  14. QUESTION:
How much would an 18K gold bracelet be sold for?
I found an 18K gold bracelet (lucky me :D ) and I want to sell it! (it's really ugly) Thanks so much for your help!
@loves_jewels~ I know I've tried but I can't find an ad on the site called kijiji and withour saying where I live, it's a busy city (not toronto ;) and I can't imagine finding out of the half a million who live there (or maybe more who live there) finding the owner. But your obviously a thoughtful person, so thanks. Thanks everyone for your answers!

    • ANSWER:
The value will be determined by the amount of gold in the bracelet. Take it to a jeweler and they'll weigh it and test it to see if it is actually made of gold. Gold prices are high right now and if it is a fairly heavy bracelet you could get a good amount of cash for it.

      Good Luck!

  15. QUESTION:
What is the sell back value of gold? If you buy gold today at 00.00 an oz, how much can it be sold for?
I heard on CNBC that the gold bought today will only be able to be sold at 60 to 70% at what ever the price is at that time.

    • ANSWER:
Most coins dealers I have seen will buy or sell at the same price (current London fix). They make their money off fees. If you buy for 1000 and pay a per oz fee, then you walk around the block, you could probably sell it back for 00, but would have to pay another per oz fee, so it would cost you per oz for the round trip. This is why it's hard for individuals to make money trading physical gold. It has to go up that much just to cover your costs. Some dealers charge more than . That's for standard bullion coins. Unusual bars could be a lot more.

  23. QUESTION:
If Gordon Brown had not sold off Britain's gold, how much would it be worth today?
When Gordon Brown was Britain's Chancellor he sold off the country's reserves of gold. He thought it was a smart move.
But could someone please tell me how much money we got for the gold he sold off, and how much it would be worth today, if we still had it?

    • ANSWER:
Mr Brown sold 400 tons of gold for an average price of 275 dollars per ounce, pretty much at the bottom of the gold market.

Today, 2009, gold price is ll31.0 dollars per ounce. Gold is sold by the Troy ounce of about 31 grams.

There is 32150 troy ounces in one metric ton, so Gordon sold

400 metric tons times 32150 oz/ton times 275 dollars per oz =3.54 billion dollars.

      Now todays value

      400 metric tons, times 32150 oz/ton times ll31 dollars/oz= l.45 x l0^10 dollars or l4.5 billion dollars.

so if Gordon was selling gold today he could have gotten l0.96 billion dollars more for the gold.

    • ANSWER:
If El Qada had wanted to put a man into Britain to do as much damage as humanly possible they could not have picked a better saboteur than Brown , In his short time in office he has sold of all our service industries to our historical enemies (we now pay three times as much for our energy supplies) sold of our gold reserves for peanuts, emptied our exchequer on brain dead theories that never worked , Handed massive amounts of our money to a bunch of thieving crooks called bankers, Damaged our industrious almost beyond repair , Managed with an insidious organisation the PC brigade and moronic do gooding hangers on, Sort to destroy our culture and Heritage , allowed a stone age religion to set its own laws , encourage mass immigration until we are bursting to the seams so that our support Industries cannot keep up , caused mass unemployment with thousands of our own people out of work and immigrants filling many jobs, And now to cap it all he is selling of the last of our lucrative businesses. Is it true that the gold coins can be sold for exactly the same price at which they were bought if price same?
I am interested in buying gold coins in Jeddah and them selling them (in Jeddah) after some time when the gold prices rise enough. Any answers/comments for this business will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
There is always a bid/ask spread, which is the lowest price a seller will accept and the highest price a buyer will pay.

Your question is vague and incoherent. Of course, if the price (usually based on some index like the NewYork spot price) rises enough you will certainly be able to get more than you paid for them.

  29. QUESTION:
What exactly does "Bought and sold for English gold" refer to?
I know it is to do with the motivations of the Scottish Parliamentarians who voted for the Union of 1707 between England and Scotland.

However, does it refer to blatant, outright straightforwards bribery? Money, lands and office?

Or does it refer to the national compensation for the failed Darien Scheme? England paying money to Scotland to make up for their Darien losses?

    Or to both?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      "a coward few,
      for hireling traitors' wages ...
we're bought and sold for English gold -
such a parcel of rogues in a nation!"
The words of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns, have often been quoted. The assumption was that the English ministry was able, first, to obtain the terms that it wanted, and secondly, to have the terms - the Articles of Union - approved by the Scottish Parliament through handouts of cash. Those involved in negotiating the Union and who supported it in the Edinburgh Parliament were the 'parcel of rogues' referred to by Burns. Those who stood firm and opposed it were seen as patriots. Arising from this, of course, was the implication that the Union itself was not universally popular, nor was it wanted.

Bribes - or repayments of debt?
Much attention has focused on a sum of £20,000 (sterling) - more than £2.5 million today - that the Duke of Queensberry asked for and received from Lord Godolphin in August 1706, two months before the Scottish Parliament was due to consider the Articles. The traditional view was that this money was used to parcel out bribes, an allegation first made in 1714.

But modern research has shown that much of it was used legitimately to pay debts of pensions or salaries owing to government servants, including a number of Scottish nobles. The reason these debts had not been paid before was because the Scottish treasury was nearly bankrupt.

The largest amount, £12,325, was paid to Queensberry himself in respect of his arrears of salary and expenses in recent years as the Queen's Lord High Commissioner. (In fact Queensbury's recorded arrears amounted to a staggering £26,756, though it is not known how such a sum was incurred.) He, of course, was already a firm supporter of union.

However other payments were made to supporters of union that appear not to have been overdue salaries. At least four payments were made to people who were not even members of the Scottish Parliament.

Payments for past service, not future support
It is now believed that payouts from the fund of £20,000 may have directly influenced the votes of no more than four or five members of the Scottish Parliament. Most of the other payments were for services already provided, rather than purchases of future support.

Most historians today, though not all, agree that many Scottish politicians and MPs saw union of some kind as a necessary solution to Scotland's dire economic predicament. On this basis, wholesale bribery was not needed to secure the Union.

  32. QUESTION:
Why was I asked to provide my driver's license when I sold my gold necklace?
I was paid a good price in cash, but I'm concerned about identity theft because I gave private information..

    • ANSWER:
I work for a precious metals refinery and we ask for a driver’s license and sometimes more information for an AML search (Anti- Money Laundering). Certain states ask that gold buyers ask for the driver’s license because it allows the police to back track the jewelry. They can check records for any stolen jewelry.

At Metallix Direct Gold we keep all of that information private and secure. We are a big on making sure our customers are fully comfortable working with us.

Hope this helps you feel more comfortable.

  33. QUESTION:
why in the uk is gold sold in the forwards market but not in the futures market?

    • ANSWER:
Because the market for a gold futures market in the UK is too small. The existing forwards contract is meeting most of the demand. The UK market has developed in a different way and there just isn't the demand for a parallel futures contract.

It is unlikely ever to happen for two reasons. First, most derivatives contracts are traded internationally now and anyone who wants to trade a gold futures contract can trade the US version. Second, because of open interest it is almost impossible to take an established market for a derivatives contract. Trading happens outside the UK & it would take something very significant to shift it elsewhere.

I do not have experience at dealing with the clerks at pawn shops. Has anybody ever sold gold and gotten a good deal?
Do you know a system / trick on how to handle your transaction? Thanks a million!!

    • ANSWER:
The pawn shop will give you a price for what they will pay you for it. Often, they will give you a little more for it if you say you want a loan on it and they think you'll be returning to buy it back. Have you checked into any scrap gold dealers or though about craigslist or ebay? It is possible to have the ring altered for another person(new stone, high school and such).

Sorry, but only one choice is allow.

This is not a trick question. Its purpose is to tell what kind of business person are you.

If your answer was to sell shovels to many people, it means you are practical, patient, and prefer to grow your business slowly. You prefer taking smaller leaps to gain success. You see the trees before the forest. Therefore, security is very important to you. And you would have made a ton of money. This makes you the wiser one.

If your answer was to dig for gold, you are a dreamer, adventurer, and prefer the get-rich-quick approach to making money. Its either win all or lose all. You rather take large leaps to excel your business quickly, which means taking risks. You lack patience and you see the forest before the trees. If you strike it rich, only then will you be the wiser one.

Any and all comments are welcomed.

    • ANSWER:
I don't like your choices, I would open a general store and bar in the gold fields, that way other people dig the gold and give it to me.

are gold and silver coins worth the same sold as coins than as gold and silver by weight?
I inherited some gold and silver coins but they're not in any kind of collection or anything. I want to sell them but I'm wondering whether I should sell as coins or for their weight in their type of metal.

A typical coin dealer will pay 95% of gold value and 60-70% of silver value for common coins. For US coins you can check at your local library for the book in the last link below for estimated retail coin values. I hope that helps.

  49. QUESTION:
Is it true that Appartheid South Africa sold its gold using Uruguayan corporations or the Uruguayan state?
What degree of implication did the Uruguayan state or Uruguayan corporations have in selling dirty South African gold?

    • ANSWER:
"Is it true that Appartheid South Africa sold its gold using Uruguayan corporations or the Uruguayan state?"

The quick answer to your question is "Maybe. But how do you prove such a proxy relationship?"

Although the buying and selling of South African gold Krugerrands (import tax-free in many countries since it has legal, tender value in South Africa) was voluntarily limited by many countries in the 1970s and especially the 1980s-- in response to South Africa's policy of apartheid-- no international body had the power to ban the sale or purchase of South African gold or otherwise legally control the gold market. Your characterization of South African gold being "dirty" must surely originate from that-- now-abolished-- governmental system and the international reaction to it from around the mid 1960s to the early 1990s.

The Krugerrand is bought and sold largely because it is a small (one troy ounce for a full Krugerrand) amount of gold of known purity and weight that can be marketed far more easily than a gold bar.

In international politics, it is not uncommon for nation states to conduct business using proxy states. It happens today with the sale of U.S. technology that is supposed to be limited to only certain nations. And certainly individual and corporate investors and speculators buy and sell gold Krugerrands on a regular basis to provide for both diversity and liquidity within their investment portfolios. That they may sell the gold they purchased to a third party is also not unusual. But does that constitute a sale as an agent or simply a sale as an investor /speculator?
