exclusive and quality silver jewelry and gemstones to clients and help you explain to the clients that they are not just buying a ring or a bracelet - they are buying a work of art.

QUESTION:
How do I go about selling physical silver?
I inherited a "monster box" silver set from a relative. Silver is currently at roughly .00 an ounce, which, I think, makes this worth around ,000. Im curious how one would go about selling this.-
ANSWER:
I'll buy it for ,000 if you want to sell it.Would just take me a few days to transfer funds into my checking account. I can wire to your account.
Is the box still sealed?
I'm a little short right now because I just bought one of these things a few days ago.
Other than sell it to me, you can sell it to any number of coin and precious metal dealers. One I like is Golden Eagle Coins in Maryland. Their web site is here: http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com/ They buy from investors.

QUESTION:
How is profit made on selling silver tableware to a refinery treated for tax purposes?
Purchased silver flatware and holloware (mostly dented) for the purpose of reselling to a refinery as scrap silver to make a profit. Most of the pieces were purchased 1-2 years ago; a few within the last year. However, it was refined in one batch with one payout.
Would that profit be treated as ordinary income or capital gain? What are the tax rates?
If capital gain, how would I separate the profit (payout minus basis) into long term and short term gain since it was refined in one big batch with one payout?
-
ANSWER:
How much money are we talking here? Is this a profitable endeavorCapital gain. the items you purchased more than a year before selllng are long term. and those that you bought less than a year before selling are short term.
you will enter your purchase date and $ paid for it. Then you enter sales date, which will be same for all entries since you sold all at one time. Do you know the weights of each purchase? You would prorate the total price recieved in the sale by the % of weight that each purchase represents.

QUESTION:
Who esle is selling silver or looking to go short?
Silver hit .50 an ounce today. Way overpriced in my opinion. If you look at a five day chart, it was just .50 last week. We are not in a good enough market for something like silver to jump that much in a week on ungiven terms. Slv is not the benchmark the world watches like gld or uso.-
ANSWER:
If your only analysis is a five day chart, you do not have an investable idea.Silver and gold tend to move together for a variety of reasons. Both are viewed as a hedge against expected inflation and dollar weakness. Both are often found in the same rock formations.
Gold is primarily used in jewelry and coins. Silver has more industrial uses. Look at the supply and demand fundamentals before investing.
Disclosure: I'm long SLV.

QUESTION:
Which online companies are reliable and have good reviews for selling silver?
I am planning on buying silver but I can't find any good sites that have good reviews. I have taken a look at some online sites such as Goldline (which i will never buy from due to them having so many bad reviews) and others but most seem to not be reliable. are there any good sites that have a reputation for being reliable?-
ANSWER:
What do you mean by 'reliable'? Reliable to me means getting exactly what I buy, hassle-free. You won't have a problem getting what you buy with Goldline.Where people run into problems with Goldline is in not knowing what they are doing. They call up and say '"I want to buy gold."
That's great. Goldline is in the business of selling gold at a profit. Where they make large profits is by selling numismatic coins, that is, coins with collector value that really has nothing to do with the price of gold. Some collector coins have gone up in value along with the gold, but many others have fallen in value. When the economy sours, there is less money for things like collecting rare coins. I know collectors who paid top dollar for some very scarce gold 'Indian Princess' coins from the 1880s - ,000 for one in particular. The market took the price as high as ,000 in 2006; today it's valued at ,000 and would probably sell closer to k - all while the value of the gold in it has at least doubled since 2006.
When you do not say "I don't want collector coins, I want gold bullion with no additional collector value, and I want to pay as close to 'spot' as I can - what can you do for me?", Goldline will sell you what they can make the most profit from. When you tell them exactly what you want and don't allow yourself to be directed to collector coins, they will sell you bullion. Their price may not be as low as other places, but you won't have any problems buying it and getting it if you use them.
I suspect the 'bad reviews' you've seen are equal parts ignorant customers who didn't do their homework first and were sold high-markup collector coins which are bought back at steep discounts, so that the doubling in price of gold made them a tiny profit or none at all, and Glenn Beck haters who've never done business with the company and are just trying to damage him by damaging his sponsors.
If you insist on gold bullion and stick to bars from Pamp Suisse, Suisse Credit, Engelhard, Johnson-Matthey, or bullion coins like American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, Austrian Philarmonics, Krugerrands, you shouldn't have a problem.
Just shop around. Apmex and Kitco are other trustworthy sellers.

I am trying to start a business selling silver and stainless steel pendants and other jewellery.?
Does anyone know the quickest and best way to find decent suppliers in the Uk. I have trawled the internet for too long! Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Try calling round some wholesalers and see what they can do? 90% of the time they'll be able to advice when their peak time is for getting the products in, if it's best to buy damaged and repair yourself (this may take time, but can save you a lot of money), and the quantity. Just always consider the delivery charges as these can be costly, and also try eBay unless that's where your planning to sell.If I can be any more help just ask, I do run a business that can do research etc, I'll see what discounts I can put your way.
Hope you find a solution.

QUESTION:
would selling 926 sterling silver inspired by designers but not advertsising it as designer legal?
i want to sell the silver jewelry at flea markets. It is pretty, it does not have any insignia and it is silver.-
ANSWER:
Legal would imply that the designer is unable to launch a suit and win.
Now that would require a test case in court to determine whether the designer can take all of your profits and some punitive damages. If the product is a very close copy, it is likely that the designer can and will sue, and win.

How much is silver selling for an ounce at this time?
I have numerous mint silver dollars dated from 1971 .1972 and 1974 I would like to kmow what their worth is by the ounce?-
ANSWER:
The price of silver is only an indication of a component of value beyond the face denomination. You need to see a coin dealer (or more) or perhaps try an online auction like ebay.Besides, if I gave you the market price it will have changed before the information is posted at my source. The markets are an ongoing thing and prices flop all over the place.

QUESTION:
Would you make more money selling silver coins by weight or face value?
Just wondering
I mean book value.
I'm talking coins dated 1964 and earlier-
ANSWER:
Face value as in 'a 1930 dime is worth 10 cents'?By weight is the answer then without a doubt. Considering silver is floating around bucks an ounce right now, that puts a silver dime around .25 for melt value.
Granted you won't get quite that out of it when you go to sell it some middle man, but it at least gives you a good baseline.
edit: Also, make sure you're actually talking about "silver" coins. A 2002 dime is not silver, obviously.

QUESTION:
how to know what a 1899 silver dollars worth before selling it?
i have 2 silver dollar i want to sell but dont want to get taken i just want a fare price-
ANSWER:
If the coins have not been cleaned and are damage free the 1899 Morgan dollar in grade very good is worth about 5.00, in grade very fine (two thirds of the hair lines from top of forehead to ear visible, some wear on eagles breast, the value is 5.00. The coin is worth more as the grades get higher. The above prices are around what a dealer would pay. It is always best to go to more than one dealer. The 1899 is not a rare coin but is a scarce one for the mintage was only 330,000 but a lot have survived that is why the coin is not worth more. Hope this helps.

QUESTION:
How do I go about selling coins that are old? Like silver dollars, quarters, silver certificates.?
Have a friend that is looking to sell his old coins and silver certificates. How do I go about this without getting ripped off?-
ANSWER:
Lot depends on the quality of the coins. If they have a lot of wear then they are most likely more valuable as silver then as Old Coins. You would get the most by selling at a coin show if you want to sell the coins. A dealer will give you an estimate but be aware they want a profit also.
Of course you can sell them on Ebay.

QUESTION:
Do silver coins have more options for selling versus bars?
I am interested in investing in silver. My question is, in the future, when it comes time to sell, which will be easier to unload, coins or bars. Bars would be more convenient to store and sell in one lump but you could sell the coins at a coin shop right, instead or strictly to a precious metal buyer? Any experienced advice is appreciated.-
ANSWER:
Certain Silver coins have more collection value Silver Eagles, Morgan Dollars 90% silver, Peace Dollars 90% silver, Australian Kookaburra and so on will carry a Premium over spot, many junk silver(common non key date coins) however will not increase more than the spot price. Many people collect silver art bars and many have a 2 to 3 dollar over spot collector value some bars even higher, like coins they too have a rarity factor. The bottom line is when collecting silver for a investment any purchases you can get under spot price is a good deal. You will can always sell Silver for its melt value.

QUESTION:
What does it mean to short sell silver?
I've heard that some people suspect that the price of silver may be manipulated by companies like JP Morgan. Would this mean that companies are selling silver that they do not have and can not deliver? If companies are manipulating silver would it be up to the SEC to intervene?-
ANSWER:
Silver is traded in the futures market. Futures are contracts that give the buyer the right to buy a certain amount of silver (in this case) from a potential seller of the future contract at a specific price. In the futures market, market participants can buy and sell silver contracts and other future contracts without actually ever intending to deliver the underlying obligation. People can 'Close Out' their position before actually having to deliver the underlying asset. Therefore, potentially anyone can trade future contracts without ever having a stake in a silver mine.Potential manipulation of the market would be up to the SEC to determine. However, it could be difficult to prosecute depending on the case brought forth from the SEC. Normally, the SEC will have to have credible evidence that investors were unjustly hurt by some type of market manipulation.

QUESTION:
how do you calculate the mass in g of 250 billion atoms of silver. If silver is selling for per ounce .....?
If silver is selling for per ounce how much is it worth? how do oyu arrive at the answer?-
ANSWER:
Well you have to use avagadros number which is 6.022*10^23. This number represents how many atoms are in 1 mol of the element. 1 mol equals the molecular weight in grams. In this case, silver weighs 107.87g per mol. so you devide 250,000,000,000 by 6.022*10^23 to get 4.1528*10^-13. Take this times the molecular weight to get the amount of grams which = 4.47*10^-11 grams of silver. As you can see, this isnt very much silver at all and is actually quite negelegible so it is worth nothing.

My local gamestop is opening early at 9AM, but others have said that theirs is opening at midnight. Walmart is open 24-7, so you should be able to get it at midnight, or atleast I would think. Any information?-
ANSWER:
Normally there wii be some kind of midnight opening for GameStop, and im pretty sure they wont have one. Wallmart will be though, but their will be a lot of Pokemon fans ready to get their copy before anyone else will (this is why you should pre order games) so good luck getting a copy. The games probably wont be in the cabinet until 10 minutes after midnight though

QUESTION:
Did Bart Stupak do the right thing by selling his soul for 30 pieces of silver?
In this case the 30 pieces of silver is 6,000 for new airport equipment in his election district. Which is why shouts of "baby killer" were heard and which were spoken purportedly by left wing fanatics from Chicago who were also heard using the n word and spitting on members of Congress. Do you agree with the loony left wing Chicago style thuggery who continue to pretend to be Conservative Tea Partiers?-
ANSWER:
NONE OF THEM DO. If they don't have the backbone and honesty in them to withstand a little pressure then they need to go. COWARDS all of them....POLITICAL WHORES!
