Where To Sell Diamonds

aDiamonda comes from the Greek word aadamasa which is used to describe something which is invincible. The word eventually became synonymous with diamonds because of their incredible strength and durability and due to their beautiful form; diamonds have been loved and cherished by humans for thousands of years.

India was believed to be the world's top source for diamonds for many centuries, but in today's world, these gorgeous stones are mined in around 25 countries, on every continent but Europe and Antarctica with a majority being from southern and central Africa. A huge amount of these diamond mines are owned by a company called De Beers who formed in 1860 and now are responsible for over 40% of diamonds by value worldwide!

Diamonds are created by crystalisation from solid substances of the earth condensing under extreme temperatures (2000 degrees) and pressure at depths of roughly 90 miles. Volcanic magma is believed to be responsible for transferring the diamonds in rocks from the center of the earth to its surface, where they are mined and used to great value.

Extraordinarily small diamonds are believed to be formed in similar strange conditions or ones such as meteors striking earth's surface with the impact being responsible for such tiny sizes. Diamonds in this form are not seen to be particularly valuable.

In industries, diamonds have three primary roles. They are imbedded in another material, used as cutting tools, and turned into powder or paste for grinding and polishing. Because of its hardness and resistance to abrasion, the diamond is extremely popular in industries and is believed to outweigh its costs due to the stones long working life and fast cutting action.

Diamonds fashion metals, stones, concrete, and eyeglasses as well as gems, and computer chips. Its quick growing popularity now means it is used in blades, critical surgery equipment and specialty windows.

After Diamonds are mined, they cannot be immediately placed into a piece of jewellery without a few adjustments. Firstly the diamonds are cut by special diamond cutting equipment and then they are polished and ready to transform into beautiful diamond jewellery such as elegant diamond engagement rings or necklaces. This type of jewellery is now becoming extremely popular and is beginning to outgrow the rate at which tradition pieces such as gold engagement rings are sold.

In many cultures across the ages the word adiamonda has been related to traits such as invulnerability, magic lightning, protection, healing, and poisoning but in today's world diamonds are used to more value and are seen as a symbol of durability, wealth, status, and peerless quality and beauty.

  2. QUESTION:
Where to sell diamonds and fine gemstones?

    • ANSWER:
It really depends on the Stone(s) that you have. Diamonds will always demand a higher price than most because of marketing, other stones, not nearly as much just because color gemstones are more of a collector thing. Now, depending on where you are located, the best outlet for loose gemstones is the TV Shopping area. Shows like Direct Shopping, ACN, and Gem Shopping specialize and make a fortune off loose gemstones. If you want to do a little research for your own satisfaction, I suggest watching Direct Shopping Network. They constantly do loose gemstone shows and they work off a 40% margin...meaning, whatever sale price you see on the screen, their true cost is 40% of that. This can give you a basic idea on what they can sell for.
Some private jewelry stores will buy loose gemstones. Once you get ideas for what you want on them, ask them if they work on consignment. THat can bring you a fast profit. Also, their is a TV Show in Florida ( Gem Auction TV ), they work consignment and have a following. ( You can find them on a Google Search )

      Hope this helps

Where can i sell geo diamonds?
i have a lot of geo diamonds the are straight from the actual rock. i want to sell them. does anyone know where i can sell them? If so, how much $ do u think i could get from selling it?

    • ANSWER:
I heard there is one company in the world called De Beers that regulates and distributes the planet's diamond supply. They are the ones who actually mine, shape, and polish the stones. Unless you have a good quantity of the rock it would probably cost you more money to dig the diamonds from the blocks and cut and polish them, I would be surprised if you could break even let alone make a profit from doing all that.

I am soo behind in my bills I need money ASAP or my water, and electricity will be shut off..plus my registration on my car is 2 months behind and the list goes on..I really need to take care of all these things but I am not sure where to sell this ring I really need to make payment for all these things by Wednesday..I'm not sure where to sell this and get it's true worth? How and where can i get it appraised?

    • ANSWER:
You should get 2-3 prices from different jewelers if possible. They will often offer more if they know you are shopping around. Pawn shops usually do not offer top dollar. Buyers like to examine rings before buying, so you are unlikely to get a good price on E-bay.
Unfortunately, there is a tremendous mark-up between wholesale and retail prices for diamonds. Expect to get less than half the retail price when selling.

There's an article called "Where Can I Sell My Engagement Ring" (link below) the describes a few specialty sites, how the operate, what they take, etc. I liked the site for "I Do, Now I Don't" (www.idonowidont.com) but they also had www.exboyfriendjewelry.com, www.outofyourlife.com, and some other companies that are more interested in taking apart the jewelry to resell the pieces than in preserving the ring as is.

where can i sell my diamond ring in california?
I have a 2.06 diamond engagement ring that I would like to sell. It comes with IGI certification. Any help would be appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
There are quite a few places that you could sell your ring, the question is whether you would get a reasonable price. The main problem with jewelery that was bought at a retail store is the 300% to 400% markup on diamond jewelery.
I am a retail and manufacturing jeweler, I would recommend putting the goods on consignment, if you are not in a particular hurry to sell. Some jewelers will charge only 20 to 30% commission. Pick a reputable jeweller , one you can trust.

To sell privately exposes you to con-men who troll sites like ebay, newspaper advertising and other sales services for people who have valuables for sale.

You could try a quality Auction house, they would have an established client base, they would advertise for you, and a lot have a policy of having high value items given a discount or rebate on the fees. Also you would gain credibility as a seller as the Auction House would be able to guarantee the item being sold as they have valuing and other means of showing the legitimacy of the items they sell.
And another plus is they are discreet, your name and address need not be made know to the public.

  41. QUESTION:
Where can you sell a diamond ring and get what it is worth?
I have tried the jewelry shops, but they want you to trade it in and spend more. And, I have tired a pawn shop, but they only want to give you a small amount compared to its value.I have no children to pass it on to, so I am trying to clean out my jewelry box! Thanks for your help.

    • ANSWER:
You really can’t. If a jeweler or pawn shop was buying it from you, they’d expect to pay a small enough amount to be able to sell at profit. Otherwise, why bother buying it?

As for selling it to a random person, the buyer would expect to pay less than you think it’s worth because they have no guarantee that they’re really getting what they’re paying for. They have to take your word that it is what you say it is. Jewelry is so specific that it would be hard to find someone else in the world looking for exactly that piece. If I’m buying a piece that isn’t exactly what I want, I expect to pay less than full price.

I would suggest getting several different appraisels so that you know how much you really should get for your ring. Numbers can change drastically based upon the place you are. There's Austin's Fine Jewelry and Pounders Jewelry that have gotten good reviews. But there are several options. The search I used is in the sources for you to help get you a starting point.

  44. QUESTION:
Where to go for a quality engagement ring where conflict diamonds are not sold?
I'm interested in purchasing an engagement ring, and I want to find something of extremely high quality. I'm thinking Tiffany, only because I don't know what else to do. However, I'm deeply concerned about avoiding "conflict diamonds". Any advice?

    • ANSWER:
In the US, it is illegal to trade and sell "conflict" diamonds. So if you are buying your stone from a legitimate jeweler in the US, you don't even have to think about that.
Go to an AGS affiliated independent jeweler in your area. Their standards of service are much higher, and the diamonds they sell go through a much tougher scrutiny then the big national chains, including places like Tiffanys... plus you're not paying a premium for the name....
      Good Luck!

  45. QUESTION:
where to sell a diamond nexus necklace?
I have a BEAUTIFUL diamond nexus necklace that an EX bought me that i would like to sell. I dont know how to go about doing that. I dont know if i cant try to sell it to just anyone?? cause its not a real diamond right? and i've even brought it into a pawn shop and they told me the diamonds werent real...hmmm....anyhow, i know it was purchased off of Diamond Nexus. Anyone have a clue as to how i would get rid of this huge piece?

    check it out

    http://www.diamondnexuslabs.com/necklaces-contessa-p-933.html?cPath=121

    • ANSWER:
I would suggest taking it to a jeweler, a place the focuses on diamonds. They will let you know the value of it and possibly want to buy it from you, and if not, you could ask them the best route to take to get the most $$ out of it.

Don't sell on craigslist or ebay, you will have to price lower than it's worth to sell it. Go to a diamond jeweler store...they will lead in the right direction.

      Good Luck!

I won a Royal Asscher diamond necklace from Brides magazine worth ,850. I was going to be wearing this piece with my wedding dress, but it's looking like I might not be getting married anymore- and instead I need the money to be able to afford to move.

I have never worn it, never taken it out of the box, and never even touched it. I am aware that I could post it on ebay or craigslist, but I probably wouldn't get half of what it's worth on these sites.
