Many people would like to sell silver pieces that they do not use. It may be silver jewelry, silver flatware or table pieces, old silver coins, or even silver bullion. But no matter what you have, the best place to sell silver is at an online dealer.
You can seldom find decent prices locally when you sell silver. Most people think of pawn brokers when they first decide they want to sell silver. However, pawn shops want to quickly double their money, so by the very nature of the business, they cannot offer top dollar if you need to sell silver.
The best way to sell silver is to use an online or mail-in service. The problem is that there are many less than honest dealers in the market, so you have to do a little research to find one with which you are comfortable to use to sell silver. Following are some suggestions on how to find a good online dealer to use when you want to sell silver.
Check the reputation of the dealer when you want to sell silver. Look for complaints filed against them with the Better Business Bureau or the Federal Trade Commission. One company that does a lot of advertising on television has had literally hundreds of complaints lodged against it. (Incidentally, there is one site-- Silver and Gold Exchangethat is not only Better Business Bureau Accredited, but has never had even one complaint filed against them.)
Compare prices at a number of sites before you sell silver to anyone. Make sure that the prices posted are current. Some sites list outdated prices, and you need to know what the current price is before you can sell silver at the best price. (Silver and Gold Exchange uses a real time price list that is constantly updated while the market is open.)
See how much the company will insure your shipment for. Some sites you can use to sell silver will only insure each shipment for a maximum of 0. (Silver and Gold Exchange insures your shipments for up to ,000 each.)
Also find out how the company handles returns if you decide not to sell silver to them. Some will just send you a check and consider the matter closed. Others offer you a limited time to return the check and receive your items back. (Silver and Gold Exchange will email you with an offer first. If you want to go ahead and sell silver to them, they will process your payment promptly. If you decide you do not want to sell silver to them, they will promptly return your items and pay the shipping costs to do so.)
At Silver and Gold Exchange you will also find much helpful information, such as how to tell silver plate from sterling silver and how to protect yourself from unscrupulous dealers. Believing that a well-educated customer is a happy customer, they endeavor to make it a pleasant experience to sell silver to them.
When you add it all up, Silver and Gold Exchange is not just a good place to sell silver, it may well be the best place to sell silver.

QUESTION:
where can I sell silver bars?
I have two 10 oz. .999999 silver bars I was given at graduation a couple years back. I need some cash and I saw these babies were going for around 5 a piece, so now I just need to know where to sell these things? Where do you go to exchange currency, don't they buy preciouses metals?-
ANSWER:
You can try the silversmiths. But don't expect them to pay you the exact silver market price, because they need to make some money and there're some processing fees and commission involved. If you go to a coin or antique dealer, you will get even less, coz these people will eventually sell to a silversmith and they need to make profits as well.

I have a large, sterling silver, not silver plate, tray that I would like to sell. Where would the best place be for me to sell it and get the best price. I also have 2 smaller sterling silver trays that I would like to sell as well.-
ANSWER:
Without a doubt... try the SIlver and Gold Exchange. They pay the most per gram of anyone out there as far as I can tell... and they specialize in silver. They have a live price chart that shows what they pay, they pay for shipping ad insurance, and they contact you with their offer before they pay you. If you don't like it, they send the silver back at their expense. I've dealt with them several times (I am a part time antiques dealer and yardsaler) and they have been great to deal with. Ebay is a pain and the Ebay and Paypal fees are so high now that you make more just selling to the Silver and Gold Exchange. The website is at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com

I have a gold Krugerand and a 100 oz bar of silver that I'm interested in selling. Where should I go to sell precious metals at a fair price?-

The best way to sell precious metals is to sell directly to a refiner. You can find a few companies that will buy your gold online here: http://www.goldintomoney.com You'll get fair market prices and the process is free. They're better than going to a pawn shop because pawn shops are just middle men and your metals will just end up in the same place.

QUESTION:
Is my silverware silver plated or pure silver or not? and if silver plated where or how can i sell it?
I have silverware one set Branded with the words Holmes and Edwards with initials I S with a line between the I and S. and another set with the writings 1881 Rogers Oneida LTD. I want to figure out if they are silver plated, or pure silver, or not at all. and if they are silver plated, where would i sell them, or is it even worth selling. Need help big. If you know anything. Would really appreciate the help. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Holmes & Edwards made both silver and silver plated silverware. Oneida made both silverplated and stainless steel silverware. You can look in silverware collection books to locate the pattern and determine if it was silver, silver plate or stainless. If the silverware tarnishes, then it should be at minimum silver plate. An antique appraiser should be able to appraise your silverware and give you a valuation for insurance purposes (which you should have anyway so that your homeowners will cover the sets). If you need to sell, you can put the sets onto consignment with an antique dealer, place the pieces into a specialist auction, list them on eBay or sell to a pawn shop.

QUESTION:
where can I sell my silver coins?
I have a bunch of non-collectible silver coins and I want to sell them but not to one of the places like cash4gold. How do you find a reputable company to sell silver to?-
ANSWER:
While all the answers so far are good (with the possible exception of Steve Erkel, hopefully), you should definitely make a trip to all of them and see who is giving the best price. Also look for people who make custom jewelry. They may give a slightly higher price than someone who is going to buy it and sell it for a profit to someone else who is hoping to make a profit. Remember that most coins are not the 99.99% silver ones, and the extra non-silver component is not generally paid for.If you can melt them and make silver bullets, maybe there is a market for that...

QUESTION:
Anyone know where I could sell my silver bullion in Los Angeles?
Does anyone know of a place where that offers the best prices to sell my silver in Los Angeles CA, or around the area.-
ANSWER:
You can do a Google search and find a local coin shop in your area. If you're selling just a small amount for pocket cash, then that's probably the way to go.If you're looking to cash-out a large holding, you may want to consider one of the online dealers. Since their overhead is lower, they may be able to offer your more per coin and so on. But unless you're needing the money for some expense, I'd say it would be best to hold on to what you've got. The fundamentals are still strong despite the recent correction in bullion prices.
Don't be swayed by market moves like this. Considering the big picture, gold and silver will be solid investments and good items to have in your possession for a long time to come

QUESTION:
Where do I sell my silver bars?
I want to get the most amount of money and the coin/jewlery dealers are trying to give me a lot less than the market price. How do I get the market price for my silver?-
ANSWER:
Coin dealers are not paying a reasonable price? The ones around here (San Diego) pay about 90% of spot price. Since they usually sell for .00 or so over spot, that isn't that much of a profit margin. I don't think you will do much better unless you are selling to a private party.

QUESTION:
How much is a 100 Troy Ounce Pure 999 Fine Silver Block worth? And where do I sell it?
I recently inherited a 100 Troy Ounce block of Pure 999 Fine Silver from the early 1900s. How much would this be worth? And whats the best way to sell it?
It has 3 stamp lines. First line says 999+ Fine Silver 100 TR. OZ, second line is an engelhard logo, 3rd line is a code, which Im assuming is an identification code.-
ANSWER:
What other information is shown on the bar? Does it say .999 on the bar, or were you told this by someone? Are there groups of numbers on it? Is there a name of a company on it? Is there a hallmark? A hallmark looks like a tiny logo and would be stamped into the silver. This can be important. There are certain trusted producers of bullion bars, trusted because it's very easy to make a bar out of .900 silver (or less) and stamp it .999, and as long as it weighs 100 Troy ounces, the only way to know for sure is have it tested or trust the assayer.Modern 100 ounce ingots sell for a slight premium above silver 'spot market' price. Examples from Capital Metals sold for 25 and 50 four days ago, when the NY closing price was around .20 (20 for the ingot), so you can see that the premium was pretty small. But one from Engelhard, a long-trusted name, sold for 96 two days before, when the closing price was .50 (50). That's about a 12% mark-up. That ingot was dated 1984 as the year it was produced.
If yours has all the correct information on it, dated, produced by a known assayer (there are encyclopedias of hallmarks, and other records that can be researched), and the information authenticates your bar as genuine, its collector value can be substantially higher than the value of the silver.
If it's just a plain bar that's marked .999 with no name on it, you may get right around market price on the day you sell it, but you may get less, because bidders aren't quite sure about it. eBay is the best place, because it is a wide marketplace with very active trading, and it will sell. If you take it to one of the many shops and stores that scream "We pay the most!" in their advertisements, trust me, they don't. They'll pay 10% below market price, or less, and tell you that there's the cost of melting it down, or whatever, and they need to make a profit.
If you have something verifiably old and rare, a specialized auction house may be the best place to go. They'll sell it on consignment, and charge you a commission that can range from 10%-20%, but they target buyers with deep pockets who are looking for rare pieces and will pay top dollar. It may be worth the commission.

QUESTION:
I need cash quick and am considering selling the family silver flatware. Where should i go to sell it quickly?
Antique flatware - not sure of the time period. Tried to find an antique dealer, but they want to deal on consignment and I don't have time to wait.-
ANSWER:
If you cannot wait for the antique dealer, your last resort is the corner pawnshop. But you'll likely receive 10 cents on the dollar for what your flatware is worth.better to put an ad in Craigslist or eBay, you will likely do better than a pawnshop.
( use the pawnshop quote, then list it for about 4-6 times that amount )
But, as with the dealer, you may have to wait a bit.

QUESTION:
Where can you SELL silver at actual spot price? Coin dealers will sell but when the price goes up (say 4xs) ?
coin dealers are willing to sell you Silver Eagles at when spot is but if spot goes to 0 where are you going to sell them? i overheard the coin dealer offering to buy a Eagle at when spot was . So ok they make a profit - but if it goes way up and I want to sell several thousand dollars worth why should they buy it? I mean I am a store owner, I sell a product, I would just sit out the highs...I mean why would i buy your silver coin at spot and tie up my money (say ,000 +) to wait to sell it just to make or so dollars per sale - I mean geez how long would that take? Would I really want to tie up my money like that? I don't know - I'm new at this - I don't get what I am going to do with silver eagles when I feel it time to exit the market?-
ANSWER:
Large dealers are brokers. They turn a profit by trading, just like a stockbroker. They will buy at spot less commission to have inventory to sell at spot plus commission. No inventory, no commission. ALWAYS take possession yourself of your coins and use your own vault, safe deposit box, etc. Years ago a bullion broker charged to store the gold for people and sold it in a ponzi type scheme. People lost everything.
