I get questions all the time regarding which professions a player should take based on class, based on other professions they have or any other countless deviations and permutations of variables. The second most common question on this topic I get is when to drop a profession.

If you are considering droppinga profession and no other toon in your army of alts has that profession, the answer is simple: don't drop it.

A lot of peopleask meabout the validity of dropping professions, especially farming professions since they are the easiest to get back up to speed (maybe5 hours of work tops to level with 100% ground and 310% flying speed). My advice is twofold: If you have the profession on another toon, drop it and get a crafitng one. If, however,you do not have the profession on another toon then you don't drop it. You're better off leveling another character instead of spending time switching professions. More professions means more options and more options means access to diversification and more diversificaiton means a healthy 401k for your main character and his offspring.

If you are considering dropping a crafting profession it is not as simple as the gathering professions. If your profession (this includes mining btw) has a cooldown then it is worth it to keep multiple toons with the same profession on your account. The only crafting professions you should consider dropping when you have more than one toon possessing themwould be leatherworking, engineeringor enchanting since they don't have cooldowns. Obviously there are reasons to keep them if you haverare patterns likespell powerto weapon or lifelike mechanical toadon different toons.

Diversification is the greatest weapon and defense any auctioneer has at their disposal. Without it, the auctioneer is left without options when markets dive and is incapable of playing all aspects of a market (target the source of supply, other professions which interact or are affected, etc). I highly advise leveling new toons instead of dropping and restarting professions.

The main lesson from this is that you shouldn't be so hasty to drop professions and since it takes a long time to achieve max level with a profession it should not be a spur of the moment decision. Take some time, plan ahead and then drop it like it's hawt.

      It all depends on what you have. If your jewelry is in nice shape and at least 14kt or 18kt gold, many estate jewelry buyers will express interest and pay a bit better.

      If the jewelry is damaged, or common pieces you still see in chain stores, you might as well sell it for gold weight...and in that case watch the gold markets for a nice gold spike because gold is paid on closing price.

      Also, look into some private jewelry stores. Sometimes they do consignment for a percentage and you could maximize your dollar out of that.

However, you could place an ad in the online version of Coin World (www.coinworld.com). Banks do not buy gold coins and while your coins are worth a premium as a collectible (around 0 or so depending on just how nice they are), you would be hard pressed to get more than spot out of them from most dealers (the 0 you were correctly quoted by the other poster). You may also want to contact Clark Smith and Steinbergs, both are foreign gold coin sellers and may be able to offer you a better price for your coins. Good luck.

      That 0 per ounce is troy ounces which is 31 grams not 28 grams, that is the way precious metal is wieghed so you probably have closer to 10 ozt

      Your gold is 14 k, spot price is for 24 k so you are talking a price of 5/ozt not 0

      The places which buy your scrap gold only give a percentage of the spot price because they in turn, sell it to recyclers who don't give them the spot price since they have refining costs and also need to turn a profit so you are only going to get at best, about a third to half of what your gold is worth.

      If you want to sell, your best bet would be to sell the items as scrap gold on a site like ebay. There are many bidders who buy scrap gold. Personally, I cannot bear the thought of sellng my gold, I am a gold prospector for the hobby, not the money.

      No, gold is not down, it is quite high right now. However, jewelry is a horrible way of "investing" in gold, as there is too much overhead, so you very well may not be able to sell it for what you bought it for.

      I would list them on a free cycle sight or craigs list. I would give them away, not sell, they sell for all of 99 cents at the pet stores. You might want to see if a local non-chain mom & pop petshop would take them, maybe they'd give you a store credit, but don't expect more than a credit.

      I have to tell you that this downturn is more than likely temporary.

      The government (Fed Reserve) has been printing money (nearly .5 TRILLION this year) and we have no foreign country that is willing to fund our insanity any more.

      So, our dollar is going to tank, the world's economy is tanking and gold will go back up.

      And, if you hold it long enough, gold always goes back up. It may take a decade, but it will.

      Unless the world as we know it ceases to exist, but I wouldn't worry, the Chinese still like gold.
